Lea Salonga has had a career spanning four decades and is without a doubt one of the best
performers the nation has ever produced. She has played on some of the largest venues in the
world and was even given a Tony Award back in 1989 for her role in Miss Saigon
Lea salonga is Kapampangan from his father side who hails from Mitla, Porac , Feliciano
Genuino Salonga, a naval rear admiral and shipping company owner.
Prior to relocating to Manila, she also attended the Montessori School in Angeles City. Before
moving back to Manila, she spent the first six years of her youth in Angeles City.
Salonga attended classes at the neighborhood Operation Brother Montessori Center (OBMC)
campus while residing in Angeles City. Later, she changed campuses to complete her
secondary school, graduating as the class valedictorian in 1988 from the campus in Greenhills,
San Juan, Metro Manila. Later, she enrolled in a program run by the University of the
Philippines College of Music to teach musically gifted kids stage dance and music.
When she was seven years old, Salonga made her professional theatrical debut in The King
and I. After that, she had a consistent childhood theater career, performing in shows like Annie
and The Sound of Music before turning ten and releasing her debut solo album, Small Voice
(1981).
The big one that really changed Lea’s Salonga’s life, however, was Miss Saigon in 1989.
The show really changed not just the trajectory of her career, but the path for the rest of her
life.
This was followed by the recording of the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin in
1992 and Mulan in 1995-97 (its release was in 1998). Afterward, happened the biggest
highlight of her career in 90s is playing Eponine in Les Miserables on Broadway. Which she
would later go back to in 2006 as Fantine.
Lea most recently appeared in the Netflix animated series Centaurworld and the critically
acclaimed Sony musical-drama Yellow Rose. Lea also released her track "Dream Again" in
August, with all proceeds going to organizations helping with COVID-19 relief globally, including
The Actor's Fund. Lea Salonga: Live with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from the Sydney
Opera House will appear in November 2020 as part of PBS's Great Performances series.
Over the course of her 40-year career, Lea has performed for six Philippine presidents (from
Ferdinand Marcos to Benigno S. Aquino III), three American presidents (George H. W. Bush,
Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush), Diana, Princess of Wales, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
II.
