Position Title: Wells Engineer

Purpose: • To ensure that well planning and rig site activities are carried out
according to the safest internationally accepted standard and practice
in the oil industry.
• Proficient in the use of well engineering software packages
(Landmark - Wellplan, Compass, Dims, Stresscheck, e.t.c)
• Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite including Excel, Word,
and Outlook as well as other business systems
• Gather and interpret data to calculate well plans as required by the
company.
• Prepare plan reports, anti-collision reports, and wall plots for company
field use.
• Ability to read and comprehend reports and other documentation
received in the course of performing duties.
• Develop well planning and drilling procedures that will improve the
company drilling index on a continuous basis to enhance reduced
drilling cost and better operations performance.
• To ensure that accurate engineering parameters are collected on the
well site and circulated to all approve consumers on time.
Key Roles & At the Office
Responsibilities:
• Plan and design wells using Landmark well engineering software
packages.
• Prepare Wells AFE and actively participate in the Execution of new
Wells or workovers.
• Work with well data sheet and Geological prognosis for reservoir
targets, Directional drilling plan, Torque & drag analysis, Hydraulics,
Drill string and drill bit programs, casing design, Drilling fluids and
cementing programs.
• Prepare BOD documents, drilling & sidetrack programs for offshore
and Onshore wells.
• Monitor all phases of well operations, analyze performance, carry out
post execution analysis, document problems / lessons learnt and
recommend performance enhancing initiatives at all phases of Well
Delivery.
• Prepare end of well reports (EOWRs)
• Inter-face effectively with other teams e.g., subsurface, HSEQ,
projects, commercial, finance to safely and successfully deliver well
projects.
• Ensure NUIMS and NUPRC engagements are effective to support
company operations.
• Provide optimal solution to well engineering and operations problems
and implement proper application of technology and best practices.
• Prepare, gather, organize, and optimally use information on
equipment specifications, operating agreements, technical
publications, and relevant operational manual / guidelines.
• Monitor and analyze daily drilling process and daily well cost for
decision making & cost optimization.
• Prepare AFE/well-cost estimate.
• Evaluate third party design analysis for thoroughness and accuracy.
• Keep informed on applicable governmental laws and regulations,
advise others as needed, and ensure compliance and assists in
regulatory permitting process.
• Prepare and defend all drilling budget related activities and sign-off.
• Participate in all phases of Wells Contract Tendering Process,
including detailed scope of work preparation for well services.
At the Rigsite
• Work closely with the Drilling Supervisor and Service Contractors on
the rig to ensure that drilling and completion or workover operations
are carried out as per programme and to ensure that all service
contractors perform their duties in a timely and safe manner.
• Responsible for optimal deployment of well services, materials and
equipment (i.e. logistics and inventory).
• Schedules and supervises rig site operation by ensuring safety and
the best economic and cost-effective technical applications. Provide
technical support and audit during drilling.
• Perform well site supervision on Drilling, Work over and Completion
operations. Monitor Directional drilling/surveys, Drilling fluids,
open/cased hole logging and interpretation, casing and cementing,
LOT/FIT, DST/Well testing, Well Control etc. to ensure safe drilling
operations.
• Prepare well reports such as Daily Drilling/Completion and
Engineering reports, casing/tubing tallies, Bit records/dull grading,
Pore pressure/mud weight curve, Time-depth cost curve, Timelines
Look Ahead, NPT/Lesson learnt, daily well cost & End of well report.
• Ensuring and implementing safety, QAQC, environmental regulations,
corporate policy, and contract terms during drilling operations.
Accountabilities: • Timely preparation of drilling programs, drilling cost and other
operations procedure to avoid delays on rig-time.
• To ensure that accurate engineering parameters are collected at the
well site and circulated to all approve users on time.
• To ensure that drilling contractors perform according to the terms of
the contract without default.
• Work closely with the QA/QC team to ensure that only tested and
certified materials and equipment are used during drilling and related
well construction and work over exercise.
• Timely preparation of daily estimated costs and all other necessary
reports from the well site for onward transmission to the office.
• To facilitate prompt mobilization of service providers when needed
and to facilitate prompt demonization of service providers dispense of
to control budget/cost as well as decongestion rig site location for
smooth workflow.
• To provide guideline to junior engineers and assist in developing their
career path.
• Work with other team members and sister departments to ensure that
annual drilling target for technical departments (goals) are duly met at
reasonable cost.
• Share well planning and design issues with other engineers,
teammates, and sister department.

KPIs: • Ensure that every junior engineer or intern working in the team have
the basic knowledge of safe drilling engineering exercise and assist
when they prepare reports or dissertation.
• Provide technical support to the drilling supervisors and contractors in
the rig.
• Schedule operations meeting and sessions with other team mates to
discuss technical issues.
• Ensure that drilling parameters acquired during drilling operations are
accurate.
• Implementation of recommended drilling practice, reviews and
standards.

Key Skills, • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Mechanical or equivalent
Experience and engineering discipline
Qualifications • Must possess relevant certifications in drilling and petroleum
required: engineering
• At least 5 years varied experience in Drilling & Workover Operations/
Engineering
• Possession of valid IWCF Well Control certificate or equivalent and
BOSIET is an added advantage.
• Strong team player in a multidiscipline environment
• Knowledge of horizontal, high angle and multilateral well design is an
advantage
• Motivated, ability to work largely unsupervised.
• Excellent communications skills
• Competent in the use of well engineering software packages
