Reading Comprehension
Passage 1: A Visit to the Zoo
Last Saturday, our class went on a trip to the city zoo. It was an exciting day as many of us had never been
to the zoo before. We met at the school gate early in the morning, and our teacher, Mrs. Lee, took attendance
to make sure everyone was present. Then, we boarded the bus and set off on our adventure.
When we arrived at the zoo, we were greeted by a friendly zookeeper named Mr. Green. He gave us a brief
introduction about the zoo and some safety rules to follow. The first animals we saw were the elephants.
They were enormous and gentle. One of the elephants even performed some tricks for us, which made
everyone clap and cheer.
Next, we visited the lion's enclosure. The lions looked fierce and majestic. Mr. Green told us that lions are
often called the "king of the jungle" because of their strength and powerful roar. We watched the lions for a
while before moving on to see the monkeys. The monkeys were very playful and swung from tree to tree.
Some of them even came close to the fence and made funny faces at us.
After that, we went to the bird aviary. The aviary was filled with beautiful birds of all colours. We saw
parrots, peacocks, and even a toucan with its brightly coloured beak. It was amazing to see such a variety of
birds in one place. Mrs. Lee took lots of photos, and we posed with some of the birds in the background.
At noon, we had a picnic lunch in the zoo's park area. We sat on the grass and enjoyed our sandwiches,
fruits, and snacks. It was a sunny day, and everyone was in high spirits. After lunch, we had some free time
to explore the zoo on our own in small groups. Some of us went to the reptile house to see snakes and
lizards, while others visited the aquarium to see the fish and sea creatures.
Before we left the zoo, we all gathered at the gift shop to buy souvenirs. I bought a small stuffed elephant to
remind me of the wonderful day we had. Finally, we boarded the bus and headed back to school. We were
all tired but happy, and we couldn't stop talking about the fun we had at the zoo.
