Honoured friends, supporters and members of the FINA Family, it is my privilege to welcome you to the
15th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Abu Dhabi 2021.

Thiseditionofourflagshipbiennialshort-courseChampionshipsisanespeciallyexcitingoccasion
usbecauseitincorporatesanAquaticsFestivalfeaturing,forthefirsttimeever,theFINAdisciplin
diving, high diving and open water swimming, as we work towards our goal of giving all of our disciplines
an equal platform.

WiththeadditionoftheFINAHighDivingQualifier,theFINADivingExhibition,aswellastheFINA/
CNSGMarathonSwimWorldSeriesandaninnovativeOpenWaterSwimMixedRelay,Iamconfident
thisAquaticsFestivalwillprovehugelypopularwithourathletes,thesportsfansandthewider
community.

I want to thank our friends at Abu Dhabi 2021, the Organizing Committee, led by Abu Dhabi Sports
Council, for working with us to stage a milestone Championships that will make this possible.

TheUnitedArabEmiratesarehostingourprestigiousshort-courseshowcaseforthesecondtime,aft
successful edition in 2010 in Dubai.

forwardtoseeingtheiconicEtihadArenatransformedbytheinstallationofatemporary25mpoolint
a venue capable of hosting what I’m sure will be unforgettable performances by athletes from all around
the world.

Thismomentrepresentstheculminationofasuccessfulfive-yearpartnershipbetweenAbuDhabiSpor

In the intervening years, we have hosted a number of FINA World Cup events which have helped to drive
engagementandinterestinaquaticslocally,allbuildingtowardsthismoment–hostingtheFINAWor
SwimmingChampionships(25m)fortheveryfirsttime.

I’dliketothankourpartnersatFINA,ledbyCaptainHusainAl-Musallam,fortheirsupportandvision

IspeakonbehalfofthewholecommunitywhenIsaythatweareincrediblyexcitedtowitness

Championships mark the largest in FINA’s history in terms of athlete participation.

Athletesandspectatorsalikearebeinghostedinatrulyworld-classvenue–theinnovativeEti
whichopeneditsdoorsinJanuary21.A0 specialthanksgoestoMiralandYasIsland-ourcollaboration
hasallowedustotransformtheMENAregion’slargeststate-of-the-artindoorentertainment
establishmentintoapurpose-builtswimmingvenue.

Andofcourse,itisnotonlyinsidetheArenathatouroperationshavebeenfocused-withtheaddit
of the Aquatics Festival (featuring high diving, diving and open water swimming disciplines) to the
schedule,a7m 2 highdivetowerhasbeenbuiltintothewaterofYasBay,adjacenttoEtihadArena,along
with three spring diving boards. The end result is truly spectacular!

While the aquatics action is plentiful, I encourage spectators to enjoy the wealth of entertainment
taking place over the course of the event on dry land! This includes the Market Street which features a
combinationoftraditionalheritagedisplays,interactivebrandexhibitions,retailstalls,F&Bo
live entertainment.

Finally,I’dliketoextendmythanksandsincerecongratulationstotheUAESwimmingFederation,who
have done a done a fantastic job of developing the sport of swimming in the country, nurturing our local
talent, engaging the wider community and helping us to create a legacy for the event in the region.

Over the past years, Abu Dhabi has successfully hosted international events of the highest level and has
subsequentlygrowntobecomeacapitalofsportintheMiddleEast,andamajorhostdestinationon
global level.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council continues to showcase its ability to organize and host global events of the
highest caliber, gaining the trust of international sports federations around the world. I have no doubt
that the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) will be another successful milestone on Abu
Dhabi’s sporting calendar.

In October, we hosted the Arab Swimming Championships welcoming 174 swimmers from 17 countries
from across the region to compete. We are now ready to welcome global, regional and local swimming
stars from over 180 countries around the world, at the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).

Ahead of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m),Abu Dhabi Sports Council,
inpartnershipwithNationalHealthInsuranceCompany–DamanandtheUAE
Swimming Federation, launched a series of community initiativesacross Abu Dhabi
and Dubai, free for the whole community to join.
RunningthroughoutNovemberandDecember,numerousworkshopsonWaterSafety
Awareness were delivered in a bid to educate children and those in authoritative
positions on swimming safely. The workshops cover essential points:

Identifying Assessing How to use the Prevention and Identifying
