In 1978, a serial child abductor nicknamed

"The Grabber" prowls the streets of a Denver

suburb.

Siblings Finney and Gwen Blake live in the

area with their alcoholic and abusive father.

At school, Finney is frequently bullied, he

has a friendship with a classmate, Robin, who

defends himself against bullies.

1
A boy from another school that Finney knew,

Bruce, is kidnapped by Grabber. Gwen, on the

other hand, has psychic dreams very similar to

her late mother. He dreams about Bruce's

kidnapping and sees a man taking him away

in a black van with black balloons.

Detectives Wright and Miller interview Gwen,

but have a hard time believing her claims.

2
Grabber's psychopath kidnaps Robin, as well

as Finney days later.

Finney wakes up in a soundproof basement.

On the wall is an unplugged black phone that

Grabber says doesn't work.

Later, Finney hears the phone ringing and

answers it.

The ghost of Bruce, unable to remember his

own name or who he was when he was alive.

He tells Finney about a tile he can remove to

dig a tunnel and escape.

The police search for Finney is unsuccessful.

The Grabber brings Finney food and leaves

the basement door open.

6
Finney prepares to sneak out, but is stopped

on the phone by another boy named Billy.

Bully explains to Finney that this is a game

that Grabber always plays.

And he is waiting for him sitting upstairs, to

attack him with a belt if he leaves the

basement.

7
8
After Billy explained to him what Grabber

was going to do with him if he came up.

Finney closed the door and picked up the

phone to continue talking to Billy.

Billy instructs him to use a cable he found to

climb out the basement window.

9
Finney followed the instructions given to him,

found the cable and proceeded to tie it to the

bars of the window, but it did not help him

much because it did not withstand his weight,

which prevents him from escaping.

While Gwen, Finney's sister, dreams that Billy

is kidnapped and tells her father what is

happening, but her father does not believe her

10
because he thinks she is crazy, like her

mother.

Wright and Miller talk to an eccentric man

named Max who is staying at the kidnapper's

home.

It is revealed that Finney is being held in

Max's basement, which he is unaware of, and

Grabber is his brother.

11
After a heated exchange with Grabber, where

he tests Finney's honesty, he makes it seem

like he's let him off the hook.

Finney speaks on the phone with another

victim of Gabber's dementia, Griffin.

Griffin shows Finney the combination to a

lock and informs him that Grabber has fallen

12
asleep, which is when he has another chance

to escape.

Finney sneaks up and opens the door, but

Grabber's dog alerts him to Finney's escape,

but unfortunately he is recaptured.

Dejected by his failed escape attempt, Finney

answers the phone to listen to another victim,

13
a thug named Vance whom he had been afraid

of.

Vance informs Finney of a connected storage

room, which he can escape from by opening a

hole in the wall and exiting through the

freezer on the other side of the wall.

14
Finney creates a hole with the toilet tank lid

and enters the back of the freezer, only to

discover that the freezer door is locked.

The phone rings once again with Robin on the

end of the line, he comforts Finney and

encourages him to finally stand up and fight

for himself. He instructs Finney to remove

15
the phone receiver and pack it with the dirt he

had dug up to use as a weapon.

Gwen dreams of Vance's kidnapping and

discovers the Grabber's ownership. Find the

house and contact the detectives.

Max realizes that Finney is being held in the

house and runs to the basement to free him.

16
Finney tries to tell Max that his brother is after

him with an axe, but Max didn't understand

what he was saying and that's when his

brother kills him.

The police rush to the house Gwen found in

her dream, but discover it is empty. The

agents begin to investigate the place, search

17
the basement and find the buried bodies of the

Grabber victims.

While the cops were looking for Finney in the

wrong house, Grabber attacks Finney with the

axe. The boy manages to trip Grabber on the

rope, causing him to fall into the tunnel he had

been digging.

18
When that fall happens, Grabber breaks it and

gets his ankle stuck in the window bars placed

at the bottom.

The ghosts taunt Grabber over the phone

before he snaps his neck and kills him.

Finney distracts the guard dog with meat from

the freezer and escapes the house using the

combination he learned.

19
Finney leaves the house across the street from

the graves where he reunites with Gwen and

the police rush to the property.

The brothers console each other until their

father arrives. When he appears, he tells them

how sorry he is for the bad treatment he gave

them and apologizes to them.

End
