Subject: Role of media in promoting National Integration

Sir/Madam,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to share my views on the significant role played by
media in promoting national integration. As a student, I recently worked on a school project that emphasized the
potential of media to shape the perceptions of people towards the diverse cultures and traditions of our country.

In this digital era, media has the power to connect people from different parts of the nation and encourage a sense of
national unity. The responsible use of media can contribute to the creation of a shared identity and foster an
environment of mutual respect and understanding.

It is crucial for media organisations to be impartial and avoid sensationalising news to build trust and create a
harmonious society.

I hope that media continues to play a positive role in promoting national integration in our country.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Anita/Anil (A student)

Sub.: Spreading of slum areas in the city
Sir,
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw your attention to the
increasing number of slums in the city which is creating inconvenience to not only the slum
dwellers but also to the neighbouring colonies.
Recently, an open area in the RR Nagar was converted to a slum within three months. Also, one
can find a slum in every locality of the city currently. Slums are spreading more than the planned
township and this is disfiguring the city's face. Slum areas are a home to several unfavourable
dwelling conditions such as crowded living, lack of potable water, insanitary conditions and poor
power supply. Moreover, these slum areas give rise to contaminated diseases that spread
around causing great deal of discomfort. I request you to kindly take some strict actions against
this and provide a lucrative solution for the citizens.
Thank you
Yours faithfully

Analytical Paragraphs
(1) Global weather has been undergoing a drastic change and global warming is responsible
for creating arctic melt downs. Use the given pie-chart to write a paragraph analysing the
reasons for climate change in about 100-120 words.

Ans. Global weather has been undergoing a drastic change and global warming is responsible
for creating arctic melt downs. The pie-chart represents the various sectors responsible for
climate change. According to the chart, energy and electricity generation accounts for the
largest percentage in its contribution in global warming, which is 33%. This can be attributed
to the burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity, which releases carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The transportation sector comes in second with 27%,
which includes emissions from vehicles such as cars, trucks, and airplanes. The industry
sector follows closely at 19%, which involves manufacturing processes and the use of energy
for heating and cooling. Agriculture, commercial and residential sectors contribute 7%, 7%,
and 6% respectively. The remaining 1% can be attributed to other miscellaneous activities.
Overall, the chart highlights the need for urgent measures to be taken by governments and
individuals to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change.

(2) Write an analytical paragraph based on the double bar graph showing the percentage
growth in different sectors in a developing country from the year 2012 to 2022.

Ans. - The bar graph displays the percentage growth in six sectors, namely Education, Private
Sector, Government Sector, Medical, Transportation, and Agriculture in a developing country
from 2012 to 2022. The data shows a concerning decline of nearly 25% in the Education
sector from 2012 to 2022. In contrast, the Private Sector has seen a slight increase from 20%
to 22% in 2022. The Government Sector, however, has remained stable at 20% in both years.
The Medical and Transportation sectors have demonstrated considerable growth in 2022. Of
these two sectors, the Transportation sector has improved more than the Medical sector,
which has just doubled from 2012. The Agriculture sector has also shown a marginal decline
from 12% in 2012 to 10% in 2022. Overall, while the Government, Medical, and Transportation
sectors have displayed improvements, much more work needs to be done in the Education,
Private, and Agriculture sectors.
(3) The given pie-chart shows how water is consumed in households in a metropolitan city in
India. Study the information carefully and write a paragraph in about 100-120 words drawing a
comparative analysis of water consumption. Emphasize on wasteful water consumption and
suggest possible ways to save water.

The pie chart illustrates the water consumption pattern in households of a metropolitan city in
India. It is observed that toilets and clothes washing together account for almost half of the
water consumed in households, with toilet usage being the highest at 26%. Showers and
faucets are responsible for 16% and 17% respectively. Leaks are also a significant contributor
to wastage, accounting for 14%. Dish washing and bathing together constitute only 3% of the
total water usage.
The high consumption of water in toilets and clothes washing indicates that these areas offer
a great scope for water conservation. Simple measures like using a low-flow toilet or reducing
toilet flushes, using water-efficient washing machines, and repairing leakages could help in
saving a significant amount of water. The use of aerators in faucets and showers, turning off
the tap while brushing teeth or shaving, and fixing leaks could also help in reducing water
wastage.
(4) The chart below gives the percentage of social media users by age in India in 2020. Write a
paragraph analysing the given information drawing comparisons among age groups in 100-
120 words.
Internet Activities by Age Group

The chart provides an insight into the online activities of social media users in India, classified
by age group. The highest percentage of all age groups use social media to get news. The
percentage of teenagers engaging in online games is the highest among all age groups, with
81%. Searching for people and profiles online is not that popular among any of the age groups,
but users in their 20s lead this cohort as networking seems to be important to them. Users in
their teens and above are more focused on buying products online, with the highest
percentage among them being 73%. It is interesting to note that the percentage of users
engaged in product research increases with age, with the highest percentage being among
those in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. However, the percentage of users engaged in downloading
activities decreases with age.
In conclusion, the chart indicates that social media is an important platform for getting news
and staying connected with people for all age groups in India. Online gaming is most popular
among teenagers, while product research and online buying are more prevalent among older
age groups.
(5) A group of enterprising young adults conducted a survey on reopening of educational
institutions in the National Capital.

A group of enterprising young adults conducted a survey on reopening of educational

institution in the national Capital. The pie-chart shows what their opinions about reopening of
the educational institutes are. As it is clear from the pie-chart, a little over one-fourth (28%) of
the people favour to reopen the school but after getting vaccination, while approximately one
fourth (24%) are of the opinion of reopening of the schools only for exams and practical work.
As much as 20% wants to keep it postponed till the active corona cases gets reduces to 0.3%.
There are 15% people who are in the favour of reopening the school for classes 9th to 12th as
the students need to prepare for board exams. A very less number of responses i.e., only 8%
people have advocated of reopening the schools for all classes while as little as 5% people
have responded in 'can't say'.
Thus, it can be concluded that, majority of people are in the favour of reopening of the school
but after taking precautionary measures. It clearly shows that people don't want studies to be
hampered anymore.
