Overall Purpose:

Middlesex University is undertaking a major website transformation programme, including


the migration of our main websites to a new content management system (CMS) and
hosting solution.

Working in conjunction with other members of the website migration project team as a
workstream lead, the Digital Implementation Lead will be responsible for the definition,
prioritisation and delivery of the technical elements of our new CMS capability to the
University.

For the website project, the role holder will collect, document and oversee the technical
specification of our new CMS, ensuring that 3rd party agencies are briefed to deliver them
on time and to an appropriate standard.

The Digital Implementation Lead will work in conjunction with the Head of Digital Marketing,
the Digital Project Manager, current website team and the other workstream leads to
ensure interdependencies are identified, explored and managed accordingly.

They will have the ability to communicate requirements to people of both technical and non-
technical backgrounds.

They will also create a formative technical roadmap for the longer-term development of
Middlesex’s digital real estate, and develop the means to delivery this roadmap, thereby
ensuring that we can gain and maintain competitive advantage in the industry.

An excellent multi-tasker, people and project manager, you will enjoy solving problems as
well as understanding and meeting customer requirements. This is a varied and exciting
opportunity to work on a high profile project and beyond.

Principal Duties:

 Manage the CMS implementation workstream of the MDX website migration project
 Work with the designated agency to develop effective user journeys, on page
components, page designs and navigation conventions
 Be the lead contact for our 3rd partner technical and design agency for the delivery
of our new CMS platform and on-page elements
 Collaborate with the other workstream leads (and other MDX stakeholders) to
understand interdependencies and appropriate sequencing of the CMS and design
elements with other project deliverables
 Create in-depth technical requirements for the configuration of our new CMS
system, including on-page elements, workflows, user profiles, tagging taxonomies
and visual brand elements
 Work with the wider project group and MDX stakeholders to identify potential
website features. Create a roadmap for their delivery based on user need, business
priority and technical feasibility
 Manage the project user testing and feedback processes in conjunction with the 3rd
party agency
 Ensure that sprint deliverables are supported by a robust pre- and post-live
checklist of activities, coordinating the technical elements of the test processes to
ensure a smooth launch
 Lead the development of user training material, handing it over to appropriate
colleagues for ongoing delivery to our publisher community
 Expand our formative technical roadmap over time to encompass other digital
platforms so that our technical change process is centralised and supported on an
integrated multi-channel basis. This may include CRM, student app, microsites and
social media tools.

 Any such other duties required by the Head of Digital Marketing which are consistent with
the grade of the post.
 As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended

Personal Specification

Essential Selection Criteria: Education, Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills &


Aptitude

 Significant experience of the technical elements of Content Management Systems (e.g.


Terminalfour, Squiz Matrix, Drupal, Wordpress, etc.) including workflow, editing, asset
management, roles and permissions, component management and publishing processes
(experience of working with other CMS will also be of benefit)
 Significant experience working in high-pressure digital environments, with a demonstrable
track record of managing and developing content management systems as a systems
owner
 Experience of managing projects for large, public-facing websites with complex
requirements, from initiation through to delivery
 Holistic awareness of good digital practice, with particular regard to CMS best practice,
front-end development, redirect methodology, user testing, wireframing, UX, SEO,
accessibility and modern design techniques
 Experience of taking a user-centred, analytics-informed approach to developing technical
capability
 Experience of liaising with technical and business specialists (in-house and external) to
brief complex requirements through effective communication and robust documentation
 Experience of working in a brand led environment where design elements must be
delivered in conformance with organisational standards
 Experience of working with stakeholders to collate and document technical specifications,
and demonstrating the judgement and diplomacy to challenge these where they do not
drive value to the University
 Creating and cataloguing project documentation
 Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to establish close
working relationships with a range of stakeholders and suppliers
 Impressive organisational skills and an ability to work to deadlines
 Demonstrable commitment to fairness and the principles of equality and inclusion.

Hours: 35.5 hours per week 52 weeks per year, actual daily hours by arrangement.
The nature of the post is such that the post holder will be expected to work flexibly and for
such reasonable hours as are necessary in order to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of
the post.

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus six University days and all Bank Holidays
