conditioning and refrigerating to serve humanity and promote
a sustainable world
ASHRAE 52.2 -1999
ASHRAE 52.2 – 1999:
• Describes the test procedure for evaluating the
performance of air cleaning devices as a function of
particle size
• Standard classifies the sizes into ranges
• The ranges are specified in MERV (Minimum Efficiency
Reporting Value 1- 16

• addresses indoor air quality issues and minimum ventilation
rates to reduce the potential for adverse health effects.
• Specifies the standards for design of mechanical & natural
ventilation systems
• Species makeup air inlet and outlet locations relative to
potential sources of contamination

• Source for technical standards for materials, products,
systems and services
• Helps in finding emissivity & solar reflective index
(SRI) values of products

• Has standards for leakage rate of air and visual light

transmittance through an object
CFRs
CFRs – US Code of Federal Regulations is the codification of the
general and permanent rules published in Federal Register

In LEED it is used in defining the wet lands and prime

farm lands

Clean Air Act
