LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES

¨NINA SANTOS¨

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays it is essential to learn the English language.

Every day it is used more and more in all areas of
knowledge and human development. It is the language
that unites everyone. Professionals, students,
institutions, companies of all types. are directly or
indirectly affected by it. Therefore its possession is
aobvious need. And so, taking into account the
importance of the English language, has been included in
all resumes. And based on this need, we provide some
simple methods to learn English.

02

EFFECTIVE STUDY TECHNIQUES

Immersion

Immersion is one common way to help boost learning of

all kinds, but it seems to work particularly well for
languages, by situating the student in a context, away
from the classroom, where they are instead embedded
in an environment where the studied language is spoken.

Distributed practice

Instead of dedicating one day a week to your English

studies, better to do half an hour every day: this
technique of spreading your practice over a period of
time, broken into small chunks, is more likely to reap
results. Tests found that the longer you want the
information to remain, the longer the intervals should
be; so when it comes to reviewing large chunks of work,
take your time!

Practice tests

practice tests ask an activity of the brain which is

different from when we are simply absorbing
information – it challenges the brain’s ability to recall
and dig up information previously stored and put it
together creatively.

You can practice by completing units in your courseware,

or set yourself a task of practicing the vocabulary

you’ve learned each week by writing a small text without

consulting any of your materials. 03

Social learning
This is excellent for those wishing to improve their
conversation skills and get a sense of culture. Learning
through making friends and doing can be some of the
best techniques to follow if you have a love for meeting
new people and best pick up a skill by copying and

Challenges in learning English

¨DAYANIS PEÑA¨

INTRODUCTION
International students who do not speak English face
multiple pressures that

can affect their academic performance. The most

important of these

pressures is your level of English proficiency. They find

that their class

instructions are accelerated not only by language and

communication styles,

but also by other cultural and social differences.

12

What are the difficulties and problems in learning

English grammar?
Learning English grammar can be a challenge as there
are many exceptions to

the rules and native English speakers tend to be a bit

lazy when it comes to

following them correctly. Some of the most common

problems include: Verb

tenses: In some languages, tenses don’t even exist. Some

words can have

many meaning.

What are the pronunciation challenges that English

learners

experience?

Listeners will easily misinterpret what the speaker

means if these sounds are

not pronounced correctly. Students are used to

pronouncing sounds in their

native language. As a result, they have difficulty

controlling the muscles and

sound-producing parts, such as the lips, teeth, and

tongue, to pronounce

English correctly.

13

Challenges related to access to quality English

learning resources and how to overcome them

#1 LEARNING METHOD

Among the challenges when learning English, perhaps one

of the most

important is related to the learning method. It is not

about there being an

infallible method, but about avoiding dependence on a

single technique.

Many people refer to learning through a book, a podcast,

among others. The

truth is that in this context you need to master writing,

know how to speak

and listen, with this you will be able to understand

correctly.

#2 SHAME OR FEAR

The fear of failing can also impede good language

development, but being

criticized or embarrassed doesn’t just happen when

speaking English. It is a

part of a process that, no matter how difficult it may

seem, will be

progressively reduced.

14

No one wants to make mistakes or feel disapproval, but

we are not perfect
and you should not seek perfection. Just do your best,
practice and stay

committed to continuing despite mistakes.

Embarrassment is possibly one of the most sobering

challenges when

learning English. You know why? Being afraid of speaking

in public, making

mistakes and trying again a thousand times more, helped

you gradually

overcome the fear.

#3 CONCENTRATION

The main factor to master English, concentration; It is

affected by various

circumstances around us. This usually happens when your

efforts to learn are

diverted and you do not have the best conditions to

study. For example, a

place that is very noisy or full of distractions disrupts

learning.

#4 THINK IN SPANISH

This is a very common mistake and one of the biggest

challenges when 15

learning English. It is because you are used to speaking

in your native
language and structure a different language in the same
way.

Therefore, thinking in Spanish and literally translating

into English is not

recommended. English has a different grammar that,

although there may be

similarities, is another language with its own rules.

#5 AGE

Time should never represent a barrier for you to grow,

learn or discover. It is

true that as children, we have the ability to absorb

information more easily

and more quickly.

However, not learning due to age is just a myth that we

invite you to debunk.

Our experience in learning English tells us that, as you

are older, you are more

aware of situations that you did not perceive before.

#6 MONEY

Among the challenges when learning English, one of the

most mentioned is 16

money. However, recognizing this factor as an expense is

the biggest mistake
you can make. Because?

Learning English represents an absolute investment that

will translate into

more than a financial return for your life. Think, who

speaks English? Is the

majority of your social circle bilingual? Do you want

better job opportunities?

Taking charge of your future requires making changes,

being willing to fail,

and, most importantly, learning and evolving.

#7 TIME

In previous times, the tools to learn English were not

functional or effective

regarding work schedules. Today the story is different.

While it is true that you must dedicate time to studying

the language, be

consistent and organize your agenda, you also have

experts.

17

CONCLUSION
English learning could be challenging for many EL
learners. Based on the

results, most students admit Having a hard time learning

English but can

actually use the language well. These difficulties may be

Associated with the

complex system of English language per se. Moreover,

efficiency in language

learning Is attributed not just through theoretical

inputs from school but most

importantly, through constant application Outside the

school.
