Reflection about Noli Me Tangere

The novel Noli Me Tangere, written by José Rizal a Filipino nationalist and
revolutionary, holds great significance in understanding his ideas and thoughts as
well as reflecting on the socio-political landscape of the Philippines during his
time. It is a story that revolves around the life of Crisostomo Ibarra, a native
Filipino who returns to his hometown after studying in Europe. Upon his return,
Ibarra’s idealism and desire for positive change clashed with the oppressive
Spanish colonial government and the corrupt society it upholds. Through his pen
and paper, Rizal fought against the Spanish government, exposing the corruption
and abuses of power within the Catholic Church by using his literary prowers,
Rizal was able to convey his advocacy for human rights, equality among all
races, and the importance of constitutional governance.

transformative experience for me as I have gained a deeper understanding of the
historical context and the issues faced by Filipinos during that time, I have also
learned about the bravery and resilience of Rizal in speaking out against the
injustices he witnessed. Furthermore, I have realized that effective critique and
commentary can be made through art and storytelling, rather than solely relying
on violence or armed struggle.
