THE MILLENNIUM SCHOOL

STD : X SUBJECT - PHYSICS

CHAPTER – 9, 10, 11 WORKSHEET

1. An object is placed 15 cm in front of a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm.

Where is the image is formed?

2. Where should an object be placed in front of a convex lens to get real

image of the size of the object?

3. What is splitting of white light into its component colors called?

4. What is spectrum?

5. When length of wire is doubled. How much the resistance will increase or
decrease?

6. Why Sky appears dark to astronaut?

7. Compare the conductivity of metals and non-metals? Why only alloys are
used in heating devices?

8. An object is placed at a distance of 20 cm in front of a convcave mirror of

focal length 15 cm. Write four characteristics of the image formed by the
mirror.

9. Light enters from air into diamond which has a refractive index of 2.42.
Calculate the speed of light in diamond. The speed of light in air is
m/s.

10. A doctor has prescribed a corrective lens of power 1.5 D. Find the focal
length of this lens. Is the prescribed lens diverging or converging.

11. a) What is the focal length of a plane mirror?

12. How many images are formed by two parallel mirrors?

13. Name the mirrors that can give an erect and enlarged image of an object.
14. An object 1 cm high produces a real image 1.5 cm high, when placed at a
distance of 15 cm from concave minor. Calculate the position of the image.

15. a) Name the device/instrument used to check the flow of current,

measure of current and measure of potential difference. How are these
connected in an electric circuit?

16. Which alloy is used to make the element of electric heater & why?

17. a) A person needs a lens of power 0.5 diopter for correcting his vision.
Name the defect of vision he is suffering from. Which lens will he be using for
the correction? Also, find the focal length of lens. b) When you enter from a
bright sunshine into a dark room, you are not able to see clearly for
sometimes, why?

18. Explain Myopia and hypermetropia with help of diagram.

19. State the connection of resistances 2 ohm, 4 ohm, 3 ohm such a way that
equivalent resistance is (i) 2 ohm (ii) 13/3 ohm?

20. (a) Define electrical energy with S.I. unit?

(b) A house hold uses the following electric appliance;

(i) Refrigerator of rating 400w for ten hour each day.

(ii) Two electric fans of rating 80w each for twelve hours each day.

(iii) Six electric tubes of rating 18w each for 6hours each day.

Calculate the electricity bill of the household for the month of June if the cost
per unit of electric energy is Rs. 3.00.

21. What are the advantages of connecting electrical devices in parallel with
the battery instead of connecting them in series?

22. Should the heating element of an electric iron be made of iron, silver or
nichrome wire? Justify giving three reasons?

23. (a) Define electric resistance of a conductor?

(b) A wire of length L and resistance R is stretched so that its length is double
and the area of cross section is halved. How will its

(i) resistance change (ii) resistivity change?

24. Why do stars twinkle, and planets do not twinkle.

25. Two or more resistances are connected in series or in parallel or both,

depending upon whether we want to increase or decrease the circuit
resistance.

The two or more resistances are said to be connected in series if the current
flowing through each resistor is the same.

i. When the three resistors each of resistance R ohm are connected in

series then what will be the equivalent resistance?

ii. There is a wire of length 20 cm and having resistance 20 Ω cut into 4

equal pieces and then joined in series. What is equivalent resistance?

iii. In the following circuit, find the equivalent resistance between A and
B (R = 2Ω)

iv. In the given circuit, what is the current in each resistor?

26. A convex lens has a focal length of 10 cm. At what distance from the lens
should the object be placed so that it forms a real and inverted image 20 cm.
away from the lens? What would be the size of the image formed if the object
is 2 cm high? With the help of a ray diagram show the formation of the image
by the lens in this case?

27. We mostly read in newspaper, that few students went for picnic, but
while boating one or two drowned in river. Situation below can be the reason
for this.

Situation- while boating with parents, a child saw a beautiful fish in the river
or lake. He/she tried to catch it, thinking that it is very closer to him/her. But
situation became worse when he/she drowned in the river/lake instead of
catching it Name the phenomenon that shows the apparent position of fish,
explain it. What precautionary measures you will suggest while boating.

28. Assertion (A): As light travels from one medium to another, the frequency
of light does not change.

Reason (R): Because frequency is the characteristic of source.

a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true but R is false.
d) A is false but R is true.

29. Assertion (A): A virtual image cannot be photographed.

Reason (R): Only real objects are photographed.

a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true but R is false.
d) A is false but R is true.
