Introduction and
Game Overview
Details
Overview All participant will compete in matches with another team as
partner to form an alliance.

Date 26th November 2023

Time 9.00 am - 6.00 pm

Location SPICE Arena, Penang

Competing area 1 table and 3 chairs will be provided.

F&B voucher/day 3 students, 1 teacher. Voucher will be provided during


registration. (Breakfast + lunch)
● Teachers are not allowed to be in the competition area after
registration

Futsal
Futsal is a variant of football played on a hard court,
smaller than a football pitch and mainly indoors. It is
played between two teams of five players each.

Futsal played with a smaller, harder and low-bounce


ball. The ball and rules together favour ball control
and passing in small spaces.

Game Description

The Challenge is to build a team of two manually controlled robots in a


team to successfully score as much goal as possible by bring a blue or
red colored ball to the goal with no or least foul while preventing the
opposition team robots to score goal within a given time.

Rules and
Regulation
Teams
● All teams must arrive and register earlier to know their group and time slots for their matches.
● Each team will consist of one robots, the robot can be played as either a defender or a forward robot
● Robots are not allowed to share among teams.
● Any substitution of robots is strictly forbidden and any team substituting robots will be disqualified
from the tournament.
● All teams are encouraged to bring spare parts only to replace any broken or faulty parts.
● No modifications are allowed throughout the tournament.
● Teams are advised to show up in Game Arena 10 minutes before their allocated time slots. Teams that
failed to show up on time will consider as lose for that particular match. During a match, 2 or 3
members from the same team should present in the match.
● If a team fails to show up on time during the time slot, the team will be disqualified for the one game.
● Team sides will be determine by coin tossing during the inspection.
● Each participant can only represent (be in) 1 team.
● This competition is only open for primary students to join ( 9 to 12 years old ).
Teams
● A team may consist of maximum up to 3 students, and one instructor (teacher/mentor) who
belongs to the same school.
● The legitimacy of any action not provided in this rulebook shall be subjected to the discretion
of the judges. Judges’ decisions are final and they hold the rights to decide any dispute.
Robot Specification
● Participants are required to build a robot using only ONE EV3/Spike brick. However, there is no
restriction on the number of sensors and motors use.
● The size of robot cannot exceed the size of 20cm x 20cm (length x width). Robot size will be
inspected in fully extended form only
● Robots must be pre-build and pre-installed with the program.
● Each robot must build together with at least one kicker mechanism to strike of the ball.
● Robots will be inspected to see how robots will play the ball. (Pushing, kicking and anyway that
is deemed suitable for the game will be allowed.)
● The robots shall be controlled using Mindstorm EV3, Spike or Scratch 3.0 platform only.
● Prior to a match, the robots must be readily connected to the controller or laptop for
controlling the robot
Robot Specification
● Only Educational Lego Mindstorms EV3(45544 & 45560)parts and Spike are allowed to be
used for building the robot in this competition. Non-Lego parts are not allowed to be used in
building the robot. Compatible bricks and 3rd party motors and sensors will not be accepted.
Robots parts will be inspected for every match.
● No other building materials can be used, including glue, tape, screws etc.
● Participants must mark or decorate their robots to identify them as belonging to the same
team. These must not influence the game play.
Game Field Specification
● The field is 2440mm long, 1220mm wide. It is surrounded by 70mm high wall
● The base of the field is red, there will be black lines on the field with a width of 20mm.
● The black line on the field is for the penalty box, goal line and centre line.
● The size of each goal post is 225 x 80 x 80mm ((length x width x height)
● The penalty box is 250 x 450mm (length x width) in both end of the team.
● The organiser will provide the best playing field possible, therefore any complain
regarding the playing field will not be entertained
Game Flow

Group stage (Qualification Round)

1. Out of the 25 teams and only 8 teams with the highest point will be able to continue
to knockout stage.
2. 2 teams will be pair together randomly to faced of with another 2 paired teams
3. A match consist of two 5 minutes halves.
4. There will be 1 minutes break in between halves to change side.
5. 3 points will be given to every match winner
6. 0 point will be given to the losing team
7. 1 point will be given to both team if it is a draw
8. Goal difference will be counted to get the top 8 teams from each group if the points
are similar.
Game Flow
Knockout stage

1. Consists of semi-final and final stage.


2. A match consists of two 5 minutes halves.
3. There will be 1 minute break in between halves to change side.
4. Only the winner of a particular match will proceed to the next match.
5. If is a draw, winner will be decide by Golden Goal match.

Game Play (Kick Off)
● At the start of the game referee will toss a coin. The team winning the toss can choose whether to
kick off at the start of the first half or the start of the second half.
● The team kicking off, will kick the ball from the centre spot on the field.
● Any parts of the robots are not allowed to be in the area of penalty box at all time.
● The team kicking off will place their robot first. These cannot be moved once the team has placed
them. The opponent team can then place their robots.
● The opponent robot’s placement for every kick off must not be interfere the kick off.
● The match will start with referee command. All robots must be started immediately by the
participants.
● Any robots that starts or released before the referee’s command will be given 1 minute penalty time.
● During every kick off, the robot must make a clear strike or release the ball and it must roll clear
away from the robot. An illegal kick off will result in the opposing side being granted the kick off.
● If a goal is scored, the non-scoring team will kick off to restart play.
Game Play (Scoring)
● A goal is scored when the whole ball drop into the goal post. This coincides with the ball
striking the back wall of the goal. The referee will blow the whistle.
● The robot shall be at the outside of the penalty box in order for a goal to be valid. The ball
must be free rolling through the penalty box area to score a goal otherwise it will be deemed
pushed by the referee and disallowed. In the event of a pushed goal, play will not be stopped.
The goal will not be allowed. The ball is placed on the center point and play is continued.
● Own goals will be treated as a goal to the opposition, even if the ball is pushed into the goal.
● Participants are not permitted to touch robots at any time without the referee’s permission.
Game Play (Fouling & Penalty)
● If a robot utilizes a device or an action which continuously attacks or charges a robot not in
the possession of the ball, the referee will call “Foul”. Penalty will be given to the offensive
team.
● The ball will then be placed in the half of team that is fouled and play will continue. Team that
fouls the opponent will have both robots in their own half.
● If a robot damaged by a foul, the referee will stop the game and stop the time up to 2 minute
while repairs are made.
● If a robot is touched or removed without the referee permission, referee will call for foul and 1
minutes penalty time be given.
○ o Penalty time: is an act of removing the robot from the playing field for a given time.
● If both robots are in their defensive penalty area and are considered to be affecting the game,
the referee will call Double Defence and move one of the robot with the least influence on the
match to the centre of the field.
Game Play (Fouling & Penalty)
● Participant must remove a robot from the ground field for 1 minute as penalty if any part of the
robot move/pass over the penalty box(line and area)
● Penalty kick is given to the opponent team if HALF of the robot pass over the penalty line.
● In any case of penalty kick,
o The ball will be placed on the center point.
o The robot must be placed anywhere within their own region and only the kicker
mechanism are allowed to being used.
Game Play (Game Time)
● Each match will consists with two 5 minutes halves.
● 1 minute break will be given between halves to change sides
● The timer will be projected and run without stopping throughout the match.
● Participants can only request to call a timeout when there is a damaged or disconnected.
● Timeout time is up to 1 minute. 1 timeout is allowed per half time per team in a match.
Game Play (Final Selection)
● Teams will be selected for knockout stage on the following criteria:
○ Points scored
○ Goal scored
○ Goal difference
○ The winning team (if two tied teams competed against each other)
● Tied elimination for knockout stage
○ If scores are tied in knockout stage, the match will continue for an extra 5 minutes until a
“Golden Goal” is scored. The match will ends right after the golden goal is scored.
○ If a goal is not scored after the 5 minutes of extra time, winner will be decided by penalty
kick.
Game Play (Reset)
● Reset will be called if a match encounters any of the situations below:
○ the ball is stuck between multiple robots for up to 5 seconds and has no chance of being
freed.
○ No robot has any chance of approaching the ball within 5 seconds.
● In any case of reset,
○ All robots will be removed from the playing field and place them in their respective home
○ The referee will roll the ball from the wall mid-way along the center line of the field,
towards the center of the field.
○ Robots will be released only when the ball leaves the referee hand.
○ Any robot that cannot start immediately will be considered as “damaged”.
○ Any robot that is released before the ball is released will be given 1 minute penalty time.
Game Play (Damaged Robots)
● A robot will be considered damaged by the referee if it has major breakage.
○ Major breakage = breakage that makes the robot cannot function properly.
● A damaged robot will be remain off the field for 1 minute or until a goal is scored.
● If there is any minor breakage, referee will remove the parts from the field and hand it
to the participants.
○ Minor breakage = breakage that still allow the robot to function properly.
Game Play (Robot Control)
● Robot must only be controlled wirelessly via bluetooth using laptop
● Robot must be able started manually.
● Only Mindstorm EV3 and Scratch 3.0, Spike platforms are allowed to be used.
● Robot must be able to move in all directions.
Game Play (Ball Control)
● Ball Capturing Zones are defined as any internal space created when a straight edge is place
on any of the protruding points of a robot that can touch the ball
● The ball cannot penetrate the Ball Capturing Zone by more than 10 mm.
● A robot cannot hold a ball. Holding a ball means removing any of the balls degrees of
freedom. For example, this could mean fixing a ball to the robot, surrounding or trapping the
ball with any parts of the robot body and also being held underneath a robot. If a ball stops
rolling while a robot is moving, or a ball does not rebound when rolled into a stationary robot, it
is a good indication that the ball is held and is illegal.
● No part of a robot can protrude over more than 10 mm from the point the robot touch the ball.
Game Play (Defender and Attacker)
● If a defender is used, it cannot limit its movement to a single direction on the field. It must be
programmed to move in all directions.
● Any parts of defender robot is not allowed to be in the penalty box at all time.
● Defender role is to defend the ball from going into the goal area
● Attacker role is to score goals
