WORKSHEET :1

CHAPTER: LIGHT -REFLECTION AND REFRACTION [MIRRORS]

Q1. An object is kept at a distance of 5 cm in front of a convex mirror of focal length 10 cm. Calculate the
position and magnification of the image and state its nature.
Q2 If an object 10 cm high is placed at a distance of 36 cm from a concave mirror of focal length 12 cm.
Find the position, nature and height of the image.
Q3. The image of an object placed 16 cm. from a concave mirror is formed at a distance of 24cm from the
mirror. Calculate the possible focal lengths of the concave mirror.
Q4. When a concave mirror is placed facing the sun, the sun rays converge to a point 15 cm from the mirror.
Now an erect 2 cm long pin is placed 30 cm away on the principal axis of the mirror. Where should a card be
placed so that the image of the pin can be taken on the card? What would be the nature and height of the
image?
Q5. An object 40cm high is placed at a distance of 25cm in front of a convex mirror of focal length 15cm. At
what distance from the mirror should a screen be placed in order to obtain a sharp image find the nature and
size of image. Also draw the ray diagram.
Q6. An object 4cm in size is placed 25cm in front of a concave mirror of focal length 15cm.At what distance
from the mirror should a screen be placed m a convex mirror of focal length 15cm. Give location of image
and its magnification.
Q8. Draw the following diagram in which a ray of light is incident on a concave/convex mirror, on your answer sheet.
Show the path of this ray, after reflection, in each case.

Q9. A spherical mirror produces an image of magnification -1 on a screen placed at a distance of 40 cm from the
mirror.
(i) Write type of mirror.
(ii) What is the nature of the image formed?
(iii) How far is the object located from the mirror?
(iv) Draw the ray diagram to show the image formation in this case.
Q10. a) Define the following terms in the context of spherical mirrors:
(i) Pole
(ii) Centre of curvature
(iii) Principal axis
(iv) Principal focus
(b) Draw ray diagrams to show the principal focus of a
(i) Concave mirror (ii) Convex mirror
(c) Consider the following diagram in which M is a mirror and P is an object and Q is its magnified image formed by
the mirror.
