Useful Calculator Programmes✍

(Applicable to CASIO fx-50FH / CASIO fx-50FH II)

1 Cubic equations

It is the programme slot you would like to put the programme into.
Remember not to select slots which already contain programmes.

(Source: Our Lady’s College)

Example:
Factorize 6𝑥 + 5𝑥 − 13𝑥 − 12
Inputs:
Prog 3 (programme slot)
6 EXE 5 EXE -13 EXE -12 EXE
It should show the roots (Press EXE for the next root):
1.5 ( ), -1 and -1.33( )

∴6𝑥 + 5𝑥 − 13𝑥 − 12 = (𝑥 + 1)(3𝑥 + 4)(2𝑥 − 3)

Note that
“Maths error” means that the root is not a linear root (e.g. 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐).
Usually, this method can at least find one linear root. To factorize the
polynomial, long division is needed.

2 Four centres of a triangle

It is the programme slot you would like to put the programme into.

Example:
Find centroid, orthocentre, circumcentre and incentre of a triangle with
coordinates: (0,0), (0,60) and (96, 48)
Inputs: 𝑎 + 𝑏𝑖 for 𝑎 is the x-coordinate and 𝑏 is the y-coordinate.
Prog 3 (programme slot)
0 EXE 60 i EXE 96+48 i EXE
It should show the x-coordinates of the four centres respectively
(Press SHIFT EXE for the y-coordinates):
Centroid: (32, 36)
Orthocentre: (6, 48)
Circumcentre: (45, 30)
Incentre: (21.81…, 35.29…)

Solve
𝑥−𝑦 =1
Inputs:
Prog 3 (programme slot
𝑥+𝑦=7
1 EXE 1 EXE 7 EXE
1 EXE -1 EXE 1 EXE 𝑥−𝑦 =1

It should show the solutions (𝑥 followed by 𝑦, press EXE for 𝑦):

𝑥 = 4, 𝑦 = 3
