ESSAY ON HUMANIZATION IN NURSING STAFF

INTRODUCTION

This present essay presents the analysis of the care that is delivered by nurses in
the different areas of professional development, at the Hospital de las Culturas de
San Cristóbal de las Casas; Chiapas located on Boulevard Javier López Moreno;
Fátima neighborhood S/N; where we will cover the value of humanized care for
nursing and how this is viewed by the staff, especially in the Emergency
Department; since it is necessary in all areas to provide quality care to our users
who demand this service. Therefore, it is highlighted that humanized care, more
than providing good treatment or just satisfaction on the part of the user, is about
the other person who needs to be cared for; In this way the nursing team grows
together with the user and their family, focusing on the person. Making known the
criticism or opinion of how the staff of this institution interprets or views it
personally, since as we know each nurse gives the importance to their user as they
believe it should be. Finally we will give a small conclusion of the problem that has
arisen.
Given the risk of dehumanization in patient care, which occurs in the Hospital of
Cultures, especially in the adult emergency service, which has presented an
average index through the users surveyed, who mention not having humanism,
nurses by not providing efficient care; This is why it is necessary to rescue the
human, spiritual aspect in clinical, administrative, educational and research
practice by nursing professionals. This aspect is key in relation to the current way
of delivering nursing care, especially in my Institution, the Hospital of Cultures,
where there is concern about the inclusion of care management and other topics
that are still relevant to practice. nursing professional, which is why the center of
the task has been left aside: the person, the individual, the user, the patient, the
client or whatever the “human being” is called. It is important then to define the
concept of person; According to Watson, it is “a being in the world, as a unity of
mind, body and spirit, which conceptually experiences and perceives the gestalt, is
1
the locus of human existence and the subject of nursing care.” This person
demands commitment, dedication, respect, and it is the responsibility of the
nursing professional to care for them. It is this aspect that provokes controversies:
How could we care for an individual, forgetting their humanity? Think about
dehumanized care, caring without empathy, without respect, without the affection
with which the other should be cared for, forgetting that they are the center of
nursing work. Management is important to organize care with sufficient resources,
but it is not everything for nursing. Another aspect that distances nursing from
“humanized care” is technology, that is, the relevance given by nursing
professionals to the techniques, procedures and supervisions or other relevant and
important aspects of their work, but which do not They replace dedication and
affection towards patients, these two aspects must be complementary and not
contrary. Many studies indicate that clients value more aspects of care that are
related to effective communication, affection, and the attention given to them within
hospitals, but nurses do not all obviously give a lot of importance to technology,
among others. More technology makes care seem better. The nursing team strives
to improve the management of ventilators, catheters, monitors and lacks
preparation to care; No one disagrees that one prepares more every day than is
done to provide better service to our users, but unfortunately many forget about
that part and prepare only with the objective of competing to see who has the best
knowledge, or To advance in a better position than the one you have. Are we
taking the wrong path? It is good to rely on technology, but without forgetting the
center of the task: the person.
The humanization of care requires time, resources, good intergroup relationships
and commitment of the institution, which in this case is nursing. This does not
mean that providing humanized care costs more money, but rather that it is
necessary to invest in it and “manage” the resources in a better way to be able to
hire more staff, set up the services to provide personalized attention to the user
and their family. , by incorporating other important aspects into their care. The area
of training is another important point to comment on in this essay, since the way of
training will mark the future professional in terms of care. According to there are
characteristics that the people who provide care must have or possess, there are
also numerous documents that guide nursing to deliver “humanized care.” The
“professional caregiver” must possess some special characteristics such as:
communication and listening skills, respect for the beliefs of others, dedication,
ethical commitment and human warmth. What makes the difference between
providing nursing care and humanized care. These relevant characteristics are not
fully developed in nursing professionals, so the question is what is being done
about it? Here the training provided to nursing students becomes important; This is
why nurses dedicated to training must be models for their students, leaders in
human care, both for users and for themselves. The training model is focused on
the care of recoverable patients or those with possibilities of rehabilitation, students
prepare to “succeed” with their care; In this sense, nurses are not trained to care
for the dying, and provide care for the patient's well-being; This preparation not
only requires care professionals, but also requires philosophical and psychological
training.
With the above, it can be seen that it is not only important to invest in human
resources in health services, in structuring hospitals, but we must also work on the
training of future nurses, who understand the importance of humanized care for the
patient, the improvement of internal and external user satisfaction, and the work
that must be done with teachers to be examples of training. Future professionals
must be clear that the only way to know the impact that nursing care produces is
through the investigation. In addition, generating new knowledge gives nursing
greater professional autonomy. Humanized care is more than good treatment or
user satisfaction, it is that “the other” needs to be cared for and by carrying it out
the nursing team and the user obtain fruits, not only the patient and their family
receive but also the professional and the patient. team that delivers care, you learn
and grow together with them. We understand that this Human perspective is useful
for all areas of development of the nursing professional, not only for the healthcare
area. In management it is very important since it indicates the best way to organize
resources in order to deliver human care. Regarding healthcare, he raises two
points.
Transcendent: changing the biomedical perspective, to attend to the other,
respecting them as a person, looking at them and understanding them. Finally,
there is the feeling that nursing still has a lot to do and improve, that the
commitment will continue to be arduous and laborious, but nursing has not been
easy and all the professionals who form this discipline have enough strength to do
their job. something important without leaving aside our core: the human person.
All of this is a great responsibility for each nurse, who dedicates their care to their
users with love, dedication and respect; But each person takes care of their
patients in the way they believe is correct, forgetting humanism, believing that by
behaving distant and cold the patient will not complain of pain, nor will he express
his feelings and doubts that afflict him in his life. stay.
It is sad to see how colleagues do not give the importance that their profession
should have, when it is assumed that they are prepared to provide humanized care
and only worry or focus on their individual preparation and that they become more
selfish; In the emergency department it is seen that there is inequality in care; that
if it is a person without money who comes to request the service, they must be
treated with the best possible care and when it is a person of low resources, who
does not speak or understand Spanish, ignorantly they are given terrible quality
attention. When it is assumed that this does not fall into the requirements of
humanized care, nursing must look after the life of its patient, since we are not only
caregivers but also watchers of life.

CONCLUSIONS

Humanized care is something that is still unknown by the nursing staff in the
different areas or services of the hospital of the cultures; Therefore, it is important
to work hard with the entire institution regardless of whether some practice it with
their users to reinforce the humanism that many have lost and others are at risk of
doing so. Focusing with the heads and supervisors of each area to provide
sessions that motivate nursing staff with interesting topics that draw attention to
humanized care; and remember the values that a nurse must have with equality in
all users; who demand the emergency service every day, providing them with
quality, efficient, effective care so that it leads to effectiveness, motivating reflection
and discussion among Nursing professionals on the topic of humanization and its
relationship with their daily work, What is caring like ? not forgetting the quality
standards and quality indicators such as the indicator, on the dignified treatment
that our users served in this institution must have.
