Rock Climbing Clubs and Walls in Bristol

The Avon Mountaineering club meets every first Tuesday of the month at 8 pm. They welcome both experienced and beginner climbers and mountaineers. They climb in areas like the Avon Gorge, Wye Valley, and other local indoor and outdoor locations throughout the year. The Bristol Climbing Centre, also known as Undercover Rock, is located in the fifteenth century Church of St. Werburgh's in Bristol. It has over 150 climbing routes ranging from beginner to advanced on its 12 meter high walls with pillars, fins, overhangs and arches. The centre provides climbing instruction and opportunities for indoor climbing.

Climbing Provision

1. Find a local rock climbing club (i.e. Avon, Bristol, Bath, Cheddar) and answer the following questions: Avon Mountaineering club a) What is the club called? Avon Mountaineering club b) Where and how often does the club meet? Existing members meet every first Tuesday of the month at 8 pm. c) How do you join? If you are a new climber, mountaineer or walker and thinking about joining the club then please come along to meet us at the pub to decide if its the club for you. d) Are beginners welcome? Yes you are welcome to join. e) Describe some of the areas where the club climbs? Avon Gorge, Wye Valley and local area throughout the year as well as indoors at Undercover Rock. 2. Find a local climbing wall / centre (Bristol, Swindon, Gloucestershire ) and answer the following: Undercover Rock What is the wall - Built within the fifteenth century Church of St.Werburghs, the Bristol Climbing Centre is one the most comprehensive indoor climbing facilities in the country. Awarded 'Regional Centre of Excellence' status by the Sports Council, the centre's facilities offer something for everyone from the complete beginner through to top level competition climbers. The church provides a unique atmosphere for the spectacular 12 metre high climbing walls, pillars, fins, overhangs and arches. We aim to provide imaginative and exciting climbing in a safe and welcoming environment for anyone who would like to experience the thrill of this exciting sport. We have over 150 routes from F3 to F8a and above which are regularly changed by a team of experienced route setters.
