REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS LESSON

Identify the following network topologies.

RING LINE STAR TREE

PRE-TEST

The Pre-Test will be distributed

and you will be given 5 minutes to
answer the questions.

Instruction:
Identify if the following statement
is referring to a CLIENT or SERVER

Write your answer on the paper.

LESSON OBJECTIVE
LO 1: SET UP USER ACCESS
UNDERSTANDING CLIENT-SERVER

After completing the lesson the learners should be able to:

define Client-Server Network

differentiate Client from Server
cite the importance of securing server for the client
DEFINITION OF TERMS
CLIENT
a small computer with basic hardware
configuration used for simple tasks

SERVER
a high-end computer with advanced
hardware configuration used for storing
huge data files and applications

NETWORK
interconnected computer device that can
exchange data and share resources with
each other
CLIENT-SERVER
denotes a relationship between cooperating
programs in an application, composed of clients
initiating requests for services and servers
providing that function or service
CLIENT - SERVER NETWOR K
a medium through which clients access
resources and services from a central
computer, via either a local area network
(LAN) or a wide-area network (WAN) such
as the Internet

DAEMON - a unique server that is

employed for the sole purpose of awaiting
client requests, at which point the network
connection is initiated until the client
request has been fulfilled.
NETWORK TRAFFIC
NORTH - SOUTH TRAFFIC - client to server
EAST - WEST TRAFFIC - server to server

NETWORK SERVICES

E-mail Printing
File Sharing World Wide Web
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN
CLIENT AND SERVER?
GROUP ACTIVITY (WW - 10PTS)
FORM 6 GROUPS
EACH GROUP WILL BE GIVEN THE FOLLOWING:
LIST OF STATEMENTS
2 SHEETS OF BOND PAPER LABELLED CLIENT
AND SERVER RESPECTIVELY
IDENTIFY WHICH STATEMENT DESCRIBES A CLIENT
and WHICH DESCRIBES A SERVER
PLACE EACH STATEMENT ON ITS RESPECTIVE
SHEETS
YOU WILL BE GIVEN 10 MINUTES TO FINISH THE
ACTIVITY
CLIENT
A small computer with basic
hardware configuration

Simple and less powerful machine

Used for simple tasks

performs based on user standard

Supports a singer user log-in time

SERVER
High-end computer with an advanced
hardware configuration

Powerful expensive machine

Used for storing huge data files and

applications

Delivers high performance

Supports simultaneous, multiple user

log-ins
WHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE OF
CLIENT-SERVER NETWORK?
ADVANTAGES
central management of applications and data

improved security (encryption

simpler to back up valuable information

Network Administrator can easily configure a

backup for the server
QUESTIONS?
PERFORMANCE TASK
(20 PTS)
Make an ACRONYM that will describe
or relevant to client and server

Note: SAME GROUPINGS

SUMMARY
Client-Server refers to a computer network model that uses both client
hardware devices and servers, each with specific functions

Client-server model can be used on the internet as wel as on LAN

Client-Server denotes relationship between cooperating programs in an

application composed of clients initiating requests for services and servers
providing that function or service.

Client is any process that request specific services from the server

Server is a process which provides requested services for the client

SUMMARY
Main advantage of the client-server network is supporting a shared database or
site to be obtained or updated by many computers while keeping only one
control center for the operation

This model improves security, usually with encryption, making sure that data is
only available to authorized people

A client-server also makes it simpler to back up valuable information than if it

was collected across many devices.

A network administrator can easily configure a backup for the server
