Review

Last meeting, we discussed about the

Rocks. Can anyone tell me what the
difference between Minerals and Rocks
are? Yes, _________

Minerals are the naturally occurring

chemical compound usually of
crystalline form and not produced by
life processes while Rock is an
aggregation of minerals.

Very Good! What are the three types of

Rock? Yes, ______________

The three types of rocks are Igneous

rocks, sedimentary rocks and
metamorphic rocks.

Excellent! It seems that you really

understand our previous lesson.

B. LESSON PROPER
Motivation

I am holding something, what is this? Ma’am that is a model volcano.

That’s right! Do you like to see this

volcano erupts? Yes, Ma’am!

May I ask somebody to pour a half-cup

vinegar at the opening of a volcano?
Yes, _________ (Student pouring vinegar at the opening
part of the volcano)

Class, observe what happens. (Students observing the model volcano)

What do you observe? Yes,

___________ Iobserved that as the vinegar pour inside
the model volcano, the liquid inside it, flow
outside.

That’s correct! What do you think is the

reason behind that? Ma’am I think the vinegar is reacted with
the baking soda that is inside the model
volcano.

Good! The baking soda serves as the

magma while the vinegar serves as the
energy that pushes the magma to go
outside and become lava. But for you to
fully understand the real reason behind
that eruption let’s have an activity.
Activity

Class look under your armchair. (Student look under their armchair)

It has candy, Am I right? Yes Ma’am!

The color of candy under your armchair

is the group assigned to you. Each
group will form a circle during the
activity, the red and yellow group
occupies the front while the blue group
will occupy the back. Is that clear? Yes, it is!

That’s good!

Directions: Now class, I have here an

envelope, Inside it are task assigned to
each group. You may use your book as
your references. Choose one
representative to pick your envelope,
and one representative will present
your work. I will give you 10 minutes to
finish your activity. Once your group is
done make a yell and post your output
on the board. Do you understand? Yes, we do!

Go now to your respective group! ( Students go to their respective group)

Your time starts now!

GROUP 1 GROUP 1
1. Volcano is a vent at the earth’s crust
through which lava, rock fragments, hot
vapor and gases are ejected.
2. Because of the density and pressure
3. Stratovolcano/Composite shape is a
tall, steep and symmetrical

(Post Output of Stratovolcano/Composite

Volcano)

GROUP 2 GROUP 2
1. Volcano is a vent at the earth’s
crust through which lava, rock
fragments, hot vapor and gases are
ejected.
2. Because of the density and
pressure
3. Cinder Cone Volcano shape is
symmetrical cone

(Post Illustration of the Cinder Cone

Volcano)
GROUP 3
GROUP 3
1. Volcano is a vent at the earth’s
crust through which lava, rock
fragments, hot vapor and gases are
ejected.
2. Because of the density and
pressure
3. Shield Volcano shape is flatter
surface , tall and broad

(Post Illustration of Shield Volcano)

Analysis

Let’s proceed to the group presentation.

May I call on the representative of
group 1 to present your work?

Very good, Group 1! Give them, Good (Group 1 will present their work)
Job clap!

Let’s hear the group 2, please present (Students will clap)

your work.

That’s right! Give them, Dub clap! (Group 2 will present their work)

Lastly, Group 3 please presents your (Students will clap)

work.

Very Good! Give them, AlingDionisia (Group 3 will present their work)

Abstraction

Okay class, based on the activity that we

have conducted, who can define
volcano? Yes________?

Volcano is a vent at the earth’s crust

through which lava, rock fragments, hot
vapor and gases are ejected.
Precisely! Volcano is a hill or a
mountain formed by the extrusion of a
lava or rock fragments from a mass of
magma below. Is that clear?

Yes, it is.
Good! Who can explain whyEarth’s
interior is hot? Anyone?
Yes___________?

Because it is made up of solid iron and

nickel
Very Good! The heat from when the
planet formed and the heat from the
decay of radioactive elements.

What is found beneath the volcano?

Yes________?

Hot liquid rocks are found beneath the

That’s correct! What do you call to the earth’s surface.
hot liquid that is beneath the Earth’s
surface? Yes_________?

The hot liquid called Magma.

That’s right! What happens when
magma reaches the surface?
Yes________?

It becomes a lava
Very good! There are three types of
volcano, can you give one?
Yes__________?

Cinder Cone Volcano

Nice one! It is known as one of the
common type of volcano. Will you
please describe it? Yes, ________?

It is a type of volcano that doesn’t have

horizontal layers instead it is a steep
conical hill of tephra (volcanic debris) that
accumulates around.
Very Good! What is the other type of
volcano? Yes _________?

Stratovolcano or Composite Volcano

What is the Stratovolcano or Composite
Volcano? Yes _______?

It is a type of conical volcano built up by

many layers of hardened lava, tephra,
Exactly! Stratovolcano is also known as pumice and ash.
Composite volcano. It is tall and
symmetrical and with steep sides.
What about the third type of volcano?
Yes________?

Shield Volcano
Good! Can you say something about it?
Yes _______?

It is a type of volcano built entirely or

Excellent! Shield Volcano is a type of mostly from fluid lava vents.
volcanoes that are very big in size.

It seems that you fully understand our

lesson for today, in that case let’s put it
into application.
Application

Base on the previous group that we

have, May you please form a circle

Directions: Each Group is going to act

as someday to educate the people of
specific area in our country about the
importance of knowing the
precautionary measures before,
during and aftervolcanic eruption.

I have here a task slip; inside this is the

given task to each group. Please
choose one representative to get the
slip here in front. I will give you 10
minutes to do your task.

You will be graded using this criteria:

You may start now!

GROUP 1 (Student will finish the task)

Imagine your group is a volunteer from

“Bicol Volunteer Emergency Response
group”, your task is to educate the
people of your town about the
importance of knowing precautionary
measure before volcanic eruption. (Students’ answer may vary)

GROUP 2

Imagine your group is a member of

PHILVOCS (Philippine Institute
Volcanology and Seismology), your
task is to educate the people of
Batangas. Inform them about the
importance of precautionary measures (Students’ answer may vary)
during volcanic eruption.

GROUP 3

Imagine your group is health care

providers and you will conduct a
medical mission. Your task is to
educate the people of Bataan about the
precautionary measure aftervolcanic
eruption. (Students’ answer may vary)
Okay, times up! Let us proceed with the
group presentation!

Group 1 you may now present your

work

Perfect!Give them 5 claps! (Group 1 will present their work)

(Students will clap)

Next, Group 2 please present your work

Very Nice Explanation!Give them 5 (Group 2 will present their work)

claps!
(Students will clap)

Last group, Group 3 please present

your work

Very Good!Give them 5 claps! (Group 3 will present their work)

Class, job well done. Give yourselves a (Students will clap)

round of applause.
