during the time are described throughout the report.
The experience I received working at Reliance, Rubber & Plastic Industries L.L.C. as an E-

Company Structure
The above diagram shows the organisation structure of the company. Due to the small nature
of the company, the workforce tasks are quite flexible amongst people of the various
departments.
Geographic distribution
Reliance Rubber & Plastic Industries main office is situated at Al Muharraq street, Umm al
Quwain. The production and the outbound deliveries of rubber and plastic profiles takes place
in the various industrial warehouses around the office and are distributed locally and to
countries such as Saudi Arabia, India, China, Oman, Qatar, Netherlands, United Kingdom,
United States of America and South Africa.
The Environment
The organisation mainly operates in the market for Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is the
third largest selling plastic commodity after polyethylene & polypropylene. It is beneficial
over other materials owing to its chemical resistance, durability, low cost, recyclability, and
others; thus, it can replace wood, metal, concrete, and clay in different applications. Asia
Pacific is the largest market for PVC market accounting for more than 50% of the global
PVC market. The Asia Pacific region is expected to show a good growth rate over a
forecasted period due to high growth potential of building and construction industry. China
represents the largest market for PVC in the Asia Pacific region. Europe is the second largest
market for PVC, followed by North America.
The competitors of Reliance Rubber & Plastic Industries include Sika, Canzac, Hengshui
Jintong Rubber and Fosroc to name a few. Due to being a market with a lot of opportunities,
the firms have a tough competition with one another, especially for the Asia Pacific market.
The PVC Waterstop market growth is predicted at a rapid rate in the coming years, driven by
industries’ improved interest, availability of technology, and all-inclusive participation of
industry stakeholders. The increasingly high number of companies in the market adapting to
the online environment through developments in technology has caused Reliance Industries
to consider having an increase in an online presence.
The particular constraints faced by the market for PVC are the high toxicity by containing
lead and metal stabilizers in the material while having low degradability. Reliance Industries
manufactures the materials with the aim of minimizing the hazardous materials and health
risks while having high fire-resistant qualities.
The Functions
The various functional areas I have served in include:
E-Commerce: Due to being a traditional bricks and mortar organisation, Reliance Industries
did not particularly have an E-Commerce department to oversee the online business
operations. However, my marketing knowledge allowed me to help in building an online
platform for the company.
Marketing Department: an important department overseen by Mr. Joseph for the growth of
the business lifecycle. Utilizing the information gained during marketing modules, I used it to
communicate with customers and suppliers and think about ways to promote the business.
Administration Department: This department is essential for the organising and directing the
future of the organisation. I managed the finalising of orders, organising of folders to their
respected categories and some book keeping in this department.
Manufacturing Department: The department essential for the procurement of the products. A
very important and highly integral part of a business such as Reliance Industries. By
understanding the work-flow process of the company and managing some of the
manufacturing operations at the company, I was able to understand the operations better.
The Department
Being served under various departments, I had the exposure to many different skills and
guidance from the supervisors of each respected departments.
E-Commerce: The main objective of E-Commerce is to facilitate the buying and selling of
goods, services or data online. I was tasked with creating and managing the online presence
of the company on Alibaba and using my skills that I have learnt. I was supervised by the
Managing Director of the company in this department, Mr. Rehan.
Marketing Department: This department controls the sales and marketing activities of the
company. My function in this department involved working with Mr. Joseph in promoting the
brand and communicating with clients and potential customers.
Administration Department: The technical support, Human Resource Management, budgeting
and planning to organise the business’s daily operations. I was supervised by Mr. Imran and
Janet in the role of managing the customers, arranging the documents and researching the
details for various product profiles.
Manufacturing Department: The conversion of raw materials into finished PVC profiles to be
shipped to customers. Being supervised by Mr. Zeeshan, I learnt about the entire process and
monitored the functions of the manufacturing machines to ensure the right batch was being
procured.
Communication/Informational Technology
The formal communication through the department mainly takes place by the use of emails.
Every supervisor, manager and employee would report using emails. Due to being a
relatively small business with less numerous workforce, it is much more effective in
communicating directly with the person in-charge of each department without much
complications and a relatively simple organisational structure.
The organization utilises work telephones to communicate the functions for daily operations.
Every person in charge has a telephone placed on their desk which can be used to inquire or
inform another employee about information regarding the company’s daily operations. Every
desk including the intern’s is provided with a PC for work where no information about work
is allowed to be shared outside organization.
Informal communication between staffs happens during lunch and outside working hours.
The boss is expected to keep a professional pace with their staff during work, however off
working hours, they are free to express themselves. Every person in the company is given the
opportunity to voice out and share ideas. Every work done is recognised and appreciated.
Nature Of Work
My work in e-commerce department is to manage the e-commerce platform of Reliance
Rubber & Plastic Industries L.L.C. As stated before, Reliance Industries did not have an E-
Commerce department to oversee the online business operations. By using my knowledge of
e-business, I helped to create an online platform for the company to conduct online
transactions and increase the possibility of customers inquiring about business on Alibaba.
My duty also includes to work in close co-ordination with the marketing department and
brainstorming new marketing and sales tactics and devising plans to promote the products in
the global market for PVC. Reaching out to customers and visiting different organisations for
the aim of securing new businesses. Managing the basic accounting books, communicating
with the employees of the firm and conducting market research.
Tasks
My tasks are prepared and guided by Mr. Rehan, the managing director of the company
throughout the period of 16 weeks.
My role as an intern are to establish an e-business model in the organisation, conduct research
on new and existing business models, Secure new customers, attend meetings with the team
and manage the manufacturing process.
The tasks I have done are as below:
Propose and create an e-commerce platform for the business.
Developing ideas on how the company can gain more exposure in the market. Formed
ideas on the various ways this can be achieved by a PVC manufacturing company
such as Reliance Rubber & Plastic Industries. Alibaba was the best decision due to the
nature of the company and hence, I started to promote the various products such as
Sit-On skirting, Set-In skirting and other flooring materials on the site and soon
receiving responses from many interested customers.
Taken the role of a salesperson
Have had hands-on experience by being tasked with marketing and promoting the
various products manufactured by the company to prospective buyers. Approaching
companies to inquire their interest in using high quality PVC profiles by
communications in real life and through the use of emails.
Carrying out market research
Researching on the various manufacturers of tile movement joints, ceramic tile trims
and ABS profiles, as well as the competitors. Categorically compiling the details and
using them for the purpose tasked by the supervisor of each department.
Development Of Employability Skills
I have learnt and enhanced Important critical skills such as communication, management,
results and interpersonal skills.
Among all the valuable things that I have learnt during my internship at Reliance Rubber &
Plastic Industries is how to communicate properly with professional bodies such as the
customers and suppliers. My networking skills have improved by the end of this internship.
Also I have acquired the ability to extract accurate results and be highly attentive to details
provided during my tasks. The outcome of this was to possess in depth knowledge on each
task.
Furthermore, I learnt to properly present an analysis of sales by making neat arrangement of
the available data and learnt several Microsoft Excel functions as well as usage of Pivot
tables, sales chart and draft a flow chart.
There are several other soft skills in me that has been enhanced as well such as teamwork,
critical thinking and logical reasoning.
My Future Plan
I have experienced the work life of an E-commerce salesperson and administrator. I would
like to explore more on other departments and industry as well.
My next plans are to start up blogging as a practise for writing and to improve my marketing
skills. I would also start working as a content writer for a Youtube channel. This is to gain
more exposure on the social media industry.
After ending my final year, I have planned to take two more internship opportunities in the
Human Resource and Public Relation departments in other companies. This would increase
my connections and my exposure level.
Depending on which department interests me more, I would pursue a Masters programme in
the area to specialize in it. My personal preference is more to the media industry as I see
many opportunities that can be taken. I have been researching on the possible scholarships
and courses offered part time and full time by universities in Germany and Canada.
I would also try applying for Management Trainee or Graduate programmes offered by
companies to be able to do job rotations locally and overseas. I think these programmes give
graduates more knowledge about the company and also provides the chance of meeting more
people in the company itself. This increases connection which would be very handy in future.
As mentioned above, every plan of mine coincides with each other. If I end up in the media
industry, I would have the postgraduate knowledge. If I end up in any companies I would
have media knowledge and connections needed from the industry. This would help me
achieve higher in many ways or channels.
For The Students In The Future
In future, the students must be given a list of companies they should apply for internship.
They should be prepared to face the needs of the company with hard skills like data analysis
and editing skills.
Students must be possessed with important hard skills and soft skills that is needed by the job
they apply. They should start searching for companies and job offers 3 months ahead. Once
applied, students must start preparing for interviews and the platforms they can use to sell
their skills and talents.
During the internship, students must be brave to voice out new ideas or opinions. By doing
this, they would convince the people in the organization with the talents that they showed in
the interview. It is not only about preaching what they can do but practising what they preach.
Corporate companies will not be easily satisfied with new ideas as the company would need
the student to be able to conduct the idea and show brilliant results. Only then the company
would take up the idea as an improvement to the system they already practise.
After the internship period, students must keep in mind to be able to go into the same
company or a different company, they must upgrade themselves with more skills or furnish
their current skills. By doing this, they would be able to impress the recruiters and easily get
more opportunities their way.
Conclusion
This internship experience was definitely a huge lesson. The company was very clear on the
procedures and requirements needed to be done by the intern. However, APU has to be
available to help the students to grab the opportunity and make sure every student is aware of
university’s procedure.
Opportunity as big as this is very rare. I would definitely take all the exposure and
experiences as a stepping stone to move forward. It has also thought me on how different the
working experience would be during world pandemic situation.
Recommendation
No proper briefing was given before internship. Thus, this made up many confusions.
Therefore, proper briefing and guidance is needed.
