Definition of Procedure text
Procedure text is a text that explains/ tells how
to do something, among them are in the form
of manual and tips.
❖ Manual is guide to make you understand
how to do or operate something
❖ Tips is something that will make your job
easier or faster if you follow it
Social Function of Procedure text
❖ It is used to describe how
something is done in sequenced
steps.
❖ To tell how something is
accomplished through sequence
of actions or steps
Generic Structure of Procedure Text
The followings are the generic structure of procedure texts:
1) Goal/aim
This part of the text describes the purpose of doing or
operating something.
2) Materials (not all)
This part describes the materials needed in the process
of doing or operating something.
3) Steps/tips
This part describes the set of instructions in order to
achieve the goal.
Language Features of Procedure Text
1) Using simple present tense.
We use the simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens
regularly
2) Using adverbial of sequence or using temporal adjective.
We use the sequence adverbs to describe the order in which two or more actions happen. For
example first, second, the last, etc.)
3) Using imperative sentences or command.
Imperative sentences are used to issue a command or instruction, make a request, or offer
advice.
4) Using action verbs.
An action verb is a verb that expresses physical or mental action. For example turn, put, cut,
etc.
5) Using conjunctions to link a process to another process.
Some of the conjunctions that show a sequence of process here are such as then, after that,
etc.
