TEACHING
Ask class, “Do you know what a kingdom is?”
(get responses)
A kingdom is a place where a king is the ruler.
(put on crown)
It is where he is the leader and people obey his laws and authority.
(raise scepter)
If a good king is the ruler, people will be happy, and have a good life. All throughout history we have
had examples of good and bad kings who have ruled on earth.
But today we are going to learn about two kingdoms. These kingdoms are actually more real than any
other kingdom in history. They are kingdoms in the spirit world. They can't always be seen with our
eyeballs, but they can be seen with the eyes of our heart.
(Place glasses over child heart bucket)
Everything that happens here on earth, happens because of one of these two kingdoms. They are:

The Kingdom of Heaven

(encourage children to clap and cheer)

The kingdom of darkness

(encourage children to boo and hiss)

In the Kingdom of Heaven, God rules and reigns.

(have Jesus figure enter and sit on throne)
In the kingdom of darkness, Satan is the ruler.
(have thief character enter and sit on “darkness” throne)

WHAT
Introduction
IS A KINGDOM?

(...continued from prior page)

How did these kingdoms come about? Well, even before time began, Heaven already existed. That's
hard to imagine, but it is true! Heaven is a real place. It is so amazing and wonderful, and almost
impossible to describe.

But the apostle John had a vision (which is like being shown a video by God) of Heaven and wrote down
what he saw. It is recorded in the Bible, in the Book of Revelation. He said:

! It is like a city. (Revelation 21:10-27)

! Where the glory and the very presence of God was present. (Revelation 21:11)
! There is no night because the Lord Himself is the light. (Revelation 22:5)
(put on sunglasses)
! John heard great worship around the throne of God and saw a sea that looked like crystal glass.
(place table cloth in front of throne)
! The worship and rejoicing was so loud that it sounded like a great waterfall and thunder. (Rev
19:6)
! There were no more tears, no more death, or crying and pain. (Revelation 21:4)

What an amazing, exciting, joyful, and happy place!! And this is only a tiny peek of what will last
forever. Heaven is truly a wonderful place!

TEACHING
A Worshiping Heaven:
A long, long, time ago in this wonderful place called Heaven,
(have Jesus come and sit on throne)
thousands of angels and other creatures were worshiping God at His throne.
(have angels gather around throne and worship)
Now Lucifer,
(Lucifer figure enters)
was the most beautiful angel God created. It was his job to lead worship.
(Lucifer leads other angels in front of throne)
A War begins in Heaven:
What an amazing sight and sound that must have been! (Revelation 19:6).
There was such glory and celebration going on in Heaven, but then something very bad happened. Pride
came into Lucifer. He became jealous of God getting all the praise and worship. He felt he should be
worshiped.
(Lucifer shows jealousy, and points to himself).
Lucifer decided to take God's place on the throne. He gathered one third of all the angels,
(Lucifer gathers several angels together and hands them swords)
and led them into battle against God. What do you think the battle was like?
(God's angels surround throne and raise swords against Lucifer's army. Jesus directs them to
fight and the battle begins)
Lucifer and his angels were beaten badly. They were cast out of Heaven, and fled to earth
(angels flee Heavenly throne)
where they roam to this day, and are now known as demons. Lucifer's name was changed to Satan.
(Lucifer leaves, and changes into thief costume)
A place was created for Satan and his demons. It is called Hell.
(Satan figure stands next to dark throne)

TEACHING
Let's take a closer look at these two kingdoms.
(look through telescope, or binoculars, and scan the room)
The Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of Darkness are two very different places, and are just the opposite of
each other.

First of all, in the Kingdom of Heaven, we find the very presence of God.
(Jesus figure comes and sits on the throne)
What else would we find in Heaven? God's glory!
(show “GLORY” sign)
God's glory is His greatness, brilliance, magnificence, and power which fills all of Heaven. There is no darkness
.
In the Kingdom of Darkness we find Satan, also known as the “Prince of Darkness”. There is no light, no
greatness, no magnificence, no glory.
(Satan figure comes slinking in hiding behind his cape and sits on throne)

Let’s look at some more “opposites” found in these Kingdoms.

(for the rest of the “objects” in this lesson place them in front of the appropriate throne after you
have shown them to the children)

Because God is love, love rules.

(take plush heart out of heart bucket, place crown on heart)
Satan's Kingdom is full of hate and jealousy.
(Show “HATE and “JEALOUSY” signs)
(Continued on next page...)

There is joy in Heaven!
(throw party confetti in air)
Everyone is rejoicing, and it's like a big party every time someone asks Jesus into
their hearts as Lord and Savior.
(show noise makers and put party hat on child)
There is anger in the kingdom of darkness.
(show “ANGER “ sign)
In God's presence, there is peace, and comfort, there are no tears in Heaven.
(wrap small blanket around child)
The spirit of fear and worry comes from Satan's kingdom.
(show “creepy critter”)
In God's Kingdom there is no sickness, no disease, and no pain. Your Heavenly Father wants you well.
(show medical instrument)
Sickness and disease comes from the devil. Satan wants you sick.
(show “creepy critters”)
In Heaven there is only righteousness, everything is pure, godly, and holy.
(take white robe and put on child)
Things that are nasty, dirty and not pure are only found in Satan's kingdom.
(show bucket of mud)
Everything about God is good!
(write “God” on board and then add an “O” to spell “GOOD”)
In the kingdom of darkness, evil rules.
(write “EVIL” on board, and add a “D” to spell “DEVIL” )
Heaven is full of riches. There is more than enough for everyone
(take cup and fill with riches from treasure chest and give to a volunteer)
Where the Devil rules there is poverty, lack, and hunger.
(show an empty cup)
The Kingdom of Heaven means life, freedom, and liberty (show signs). People are not slaves of sin. They can be
all that God wants them to be.
In the kingdom of darkness there are slaves and prisoners of sin. People are bound by drugs, bad habits and
other harmful things.
(wrap chain around volunteer)
God has promised safety and protection
(show umbrella)
In Satan's kingdom there is danger
(show “DANGER” sign)
The Kingdom of God is full of truth about who you are, and how God loves you and is pleased with you.
(show “TRUTH” sign)
The Bible says Satan is the “father of all lies” -that “you are stupid”, “a loser”, and “God doesn't love you”.
(show “LIES” sign)
In the Kingdom of Heaven, you can be a child of God, a part of His family, where Papa God is your Father.
(show “FAMILY” sign)
In the kingdom of darkness, people are lost, separated from God because of sin. They are like orphans with no
family or father.

We can decide and choose which kingdom we want to be a part of. It's either the Kingdom of Heaven, or
the Kingdom of Darkness. Sin separates us from God. God wants us to enter His Kingdom through receiving
forgiveness of our sin by accepting Jesus into our hearts. When Jesus died on the cross
(Show cross)
He made a way for us to come to the Father (John 14:6).
(Lay cross in front of throne)
Note: You may want to refer to “Invitation” lesson 2, page 5, and lead in a prayer of salvation. Lead class in
a prayer of thanks to the Father for wanting to share His Kingdom of love and goodness with us!

Have children lie, or sit quietly and close their eyes (far enough from one another so they cannot touch
each other). Read Matthew 6:13b. Have them ask the Father to show them what His Kingdom looks,
sounds and feels like. Continue to ask what are they seeing, what is God showing them. After awhile
interview children as to what they saw, heard or felt.

“KID’S CARRYING THE KINGDOM”
WHAT
Heaven to Home
WE LEARNED TODAY

Dear Parents:
Our Memory Verse this week:
“For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever…”
Matthew 6:13b
Today we discovered:
! That there are 2 kingdoms: Kingdom of Heaven, and the kingdom of darkness
! A kingdom is where a king rules and reigns
! A kingdom reflects the heart and character of the king
! God's Kingdom is greater than the kingdom of darkness
! God has invited us to be part of His Kingdom

Parents Points to Ponder:

This introductory lesson is foundational, and sets the stage for the journey our children are invited to experience.
The revelation of the two kingdoms brings an understanding of good and evil: God’s Kingdom is good and
wonderful because God is good and wonderful, and the Kingdom of Darkness is evil because the devil is evil.
This lesson also presents the truth that God loves them, and they can choose to belong to His Kingdom through
the cross of Christ.

Ask Your Child:

What the 2 kingdoms are and who are the rulers in each kingdom. Who’s kingdom is greater? Ask
them to describe what God’s Kingdom is like. Let them share what their thoughts are about God’s
Kingdom.

Soaking Time:
Have a time where they can “soak” and ask God to
