basic service procedures inherent to the industry, and more specifically Yamaha Products, are already known and understood by
the users, and have therefore not been restated.
WARNING: Failure to follow appropriate service and safety procedures when servicing this product may result in personal
injury, destruction of expensive components and failure of the product to perform as specified. For these
reasons, we advise all Yamaha product owners that all service required should be performed by an authorized
Yamaha Retailer or the appointed service representative.
IMPORTANT: This presentation or sale of this manual to any individual or firm does not constitute authorization, certification,
recognition of any applicable technical capabilities, or establish a principal-agent relationship of any form.
The data provided is belived to be accurate and applicable to the unit(s) indicated on the cover. The research engineering, and
service departments of Yamaha are continually striving to improve Yamaha products. Modifications are, therefore, inevitable and
changes in specification are subject to change without notice or obligation to retrofit. Should any discrepancy appear to exist,
please contact the distributor's Service Division.
WARNING: Static discharges can destroy expensive components. Discharge any static electricity your body may have
accumulated by grounding yourself to the ground bus in the unit (heavy gauge black wires connect to this bus).
IMPORTANT: Turn the unit OFF during disassembly and parts replacement. Recheck all work before you apply power to the
unit.
WARNING
Components having special characteristics are marked and must be replaced with parts having specification equal to those
originally installed.

If the main SDRAM alone is defective, then “– ” will be displayed.
If the tone SDRAM alone is defective, then “ – ” will be displayed.
(Main SDRAM: 4th column Tone SDRAM: 3rd column)
• Function
1. This checks the condition of all RAM connected to the CPU bus (simple check).
· Address bus check
For all addresses when only one address bus is High, “FFh” will be written to each address, and “00h” to all other addresses.
After data write, data is checked for all addresses defined for check. This check is executed for all addresses defined for check.
· Data bus check
For all addresses when all address buses are “0”, a check will be executed to confirm that data can be written and read while
each bus is switched to High.
• Display
1. “ ” displays on the MDR 7-segment LED after “ ” displayed on it.
2. If check results show a defective disk, the TEMPO LED will display “– – – –”.
3. If check results are OK, the TEMPO LED will display “ ”.
* Before finishing this check, it takes about twenty seconds.
• Function
1. Tests floppy disk read/write.
2. Test details

• Function
1. Executes a checksum operation for all ROM connected to the CPU bus (simple check). 8 bits are added to the data for all address
defined as (addresses where any one of A2 to A18 is High) + n, and address n, and the results are compared to the data for the last
address - 7 + n to make sure they are identical.
This check is executed for n=0 to 3.
• Display
1. If check results are OK, the TEMPO LED will display “ ”
2. If check results are no good, the TEMPO LED will display “– – – –”.
