Practice

Exercise 2. Practice Thematic Progression and Linearity. Choose TWO TOPICS and start
explaining them based on the concepts discussed in class.

Example: Coming from privileged backgrounds opens up more opportunities for personal
growth. Firstly, it is advantageous for individuals from privileged backgrounds to have access to
comprehensive education. By attending top-tier universities, these elite individuals gain
invaluable knowledge, skills, and networks that enable them to further their family's legacies.
This is evidenced by Ivanka Trump, who studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania,
one of the most prestigious universities in the US, where she earned a high-quality education and
extensive networking opportunities to become an influential advisor in her father's presidential
electoral campaigns. Secondly, access to well-rounded healthcare services ensures better overall
well-being and personal development. In case of emergencies, they receive immediate attention
and advanced treatments to prevent long-term health issues.

Example: Governments should be accountable for environmental protection. Firstly,

stringent regulations must be enacted to act as a deterrent against environmental violations. By
imposing heavy penalties on corporations and individuals who engage in illegal dumping and
pollution, officials can create a strong incentive for compliance, thus reducing harmful practices.
This is exemplified by the Environmental Protection Law in Singapore, where violators face
substantial fines and potential imprisonment, thereby ensuring rigorous adherence to
environmental standards.Secondly, it is essential to launch widespread propagation campaigns.
public service announcements, educational workshops, and community clean-up events can
inform citizens about the importance of environmental conservation and how they can
contribute, leading to more environmentally conscious behaviors

1. Negative Sides of Being Vegetarians

Drawback 1: Nutritional Deficiencies

 Explain how being a vegetarian can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients like vitamin
B12, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids.
 Provide an example of individuals who do not supplement their diet with fortified foods or
supplements, leading to conditions like anemia and resulting in fatigue and weakness.

Drawback 2: Limited Food Choices

 Explain how vegetarians often face limited food choices when dining out or attending social
events.
 Provide an example of the lack of vegetarian options at many restaurants, forcing vegetarians
to settle for side dishes, leading to dissatisfaction and inadequate nutrition.

2. Fallouts of Disseminating Falsehoods on Social Media

Consequence 1: Misinformation Spread

 Explain how spreading false information on social media can lead to widespread
misinformation and panic.
 Provide an example of the rapid spread of fake news during health crises, where misleading
information about treatments causes public hysteria and dangerous health decisions.

Consequence 2: Damage to Reputations

 Explain how falsehoods can damage the reputations of individuals and organizations.
 Provide an example of online smear campaigns, where false accusations tarnish the image of
reputable figures, leading to a loss of trust and credibility.

3. Reasons for Failures of Recycling Activities

Reason 1: Lack of Awareness

 Explain how many people are unaware of proper recycling methods and the importance of
recycling.
 Provide an example of households not separating recyclables from general waste, leading to
recyclable materials ending up in landfills and failing to reduce environmental impact.

Reason 2: Insufficient Infrastructure

 Explain how inadequate recycling infrastructure makes it difficult for people to recycle
effectively.
 Provide an example of the absence of accessible recycling bins in public areas, which
discourages recycling and leads to increased litter.

4. Positive Sides of Space Exploration

Benefit 1: Technological Advancements

 Explain how space exploration drives technological innovations that benefit various
industries.
 Provide an example of the development of satellite technology, enhancing global
communication networks and improving connectivity and data transfer.

Benefit 2: Scientific Discoveries

 Explain how exploring space leads to significant scientific discoveries that advance our
understanding of the universe.
 Provide an example of the discovery of water on Mars, suggesting potential for past life and
leading to new insights into planetary science and the possibility of future colonization.

Remember, any violations under any circumstances shall never be accepted. Be careful with
your decisions.
