Transformer.
B Safety Precaution:

 Avoid direct contact to lived/ hot circuit.

 The floor where the works is occurred must be covered by rubber material carpet.
 Take all conductive material from our body, such as; watch, rings, necklace,
bracelet.
 All test equipments can’t be left by in live/energized condition although just for a
while.
 All testing and inspection must be performed by qualified personnel, and in
conformance with normal electric safely practice
C Job Plan/ Procedure

C.1 Preparation
1. Prepare all working tools, PPE and other tools used in this maintenance activity.
Check the completeness and functionality of these tools; they must be in good
condition.
2. Prepare all working documents that used in this maintenance activity.
3. Conduct a safety talk before doing any maintenance activity.
4. Arrange work permit with the authority to have access for this intervention.
5. Ask the authority to have the equipment under maintenance in shutdown condition

C.2 Maintenance Operation

a. Eliminating deterioration in electrical or mechanical condition affecting

operational performance or becoming a safety hazard.

b. Inspect and maintain the integrity of all:

i. Inspect Terminal boxes for cleanliness, corrosion, gasket, and
containment of live electrical parts and appropriate protection from the
environment.
ii. Inspect Terminal connections for mechanical strength, overheating,
corrosion and insulation from adjacent terminals and the case.
iii. Inspect Cable terminations for approved method, adequate tightness and
correct torque (where applicable).
iv. Inspect Insulators for mechanical strength, cracks, deposits of moisture,
oily and dirty.
v. Inspect tank (N2) pressure, min 2 PSI, max 5 PSI
vi. Inspect the conservator oil/liquid level.
vii. Inspect the marshalling cubicle for physical condition and operation
condition.
viii. Inspect valve operation from corrosion, damage, and padlocked.
ix. Inspect the cooling system, and control. Check the corrosion sign, noise,
rotation, moisture, and also electrical problem in control.
x. Inspect transformer bushing from dirt and dust.
xi. Inspect Cable restraints, for example, glands.
xii. Inspect Transformer tank, radiator from corrosion, damage, dusty, dirty.

c. Inspect and maintain the integrity of the electrical safety bonding with the
designated common grounding point on the equipment and, the electrical safety
bond with the facility.
d. Perform the inspection of transformer electrical protective devices such as
Bucholz, Temperature Sensor, Pressure Sensor etc and load tap changer.
e. Perform test of Transformer winding Polarization Index (PI) service to determine
the overall winding insulation resistance using rated electrical megger. Record the
value of 1-minute and 10-minute insulation with cables and without cables.
Polarization Index is Risol 10 minute divided by 1 minute and the value must be
>2.
f. Perform test of transformer winding insulation resistance measurement for HV
winding to ground, LV winding to Ground, HV winding to LV winding to
determine the individual winding coil insulation resistance using 5KV electrical
megger measurements. The insulation value must be >(Un+1) Mohm (Un in KV
Std : NEMA MGI-1987 part 20). If the transformer fitted with a tank ground
protection, disconnect the ground cable. Perform as well the insulation
measurement of tank to local auxiliary board, tank to local tap changer, tank to
ground system. Record the value in maintenance report form. Reconnect the
grounding cable to the tank.
g. Check pressure/vacuum gauge for maintaining the integrity of the sealed
construction. High pressure indicates overload or internal trouble. A zero pressure
reading indicates the leak.
h. Check and record temperature gauge for indication of overheating.
i. Check liquid filled transformer and maintain liquid level
j. Perform dielectric oil test to determine the condition of insulation oil for dielectric
strength, sludge content and acidity number. Take samples of the oil from
location where the oil is supposed to be the most contaminated, e.g. from the
bottom of the tank then slowly pour the test cell of the liquid dielectric tester. Oil
dielectric strength should be :

1. . New oil : 50 kv / 2.5 mm for 1 minute

2. . Old oil : 30 kv / 2.5 mm for 1 minute

k. Perform dielectric oil filtering or replacement based on the result of dielectric

tests as necessary.
l. Before handed over this transformer to the authority, we must check again all the
electrical and mechanical connection.
m. After finishing the maintenance tasks ask supervisor to sign the job card and
maintenance report.
