Introduction

“What’s my best career path according to Astrology?” is one of the

most common questions I get asked by readers. And it is only logical
– having a profession which gives us that sense of fulfilment and
success is a major part of our life here on Earth. This is among the
most essential parts of our existence – having the material resources
to meet our physical needs, loving relationships to meet our
emotional needs, and a North Star to give us the feeling of purpose
and meaning!

That is why here I will do my best to share with you an example

algorithm to find the most probable career field where you may have
more opportunities for achievements, having success, and a
better social status. Remember that the natal chart shows us
potentials and inclinations. What we manage to achieve in life
depends heavily on our level of awareness, free will, our actions, our
belief system, our environments, etc. So, what we will be doing here
is focusing on the possibilities that might be available to you, but the
choice is yours! Your internal GPS will show you the way with or
without the help of Astrology!

OK, now that we got this disclaimer out of the way, let’s get to the
algorithm itself!

Step 1 Calculate your birth chart

To start assembling your own astrology career report, you have to

gather the following data:

 Exact date of birth – sadly, there are cases where people have
their birth date mistaken in the official records or adopted kids

4|Page
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

with no accurate data of their birth. Fortunately, these are very

rare cases, but just to be safe, make sure your date is correct.

 Place of birth – note the place where you were born, not the
place you were raised in (if they are different). If that’s not a
particular city or village, find the geographical coordinates, if
possible.
 Time of birth – this is the hard part. Most people don’t know
their exact time of birth. First, ask your mother. If she does not
remember (well, she was kind of busy giving birth), search for
some medical records. Each birth in a hospital should be
documented and if you can find these records – perfect – you
are all set!

But what if you can’t find this information? If you are not able to find
your accurate birth data and you still want to see your birth chart,
there is one final option. You can go to a professional astrologer. Good
astrologers with lots of experience can offer a service called
“rectification”. It’s a very intricate procedure that not everyone can
do. They can adjust the time of your birth using the timing of some
significant events in your life. So, keep that in mind as a last resort
option.

In case you have all needed information, you are good to go!

Step 2 The Medium Coeli Cusp

Now, find reliable Astrology software or an app to calculate your

chart. Fortunately, there are a ton of options online which are
completely free.

Once you have your birth chart calculated, you can look at some
specific points in the horoscope which are associated with your best
possible career field. And one of these main points is the Medium
Coeli.

5|Page
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

The Medium Coeli is the top most point in the natal chart and you
can usually find it as an arrow pointing up. You can see it signified
as MC (short for Medium Coeli), MH (short for Midheaven) or simply
as the number 10 (or X) since this is the cusp of the 10th astrological
house.

Here’s what the 10th house is!

The tenth astrological house (or the Medium Coeli or Midheaven)

governs the following areas of our lives:

 Your father

This aspect of the Medium Coeli point is often undeservingly

overlooked. Most people are too focused on the potential for career
success while forgetting that our fathers play a huge role in this
process. Understanding our relationship with our dad, and
making conscious improvements can have a profound positive
effect on how we deal with our professional growth, and how we
deal with the outer world in general. So, the characteristics of your
papa, as seen in this astrological house, can be extremely helpful
when it comes to taking advantage of the skills and talents that may
be passed down from generation to generation – and ultimately that
may lead to success! It is no coincidence that in the past, people
would just continue working in the same professional field as their
dads, perfecting their craft, and getting more and more recognition
and success with each generation!

 The authorities

Our father archetype shapes our worldview and how we deal with the
outer world (outside of our home and private space). And that
includes all kinds of outer authorities as well – our teachers,
mentors, bosses, the law enforcement, and the ultimate
authority – the government. So, again, your tenth house cusp, the
lord of the MC and its aspects can tell a long story how you deal with
these areas of your life, and more importantly – whether you have

6|Page
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

the ability to take advantage of or receive support from them or vice

versa.

 Your social status

As I like to often point out – your tenth house may or may not signify
becoming wealthy per se or amassing lots of assets (this is the realm
of the second house). However, what your Midheaven can show you is
your potential for climbing up the ladder of the social hierarchy!

 Your reputation

This aspect of the MH is tightly connected to the previous one. Your

reputation and your potential for getting recognition from others is
deeply intertwined with our social status and how other people see
us. Do they perceive us as successful and worthy of respect or not?
This is also the astrological house of fame. And this often has to
do with your overall reputation and professional achievements.
Which leads us to the next big thing about the MC – achievements.

 Your biggest achievements in life

The 10th house in astrology is the go-to place to analyze when it

comes to your potential for your greatest accomplishments.
These are usually connected to our professional development, but
that’s not always the case.

 Your vocation

This is something extremely important to pretty much every human

being. It is no coincidence that the MH cusp is the highest point in
our natal charts. This is something way beyond our day to day jobs
that pay the bills (the domain of the sixth house). This is our life’s
calling – something bigger than us, something that gives us the
ultimate meaning of our existence, that gives us a sense of
purpose.

7|Page
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

 Your mother-in-law

Say what?! Let me explain! Every astrological house in our chart can
be seen as a derivative house. This means that the fourth house (the
mother) from the seventh (our spouse) will show us the mother of our
spouse – our mother-in-law. Also, the 10th house may also signify
the job of our children – the sixth house (the job) from the fifth
(our kids). This is also the seventh (the spouse) from the fourth (the
mother) – the spouse of our mother which is usually our dad.

I hope that now you can already see how intricate a natal chart can
be!

OK, but what does that information tell us about YOUR Medium
Coeli?

Let’s find out!

Now that you have your birth chart at hand and you found the
position of your MC cusp, it is time to check the zodiac sign in which
this cusp is placed. For the sake of ease, here I will give you a list of
the glyphs of all the 12 signs:

Aries - ♈
Taurus - ♉
Gemini - ♊
Cancer - ♋
Leo - ♌
Virgo - ♍
Libra - ♎
Scorpio - ♏
Sagittarius - ♐
Capricorn - ♑
Aquarius -♒
Pisces - ♓

You can find the detailed interpretations of these cusps down below

The Medium Coeli cusp in the 12 zodiac signs

This is the first place where you can learn some of the best potential
professional fields that might be suitable for you.

Step 3 The 10th House Ruler

Now that you know the Midheaven sign (and the potential
professional areas it is associated with), you can identify the house
ruler and its placement. The ruling planet or luminary also has a
strong significance as to what type of career may be best to pursue
and where it is more likely to have a better level of success and
achievements.

If you are not familiar with the signs’ lords, here is a list which can
be useful:

 If your MC is in Aries (♈), the lord is Mars (♂);

 If your MC is in Taurus (♉), the lord is Venus (♀);
 If your MC is in Gemini (♊), the lord is Mercury (☿);
 If your MC is in Cancer (♋), the lord is the Moon (☽);
 If your MC is in Leo (♌), the lord is the Sun (☉);
 If your MC is in Virgo (♍), the lord is Mercury (☿);
 If your MC is in Libra (♎), the lord is Venus (♀);
 If your MC is in Scorpio (♏), the lords are Mars (♂) and
Pluto (♇);
 If your MC is in Sagittarius (♐), the lord is Jupiter (♃);
 If your MC is in Capricorn (♑), the lord is Saturn (♄);
 If your MC is in Aquarius (♒), the lords are Saturn (♄) and
Uranus (♅);
9|Page
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

 If your MC is in Pisces (♓), the lords are Jupiter (♃) and

Neptune (♆).

Note that some astrological signs have more than one ruling
planets, such as Scorpio, Aquarius, and Pisces!

Another extremely important detail to take into account is that the

natural ruler of the 10th house is Saturn. So, Saturn will always be
one of the significators for career, social status, and achievements.
When analyzing your Medium Coeli you should always include the
placement of Saturn as well.

Here’s a quick example! If your 10th house cusp is in Pisces, you

should look at the positions of Neptune, Jupiter, and Saturn. If your
Medium Coeli is in Capricorn, you will need to take into account only
the placement of Saturn.

So, identify your tenth house lord and check its location by sign and
house. The astrological sign it is placed in will tell you some other
potential professional areas you may have success in or some
qualities you may possess that will help you in your career
advancement.

For the sake of simplicity, here I will mention the main professional
areas associated with each sign:

Aries – soldier, police officer, investigator, all leadership positions,

entrepreneur, shepherd, barber, racer, competitive athlete;
professions related to fire and metal, such as blacksmith, foundry

Now, what I want you to do is check the house in which your 10th
house ruler (or rulers) is placed.

Step 4 The Ascendant

The Ascendant is an extremely important part of the natal chart in

general, and it should always be taken into account when analyzing
the overall potential of the individual. And that applies in full force
to the best career options as well for a couple of reasons:

 The rising sign represents a big chunk of our personality

Logically, the career that we want to pursue has to be in line
with our character traits, potential, skills, and expertise. That
is why any natal chart analysis should start from the

13 | P a g e
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

personality of the individual – hence the importance of paying

close attention to the Ascendant;

 The rising sign is our face in front of the world

This is something very important to remember about the
Ascendant – this is how we want people to perceive us – the
part of our personality that we gladly show to the outer world.
This is why we can guess someone’s Ascendant more easily
than their Sun sign (if they are different). In addition to that,
just think about how much we identify with our jobs and the
career paths that we choose. They have become parts of our
identities and part of the image we want to show to other
people. That is why many people do choose a profession which
is deeply connected to their rising sign. Remember that the
Medium Coeli is our reputation, while the ASC is how we want
people to see us – and they usually work hand in hand when
analyzing the potential for a successful career;

 The rising sign is the key to unlocking our potential

According to one of the most esteemed astrologers (especially in
the area of Karmic Astrology) Martin Schulman, our natal
charts are like funnels, and the mouth of these funnels is the
Ascendant. It acts like a gate that guards the access to our
immense potential locked in our birth chart. That is why
Schulman argues that if we want to have a greater level of
success in any area of our lives, we need to start with working
on the challenges of the rising sign.

OK! I hope you are convinced why the rising sign (or the cusp of the
first house) is so important and its tight connection to our career
potential. So, now what you can do is find the sign on the cusp of your
1st house and get a better idea about your personality traits, your
abilities, soft spots, and possible career choices. The Ascendant is
located on the far Eastern part of your natal chart and it looks like
an arrow pointing left. It is usually marked as ASC.

The 12 Ascendant signs

Also, go back to the list of professions and see which ones are related
to your rising sign.

Step 5 How Does It All Tie Up?

You may feel a little overwhelmed by all this information at this

point, but at the same time you may also have had some aha
moments. That’s what we are after!

Here’s a radical idea – you don’t need an astrologer to tell you what
your calling is! What Astrology does well is point to some potentials,
but as you could see, the potentials are numerous and certainly there
are is more than one right answer to the question at hand. The
defining factor is… YOU. What does your internal GPS system tell
you and where does it lead you? That is why the term is “a calling” –
because it calls us. What people achieve by using these kinds of natal
chart interpretations is reaffirming to themselves that their gut
instinct was right and they “knew” what they were called to do long
ago. What Astrology often succeeds to do is give us the motivation to
actually go and take the first step.

So, how would I approach this subject? I would read all the
descriptions of the aforementioned elements and note down when
something catches my attention. Is that something I love doing? Was
I dreaming of having a career in this field? Does that profession align
with my skills, knowledge, and expertise? Does that career field
align with my personality? Only you know the answers to these
questions, and as I mentioned previously – there is a high probability
that the correct answers are more than one.

15 | P a g e
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

I will take the opportunity to dispel some myths on this topic (in my
personal opinion, of course):

 We can have more than one calling – the career paths which
are in line with your immense potential can be multiple and
that’s totally fine. This can be especially true if you have a
strong mutable quality in your chart. The mutable signs are
Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, and Pisces.
 Success is not always fast and easy – I think there is this
notion that if you find your perfect career path everything will
be smooth sailing from that point on. I think this is not true.
Remember that the 10th house is always under the government
of Saturn. So, when it comes to career and achievements we are
always more or less playing by Saturnian rules. It is important
to keep in mind that this is a slow-moving planet which
requires discipline, persistence, ambition, the willingness
to continuously improve yourself, maturity, and working
within certain limits. Finding your calling will help you have
more chances to work through these challenges a bit more
easily, but persistent work is required.

How I Became a Best-Selling Author

I admit – the title I chose is a little cheeky, but I hope it can help me
illustrate my point. I will give myself as an example how I found my
calling by analyzing the potential in my natal chart in hopes of
helping you do the same following this algorithm.

So, I have my Medium Coeli in Gemini which gives me the ability to

pursue a career (actually more than one career since it is a dual
mutable sign) in the areas of writing, communication, education
(especially primary education), marketing, etc. Hence the ruling
planet is Mercury which is located in Aquarius in the 5th house. That
entails working in the fields of science or New Age type of disciplines
16 | P a g e
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

(including Astrology) and anything related hobbies, children,

creativity, etc. My Ascendant is Virgo, so I have the ability to use my
natural-born practicality in all these professional endeavors, as well
as working in all sorts areas related the flora and fauna. The natural
ruler of the 10th house, Saturn, is in the 3rd house of communication
in Sagittarius – the sign of philosophy and academics. So, tying all
this up, I would say that one of my callings is to write (Gemini +
Sagittarius + the 3rd house) about one of my most favorite hobbies (5th
house) Astrology (Aquarius) in a practical way (Virgo).

However, that’s not the only option available to me, and I can safely
say that all my career endeavors were naturally related to these
characteristics in my natal chart. One of my hobbies (5th house) is
growing orchids (Virgo), and I was asked by lots of friends to write
(Gemini + the 3rd house) a book on growing these exotic plants in a
step-by-step practical way (Virgo). Surprisingly, at some point the
book became a best-seller in its category. That’s something that truly
made me happy and it was definitely an achievement (Medium Coeli)
that was in line with the potential I saw in my horoscope.

I made a quick screenshot before the best-seller tag goes away. :-D

(Psst! If this topic intrigues you, feel free to check out the book!
Thank you! ♥ )

17 | P a g e
“Find Your Best Career with Astrology” by Melanie Goldstar at
mindbodyandspiritwellbeing.com

At some point in my life I was thoroughly enjoying being a book-

keeper which is absolutely perfect for someone with a strong
Mercurial influence – Virgo Ascendant and MC in Gemini.

Also, my childhood dream was to become a teacher – Virgo

Ascendant, MC in Gemini (primary education), Mercury in the 5th
house (children and being under the spotlight), Saturn in the 3rd
house (primary education) in Sagittarius (academics).

But remember, these are professions I chose because I felt

internally drawn towards, not because I saw them in an Astrology
book. Astrology only reaffirmed to me what I already knew inside
and reassured me that I made the right choices. 

I hope these examples, made it clearer to you how you can start
deciphering the professional potential your natal chart holds, and I
hope you got a better understanding how the interpretation process
happens.

And That’s Not All Either!

When I started my education in Astrology I learned an extremely

important principle that led me throughout these years (and that’s
something I keep reiterating in my articles) – always keep the
whole chart in mind! Any area in the birth chart we interpret (in
this case this is the 10th house) has to be seen through the lenses of
the whole picture. In other words, we need to have a general idea of
the personality of the individual so that we can assess which
professions might be more compatible with their character traits. For
instance, someone with a strong introversion with Medium Coeli in
Leo may choose to become a playwright instead of an actor. That is
why it is so important to get to know the potential of your entire
chart!

And this is what I will try to accomplish in my blog. I want to give

you an idea of what’s coming and how it may help you in any area of
your life (including your career pursuits).

Stay tuned and you will learn some intriguing stuff, like:

 The second house

Your career has to make you money, right? Well, this is the domain
of the second house - the assets we accumulate from our own
efforts. That is one of the houses of substance and it should also be
part of the career analysis. The other important house we will take a
look at is the 6th – our day-to-day job and habits. These two
houses lay out the foundation for the highest achievements we can
amount to in the 10th house. These three form the holy trinity of
material and professional success.

 Planets located in the 10th house

 The aspects to the 10th house cusp
 The aspects of the 10th house rulers
 The placements of the personal planets
 The meridians and dominants, etc.

Stay tuned!

I wish you lots of success, countless achievements, happiness, and

satisfaction in every area of your life!

Best,
Melanie
