INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
In these present times a lot of students use this kind of application
in their academic activities like, making an essay, answering worded
questions, and even making a report for their school reporting activities
because of the help of this application a lot of students excel in making
essays and reports for their school activities. This kind of application also
refers to an online application that is being used worldwide mostly by
students and teachers in high school and college levels.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an online program that can imitate
human conversations. This are designed to understand the preference
and needs of an individual without the involvement of any human subject.
According to Adiguzel et al. (2023), the Artificial Intelligence (AI) has led to
a new age of innovation and transformation in many fields including
education, including improving productivity, learning outcomes,
personalize instruction, instant feedback and students’ engagements. This
kind of program hold a great promise for boosting students’ academic
performance and allowing educators to provide better instruction.
For an instance, intelligence tutoring system may provide specific
suggestions and supports to students. Based from Caratiquit and

Caratiquit (2023), they said that the utilization of the Artificial Intelligence
or AI applications as an educational aid tool has the potential to impact
students’ motivation to learn in a diverse way. They also mentioned that
Artificial Intelligence(AI) offers a personalize and easily accessible
support, enabling students to seek clarifications, pose inquiries and obtain
guidance about their academic subjects. Artificial Intelligence(AI) has a big
impact to students and teachers’ lives.
There are two major of effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to
students, this are the positive and negative effect. The positive effect of
this is that it guides students though their homework’s, addressing queries
and helping them to answer difficult worded questions. While the negative
effect of this is that, its causes students to lose valuable learning time, it
also disrupts the educational process of students, this also making
students lazy and very dependent to Artificial Intelligence applications in
answering their activities instead of reading the textbook that is given to
them.
According to Bobek et al. (2023), Artificial Intelligence(AI)
applications like ChatGPT has already been publicly available as a large
language- based artificially intelligent chatbots for a few months and was
receiving considerable attention in education, some attention was
negative. They also stated that Artificial Intelligence application like

ChatGPT was banned by some of the largest school districts in the U.S,
because of the concerns over potential academic dishonesty on the part of
the students.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) equipment now shows up to be one of the
sections of the educational experience of many high school students, but
how do the students use them, and what do you expect about them.
Based from Bobek et at., (2023), they also mentioned that they collected
the student’s perception about the AI tool and learning how students are
using them, they also said that they gain a new understanding of students
experiences and how they are able to better assist students, families, and
educators as student’s progress through high school and prepare for
college or for their future careers.
Because of the study that Bobek conducted people started to
understand why most of the students all over the world use Artificial
Intelligence in their studies, this helps students to enhance their ability to
think before answering their activities. AI helps students also to be more
prepared and ready before stepping into college life.
AI application have been used in educational purpose for quite
some time. This kind of application can be categorized into those with
education intentionality that is use to administer a task such as students’
guidance and assistance. These bots or applications act as a learning

companion of students which provides dialogue, collaboration, and
reflection (Gide and Sandu, 2019).
The function of this application is that it receives information from
the students and the students can connect with each other through this
application. By posting question this enables the participations of the
students’ in discussions and they provide a response, while the AI
chatbots offers a comment/ suggestions.
According to Adriani et al. (2023), they said that Artificial
Intelligence (AI) can Identify what methods make it difficult for students to
understand the lessons in progress, so that later AI can get used to finding
new ways to help teachers in students learning so that it will be more
easily understandable. They also mentioned that the lesson material given
by the teachers to the students will be more enthusiastic during the
learning process, because if students doesn’t understand the lesson this
will cause them to be bored. They also said that AI can find the reason
behind students’ lack of understanding in understanding the subject matter
taught by the educators.
By allowing the adaptation and adjustment of educational
experiences to improve students’ academic performance and
comprehension overall, Artificial Intelligence has the potential to bring
significant improvement in the field of education.

According to the study of Perez (2023), despite the benefits of
using the Artificial Intelligence applications, there are also concerns about
its impact on the Higher Educational Institution. With the rise of online
education and the growing availability of educational resources on the
internet, many traditional Universities and colleges are worried about the
future of their students and institutions.
But it was seen that the use of AI applications in education shows a
big improvements of students’ academic performance, because of the help
of this applications students were able to achieve the grades or the result
they wanted to see thanks to this application. This application is being
used to predict students’ performance based on their social background,
past achievements, and their learning environment.
The implementation of Artificial Intelligence based on educational
applications and tools in Senior High School classrooms has the potential
to provide a more engaging and personalized learning experience of
students. The increasing amount of investigations on technology use in
education can provide a better and deeper understanding of the complex
interactions between technology learning and users experience in the
context of Senior High School (Belmonte et al.,2023).
The objective of this study is that the researchers aim to discover or
understand more about the negative and positive effects of AI application

to students. The researchers also aim to understand how AI applications
help students improve in their academics by using this kind of
applications. They also seek to know how AI application in being used in
its different forms.
The usage of Artificial Intelligence applications is good but students
should minimize or lessen the use of this kind of applications in order to
reduce the dishonesty of students towards their teachers, because of the
increasing usage of AI applications a lot of students are seen to be more
dependent in AI applications in answering their activities. Students should
use AI applications as basis in answering their activities in order for them
to understand their lessons or activities.

Conceptual Framework
In figure 1 the input of this study is that it determines if Artificial
Intelligence application is really helpful to students, it also determines the
positive and negative effect of this of Artificial Intelligence application, and
the possible causes of this applications towards students. While the
process the researchers is going to use is an interview for the students
and letting them answer some questioners. Lastly the possible output of
this study is that it is making the homework’s and activities of the students
easier while the other possible effect of this application towards the
students is that it is making them students lazy and dependent on these
applications.

Statement of the problem
The researchers seek to understand the use of the AI applications
in the improvement of students. The study also attempts to determine if
this application is really helpful to students, and if this is helping achieve
the grade they want. This research also wants to know the positive and
negative impact of this application to students who are using it. The study
will be conducted among the grade 11 students. This study specifically
seeks to know:
1. What are the positive effect of using AI applications in improving
the students’ performance?
2. What are the negative effect of using AI applications in the
students’ performance?
3. What are the possible causes of using AI applications?

METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, population and locale of
the study, data collecting instruments, data collecting procedure, and the
treatment of data.
Research Design
The researchers used a qualitative research approach, this study
also utilized the method of descriptive research. According to Sirisilla
(2023), descriptive research design is a powerful tool used by scientists
and researchers to gather information about a particular group or
phenomenon. This type of research provides a detailed and accurate
picture of the characteristics and behaviors of a particular population or
subject, by observing and collecting data on a given topic. The researcher
also mention that descriptive research method helps researchers to gain
deeper meaning and understanding about a specific issues and provides
valuable insights that can inform future studies.
Population and Locale of the Study
The study will be conduct at AMPMNHS- Senior High Extension
Section at Ayosip, Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet. Students in grade 11 at
AMPMNHS- Senior High Extension Section who uses Artificial Intelligence
in their studies will be chosen as the participants. The selection of the

participants is done through the use of purposive random sampling
method.
Data Collecting Instruments
The main data collecting instruments that will be used in this study
is interviews, the interview will be a one-on-one interview with the
participants. Structured interview will be implemented and the researchers
will be using an open ended questions, the research will be conduct at
AMPMNH- Senior High Extension Section. The researchers will be using
purposive sampling in picking their participants, according to Nikolopoulou
(2022) purposive sampling is a technique in which units are selected
because they have the characteristics that the researchers need in their
study, in other words, units are selected “on purpose”.
Data Collecting Procedure
The researchers created a consent letter for the participants
explaining the purpose of their study, in order for the researchers to
conduct a one-on-one interview towards their selected participants. Their
answers will be recorded with the permission on the participants in order
for the researchers to analyze their answers correctly.

Treatment of Data
The data collected were subjected for the analysis in the
development of right and accurate interpretation. Interview and
questionnaires will be used as the method of determining the positive,
negative, and the possible cause of using artificial intelligence in the
academic improvement of grade 11 students. Their answers will be
transcribed carefully before they will be subjected in the cool and warm
analysis in order to determine the themes.

Result and Discussion
This chapter presents the result of the study containing a
description about the main findings of the research, where in the
discussion part discuss and interprets the results.
The positive effect of using Artificial Intelligence in the academic
improvement of grade 11 students
When it comes to the positive effect of A.I many students agrees
that artificial intelligence help them in a positive way like they mention that
it helps them improve their grammars, understanding, and gives them fast
and accurate answers. According to Scispace (2023), studies have shown
that the implementation of A.I components and computational sciences in
the classroom lead to improve student’s achievement, increase
motivation, and a more positive attitude towards learning. Additionally, the
use of AI and machine learning techniques in students’ performance
prediction can help prevent dropouts and assist students in identifying
fields where they excel academically.
Grammar
Based on the thematization of problem number 1 it can be seen
that some of the students agreed that artificial intelligence help them
improve their grammar and the way they construct a sentence, like one of

our participants said “it can improve on how I work on my sentences and
my grammars”. According to Dickson (2023), with the help of the artificial
intelligence you can immediately find out what are the common mistakes
that are in your writing as well as areas where you can improve. By using
an A.I you can identify your most frequent mistakes and work hard
towards fixing them in the future.
Improves Understanding
The learners said that artificial intelligence helps them a lot in
improving their understanding of a certain topic or lesson. According to
one of our participants she said that “it helps you to understand some of
your activities if you’re having a hard time to understand it”. According to
Nguyen (2023), AI help students to learn smarter by providing them with
personalized learning experiences that are tailored to their individual
learning style, as well as access to information and data to help them
better understand the material.

The negative effect of using Artificial Intelligence in the academic
improvement of students
When it comes to the negative effect of using Artificial Intelligence,
students are being dependent to AI in answering their activities and it also
making them lazy causing them to lose interest in answering their
activities on their own. According to Mahdi (2024), one major
disadvantage of AI in education is the dependence on it involving the
educational process. Artificial intelligence can complete difficult, lengthy
assignments almost instantaneously and students may become overly
dependent on technology for tasks where they could be learning and
developing their brains.
A.I Dependence
During the thematization of problem number 2 a lot of the students
are being super dependent to AI in answering their assignment, and
activities. According to Avila (2023), in the academe, A.I has also already
incorporate the use of it when making their school work and assignments,
and the range goes from simple essay, up to research paper. What’s bad
about this is the fact that it becomes a threat in unleashing a student’s full
potential and them having dependence on a machine to do task that a
human should do. For example, one of our participants said that “she is

lacking confident in her answers because she is just depending everything
in A.I” causing her to have a hard time in answering something without the
help of A.I.
Lazy
Some of our participants mentioned that by using A.I this is making
you lazy because mostly A.I is doing all the work and you are just going to
copy paste it. For example, one of our participants said that it increases
the number of students who are becoming lazy. Base from the study of
Musa (2024), AI can indeed be misused in a way that promotes laziness
among students. For instance, AI-powered translation tools can make it
easier for students to cheat on language assignments without actually
learning the language. Additionally, AI-generated essays and code can
tempt students to take shortcuts instead of putting in the effort to complete
their work independently.

The possible cause of using Artificial Intelligence in the academic
improvement of students
When it comes to the possible cause of A.I some of the learners
agrees the it will give them a positive impact like it helps them excel in
their academics and most of them said that it is making them lazy and
dependent to Artificial Intelligence in answering their activities. According
to Scispace (2023), the applications of artificial intelligence have
expanded across various sectors, leading to improved efficiency in
traditional processes. However, the status of intelligent systems in society
raises moral concerns, as their ability to exhibit agency and
anthropomorphic characteristics blurs the line between human-made
objects and intelligent machines.
A.I Dependent
Based on the thematization of problem number 3 other learners
said that Artificial Intelligence won't help them excel in their academics but
instead it is making them super dependent in the help of the artificial
intelligence in answering their activities in school. Like one of the
participants said "in the near future kindi mo alam kung anong gagawin
mo pag gagawa ka nang essay". Based on the study of Nguyen (2023),
the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the realm of education

invites rising concerns among educators about the issue of students using
Ai to write essays, plagiarism and misuse of Ai in students’ school work.
Excel in all academics
I this part of the thematization few of the students agreed that
Artificial Intelligence is helping them achieve and excel in their academics
like for example it is giving them high grades. According to Scispace
(2023), A.I has been found to have a positive impact on senior high
students' academic performance. Studies have shown that the
implementation of AI components and computational sciences in the
classroom leads to improved student achievement, increased motivation,
and a more positive attitude towards learning. Additionally, the use of AI
and machine learning techniques in student performance prediction can
help prevent dropouts and assist students in identifying fields where they
can excel academically.
Summary
The purpose of this study is to know the positive and negative effect of
artificial intelligence and its possible cause. Based on the data gathering
here are the following results that come out:
1. The common positive effect of artificial intelligence in the
academic performance of grade 11 students are, it helps the

learners improve the way they grammatically write sentences,
essays, and research paper.
2. The common negative effect of artificial intelligence to students is
that it is making them very lazy and dependent to it causing them
to have difficulties in answering their paper on their own.
3. The possible cause of AI is that it can sometimes improve their
grammars and the way they construct a sentence. On the other it
is making the student lazy and dependent to A.I

Conclusion and Recommendation
Conclusion
Base on the results of the study here are the following results that come
out
1. The common positive effect of artificial intelligence is it helps the
learners answer their certain activities like essay or research.
2. The common negative effect of artificial intelligence is that it
sometimes lessens the intellectual knowledge and critical thinking
of students.
3. The common possible cause of using artificial intelligence is that it
will give the learners a high grade but at the same time it lessens
their intellectual knowledge.
Recommendation
Based on the conclusion here are the following recommendations:
1. Use AI for basis in answering an activity and avoid copy paste.

2. For students whose using AI avoiding and lessening the usage of AI
if your answering a certain activity.
3. Whenever the teachers give an activity phones should be
confiscated to avoid the usage of AI.
