arranged shuttle for our safe reach to IGH and farmer's guest
house.

1. INSTRUCTIONAL POULTRY FARM

 Reached at 9:42 am where we gathered information like

different species of foul used for breeding, rearing etc.

 - Uttara was the first variety of Uttarakhand; it is distributed in

kumaon region.
 Many different species like safed cornice, RIR, coloumbian and
many more were kept and reared.

Information like their egg laying capacity, feeding capacity, weight

gaining ability.

 We also learnt about the feeding habits, feeding material,

vaccination kit, and artificial insemination kit used for their
safe reproduction process.
The discussions also covered the cage system and deep litter
system. For the cage system, we learned about how individual
chickens are caged and fed in order to enhance the quality of egg.
2.INSTRUCTIONAL DAIRY FARM

In this session, we learned that cattle were kept in separate

groups based on their age, which aids in easy identification.

We also learned how to manage cattle for their milk extraction

and the use of their dung for vermicomposting and manure.

Fair example of tagging the animals were seen at the farm. Proper
disease management and vaccination is done at regular intervals
of time.

The center at which cattles are kept for extracting the milk. It was
clean and kept sanitized to prevent the infection to cattle.
Artificial insemination process is also done to ensure the good
productivity of milk and desirable characters in the calf.

After collecting so much valuable knowledge on dairy farm we

moved to seed processing unit

3 . Seed processing unit

 Nearly 12 pm we reached at the unit where the incharge of

the area guided us.
 We all students were amazed to see large storage tanks
when sir told us that they have the capacity of storing 240
quintal/ hr seeds.
 He told us that moisture lays a very important role in
storage of seeds. In case of paddy crop it requires 12%
moisture during packing and 16% in storage.
 Belt conveyor used for the easy transportation of seeds from
the storage tanks or to the storage tanks. The operator of
the unit told us about the working of seed drying machine.
 We came to know about the air seed cleaner. Which is used
to preclean the seeds from dust and physical impurities.

 We visited the site and saw the whole running process.

 It was very helpful in understanding the procedure of
making a certified seed.
 He told us about the procedure how breeder seeds then
foundation seed and then certified seeds are made.
 The certified seed are sold and default seed is send back to
be proceed.
4 .College of Fisheries
We reached at 2:39 pm .

 The professor took a lecture where he told us about the

establishment of college of fisheries in 1985.
 Area - 12.5 hectare of college of fisheries, pant nagar . It
has 56 ponds . In pant nagar only 6 species of fish are
used for seed production.
 He also told us that one kg of fish requires 1000 L of
water to grow but due to technology it has been
enhanced to 100 kg of fish.
 Food conversion ratio determines the good quality of fish.
It helps them in converting their food efficiently and
obtained energy.
 The potential of producing 27,000 per year of fish is not
achieved due to poor resource and it lead to 6000 per
year of fish.
 He also mentioned the scope of fisheries that low risk,
good returns, high economic profits.
Then we moved to the area where fishes were cultured.

Fish species –TROUT

1. It is a exotic species.
2. Winter spanner
3. Rich source of Omega -3
4. Not allowed in natural water body
5. It is a cold water fish.
MAHASHEIR

It is a native of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Uttarakhand.

It can tolerate wide range of temperature.

Fish seed hatchery

They make a pair of good male and female fish for inducing
breeding.

Desirable characters are seen and then low follicle stimulating

hormone injection is given which increases the ovulation.

Then the male sperm fertilize the female egg .

Hatching is done in 18 to 21 hrs ( egg ~ sperm baby ) eg: Rohu fish

take 21 hrs of hatching .
5. HONEY BEE RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTER
We reached at 3: 11 pm. A large area of about 90 acres in which
bee keeping is handled.

 Honey bee research and training centre is located in sub

tropical zone in Tarai region.
 Aim - to accommodate bee products, quality bee stock and
quality control of honey, value addition in bee products and
processing and role of insects pollinator for the sake of
additional income generation to the farmers and to enhance
biodiversity in the state to improve agricultural yield.

 The care taker of bee hives showed us the bee box and
queen bee present in a single box.
 Achievement - production and marketing of different types
of honey that is litchi honey mustard honey sunflower
honey etc.
 Production and processing of other b products like pollen
wax propolis and royal jelly
 stingless be keeping with honey production and marketing
 mobilization on the importance of beekeeping through
training
Day 2 - 4 July 2023

1 . Horticulture research centre , Patharchatta

We reached their at 9:42 am. Here we got to know about their

work on vegetable, fruits, flower but mainly dealing with fruit
crops like mango, guava, dragon fruit, plum and pear.

The honorable professor told us about 263 germplasm of mango

found in HRC.

Mango

 Commercial variety - Langra, Chausa, Dushehri .

 The commercial varieties do not have their man made
seedlings.
 Propagation time - 15 nov to mid December
 Soil type - clayey loam, alluvial soil with good organic matter.
This type of soil is not good for citrus plant. They also have a
good water table.
 Grafting technique: usually mango links are grafted using
top and wedge grafting method.
 Base of scion is cut into a wedge shape. The top section of
the rootstock is removed and a vertical cut made into the
stem around the depth of the wedge.

 Rejuvenation - it is done to improve the floral growth in

mango, it also take care of no pest infestation.
 Process - 1st year : rejuvenate the plant

2nd year: no fruits on the tree

3rd year : fruits appear on tree

Evaluation of dragon fruit in Tarai region

1. Also known as kamalam .

2. They are mainly grown in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh.
3. They have antioxidant properties
4. Training system:
 He told us about the spacing used in planting dragon fruit 2
X 2 m. 3 varieties found in dragon fruit were:
 Pink skin - white flesh
 Yellow skin - white flesh
 Pink skin - red flesh
 The major problem in dragon fruit was sunburn which
makes their skin cranky and make it economically less
valuable. The solution to sunburn was shading the plants.

Banana

Peach

As we know that they are temperate fruit but they are grown in
sub tropical regions with low chilling variety " kala Amritsari" .
