1 What is SovaN
SovaN is new Command and Control software application mainly used for Border and Blue
border protection, Coastal observation, Rescue service and Global Security. It combines
advantages of thermal and daylight cameras with support of Laser Range Finder (LRF)
equipment all mounted on 360° PanTilt (PT) units. All equipment on a single location is
referred to as a multisensor (MS).
SovaN enables monitoring of multiple locations from a single or multiple C&C.
SovaN-UserGuide V01.3 ©2017 MELINT

2 User guide
The application has a graphical user interface (GUI) which is split to four main areas.
- Video area
- General control and system information
- PanTilt control
- Thermal/daylight camera control with utilities

NOTE: Some features in SovaN are not supported on all MS models.

2.1 General control and system information

Location
Select the location for surveillance by choosing it from the locations dropdown list
control in the top-left corner.

Main Control
Main control buttons are located in the bottom-left corner.
Master/Slave: SovaN needs to be connected to the server
(IPCom) to be able to control the multisensor. If in master mode
multisensor can be controlled and If in slave mode only status
data is being received.

Stop PT: Stops moving PT unit.

GIS: If control command is received from the GIS it

must be approved using the GIS button.
If button is yellow approval is pending.
If button is green GIS is allowed to control MS.

Joystick: Enables/disables the joystick to be used for control.

System Info
The system info panel is located in the bottom-right
corner. Information about angles (pan, tilt, camera
FOV and focus), CPE status (temperature and voltage)
and time is displayed.
SovaN-UserGuide V01.3 ©2017 MELINT

NOTE: DL camera FOV is not represented as an angle on some MS models.

GUI Control
The graphics user interface (GUI) can be controlled using the buttons on the SovaN
panel in the bottom-right corner.

Exit SovaN.

Minimize SovaN to the taskbar.

Move SovaN window to the next monitor.

Panorama

Panorama view with indicator of current MS orientation.

Before the panorama view creation is started MS must be oriented to the middle of
the desired panorama view. On start MS turns to the panorama’s most-left position
and continues to the most-right position while recording and concatenating the
images.

Start the panorama view creation.

Using the track bar thumb MS can be turned to the desired position.

2.2 MS Movement
PanTilt
SovaN-UserGuide V01.3 ©2017 MELINT

Initialize PT unit. Some PT units needs to be initialized after the power cycle. If
this is the case the button is yellow.
If the button is red it means that MS is mounted on the mast which is not on
top. If this is the case MS is not operational.
Move the multisensor PT unit to its home position.

PT movement speed control.

2.3 Thermal camera

Camera/Video
Live picture (green)/freeze picture

Create image from the current view. To open the

screenshots directory right-click the button and
select Open screenshots from the menu.
Thermal camera power on/off. For cameras
with cover it can be controlled by right-
clicking the button and selecting the up/down menu
item.
PiP function.

Synchronized zoom: when zooming on one camera it is synchronized with the

zoom on the second camera.

Zoom/FOV

Zoom to most-wide, middle or most narrow view.

Zoom out (wide), zoom in (narrow).

Electronic/digital zoom: out (wide) or in (narrow).

Focus

Focus near, focus far.

Trigger auto-focus.

Video Tracking

Video Tracking functionality is used to track a moving object on the screen

with a PT unit support.
To initialize the Video Tracker click the Video Tracking button. The button becomes
green and the yellow rectangle appears on the screen.
If tracking is initialized with a mouse the rectangle follows the mouse cursor as long
as it is in the video stream area.
If tracking is initialized using the joystick the rectangle appears in the middle of the
video stream area. To start tracking using only the joystick object must be in the
middle of the video area (in the yellow square).
To start tracking the object click on it with a middle button of the mouse. The
tracking process starts and the yellow square becomes green. If the object is no
longer recognized the square becomes red.
To change the tracking object or to restart the tracking process click with a middle
mouse button on the video area. Rectangle becomes yellow and tracker is ready to
accept no tracking request.

NOTE: When object tracking is not needed turn the video tracker off. The tracking
process requires additional hardware resources and additional video stream from the
camera which leads to higher requirements for the network bandwidth.

NOTE: The same instructions apply to video tracking using DL camera.

Auto Patrol
Using Auto Patrol user can record PT movement and create
path which can be later on played back.

Play selected Auto Patrol path.

Record Auto Patrol path.

Clear selected Auto Patrol path.

Presets
Using Presets user can record current position and some
camera settings into 20 presets which can be later quickly
accessed to move PT to desired position and set camera
settings or to play in a sequence.

Show/hide presets. User can store up to 20 presets per location. To store a

preset user must hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard and double-click

with the left mouse button on an area presenting an empty preset.

When a preset is stored the current picture is shown in a clicked preset area.
To recall a stored preset user must double-click with the left mouse button
on a stored preset.
Start/stop auto patrol using presets. The pause in seconds between each
preset can be set using the numeric up-down control.
Adaptive image masking
Adaptive image masking controls are only available on administration
account and are used for adding, deleting and managing active image masks.
SovaN-UserGuide V01.3 ©2017 MELINT

To add new image mask first press plus sign. First click on the image
generates first edge of the masking square. Second click generates the
second corner and two points define the masking square. Confirm the new
mask with OK or dismiss with X. Mask should always be drawn larger than
the object intended for masking due to systematic inaccuracies. For better
accuracy please input correct distance from camera system to object under
mask settings.
Button for mask settings opens a new window for managing masks and
common mask settings. Settings differ for DL and TH camera.

Mask TAB shows masks by ID, where fine tuning of capture can be made.
Each mask can be enabled or disabled. This does not delete the mask.
Distance from camera to object measured in millimeters. Position X and Y
defines the upper left corner of the square. Zoom range Min defines the
zoom value where the mask starts to show and Zoom range Max defines
where the mask is not visible anymore. If desired mask should be visible at
all zoom levels Min and Mask values should be 65535 and 1 respectably.
UPDATE button updates mask values for selected ID, DELETE button deletes
selected mask from memory. SHOW button sends the system to the pan and
tilt angles of mask capture.
Common TAB manages mask. Change of color should be confirmed with
CONFIRM button.
