matter Know about matter and what they Wonder about matter.
Then, at the end of the lesson, return to the chart and
review what students Learned about volcanoes.
ENGAGE (10 mins)
⮚ Let the pupils watch a video clip about volcano. Then ask
the following questions.

b. Do all volcanoes look the same?
c. Do all volcanoes erupt?
d. Are all volcanic eruptions explosives?
EXPLORE (30 mins)
⮚ Activity 1: Volcanic Eruption Demonstration: Create a
model volcano by combining baking soda, vinegar, dish
soap, and food coloring in a plastic bottle placed on a tray.
Observe what happens.
a. What happened as the baking soda reacts with vinegar?
b. What does the activity illustrate?
c. How do volcanoes erupt?

 Activity 2: The Earth Speaks Out. Based on the descriptions

of the given volcanic eruption below each illustration,
sequence the events by writing numbers 1-4 in the box
above it. Then, answer the questions that follow.
1. When does a volcanic eruption begin?
2. What will happen to the magma as a result of high
pressure beneath the surface of the earth?
3. What happens to the magma as it rises and escapes from
the opening created by colliding plates?
4. What happens to magma when it comes out of the
volcano?

Conclusion:
 Summarize their learnings about volcanic eruptions.

Day 2 ENGAGE (10 mins)

Objective:  4 Pics-1 Word:
Differentiate Present four pictures for each concept. Let the pupils
between active identify the connections of pictures to the word.
and inactive
volcano EXPLORE (10 mins)

 Activity 1: Check Me! Integration: History Directions:

Indicate a check mark for the following volcanoes in the
Philippines to identify the active from inactive volcanoes.
Refer to the number of historical records of eruptions.

EXPLAIN (10 mins)

 Discuss the difference between active and inactive volcano
through presentation of chart.
 Ask the following questions:

1. What is the difference between active and inactive

volcano?
2. Based on the number of historical records of eruption, w
which of them has the most number of recorded
eruption?
3. Which do you think is the most dangerous? An active
volcano or the inactive?
ELABORATE (20 mins)
 Fill Me In.
Let the pupils complete the graphic organizer to enhance
understanding about the types of volcanoes.
Conclusion
 Generalize the key concepts the students learned from the
lesson.

Day 3
ENGAGE (10 mins)
Objective:  Teacher prepares 3 jigsaw puzzle and let the groups with 5
Describe the members compete to complete the puzzle. The first group to
effect of finish the puzzle will be the winner.
volcanic  Note: The puzzle is all about the different effects of volcanic
eruption eruptions.

EXPLORE (10 mins)

 Present a news write-up about the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.
Study the article and do the activities that follow.

EXPLAIN (15 MINS)

 Discuss the beneficial and harmful effects of volcanic
eruptions. Use situation analysis.

ELABORATE (15 mins)

 Group Activity:
Materials: baking soda, vinegar, wash tub (group 1)
Coke, Mentos, wash tub (group 2)

 Describe what you have observed from the two simulations.

a. Would the people living in this village be harmed by this
eruption? (Group 1 simulation and Group 2 simulation)
b. Which type of eruption is more harmful?
c. What will happen to the lava from these eruptions once it
cools?

Conclusion
 Generalize the key concepts the students learned from the
lesson.

Day 4 EVALUATION
⮚ Conduct the feedback-driven formative assessment. The
Utilization of
Feedback- pupils will answer the 5-item multiple choice test
driven individually. Then, the Think-Group-Share strategy will
Formative follow with 5 members each group. They will decide what is
Assessment their final set of answers for the assessment. Afterwards,
the teacher will provide the targeted feedback for each
option of the item. Each feedback includes the explanation
of the response of the learner, justification for why it is
correct or incorrect, and the SOLO taxonomy level that
corresponds to the chosen option.
⮚ The groups will share what they learned from the short
activity emphasizing how the feedback may reshape or
correct their understanding of the given concept by
completing the Think-Group-Share Worksheet.

EXTEND
⮚ Summarize all the essential insights or misconceptions
reflected in the learners’ TGS worksheets.
⮚ Collaborative Performance Task: PROFILING A VOLCANO
Choose a volcano (found anywhere else in the world) and
make a profile of it. Include a photo of the volcano, its
location, type, records of eruptions (if any), and short
description of the eruptions and damages it caused
