LESSON PROPER

Motivation
Before we start our lesson, I want you to
feel your pulse. I will count 10 second
after that write it your paper.

PRESENTATION

Our topic for today is all about target

heart rate

DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS

What is heart rate/pulse?

Number of times your heart beats per
minute.

The different kinds of heart rate?

Resting Heart Rate (RHR)
Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)
Target Heart Rate Zone (THRZ)

How to Calculate your resting Heart rate,

Maximum Heart Rate and Target Heart
Rate

1.1) Resting Heart Rate (RHR)

Determine number of beats per
minute (bpm)
Find your pulse on wrist or neck.
Count number of beats for 10 sec.
Multiple that number by 6

_______________x6 = _________bpm
(no.beats in 10 sec) (RHR)

My Resting Heart Rate : ________bpm

2) Maximum Heart Rate (MHR)

Subtract your age from 220
This is a baseline number
May be higher or lower

220 - ________ = _______bpm

(age) (MHR)

3) Target Heart Rate Zone (THRZ): This

is a range of 65% - 85% of your
maximum heart rate. You will calculate
this in two
steps by finding your THR at 65% and
then your THR at 85%. Then write your
THR range in the last row.

Target Heart Rate (THR) at 65%

(MHR - RHR) x 0.65 = THR at 65%

Range at 65% of Maximum Heart Rate:

__________ - ___________ = ________

(MHR) (RHR) (MHR-RHR)

____________x0.65= ____________bpm
(MHR-RHR) (THR@65%)

My Target Heart Rate @ 65%:

________bpm

Target Heart Rate (THR) at 85%

(MHR - RHR) x 0.85 = THR at 85%

Range at 85% of Maximum Heart Rate:

_______ - ________ = ___________bpm
(MHR) (RHR) (MHR-RHR)

____________x0.85= ____________bpm
(MHR-RHR) (THR@85%)

My Target Heart Rate @ 85%:

________bpm

My Target Heart rate Zone (THRZ)

___________bpm to________bpm
(THR@65) (THR@85%)

Generalization
To see if you really understand our
lesson, let’s have a recap.

What is the formula for finding your Ma’am for the Resting Heart Rate is
resting heart rate and maximum heart
rate? _________________x6 = _________bpm
(no.beats in 10 sec) (RHR)

and the Maximum Heart Rate is

220 - ________ = _______bpm
(age) (MHR)

2. Your target heart rate should be

_______% to _______% of your Ma’am65% to 85%
maximum heart rate.

Ma’am Target Heart Rate

What do the letters THR stand for?

Excellent! It seems that you really

understand our lesson for today.

Application

Determine your own target heart rate

zone. Lower 65% __________ Upper
85% __________

Evaluation

Calculate the target heart rate range

Age - 30
Resting Heart Rate -78
First of all, you need the following data:
A) Maximum Heart Rate— 220 - 30 = 190
(220) – age = _____
B) Resting Heart Rate
RHR = 78 Resting Heart Rate =78

Enter the above data in the following two

formulas and solve. The formulas
represent the lower (65%) and upper
(85%) limits of the target heart rate range.
(65%)—______ - ______ = _____ x .65 (65%) 190 - 78 = 112bpm
= ______ 112 x 0.65 = 72.8bpm

(85%)—______ - ______ = ______ x .85

= ______ (85%) 190 - 78 = 112 bpm
Enter the target heart rate: The target 112 x 0.65 = 95.2bpm
heart rate is: ___________ to
___________ The target heart rate is: 72.8bpm to
85bpm

Assignment:

Take your resting heart rate then do each

of the following activities:
(Make sure to warm up prior to doing any
of these activities and to stretch after)
1. Walk for 10 minutes then take your
heart rate for 1 minute. Record results
________________
2. Jog for 5 minutes then take your heart
rate for 1 minute. Record
results____________________
3. Do any activity you want (safe and
legal). then take your heart rate for 1
minute. Record results______________

That’s all for today

“Goodbye class! See you next meeting. Goodbye Teacher
God bless and keep safe”
