TO

FLAG BEARER .

Officer designated to carry the War Flag of a Unit.

SUPPLY .

Logistics function that includes calculating needs, obtaining, storing and


distributing items of all kinds.

CIVIC ACTION .

Set of activities carried out by the Armed Forces at the national, regional and
local levels, participating in the social, cultural and economic development of the
country, in actions concurrent with its main security mission, which contribute to
strengthening the fundamental principles of nationality and the union between
the people and the Armed Forces.

DISTINGUISHED ACTION .

Act carried out by a military officer in service, beyond the limits of strict
compliance with duty, whether in the act of arms, in defense of territorial
integrity, in defense of the tutelary institutions of the Republic or in the
maintenance of social order.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ACTION .

Coordinated use of various measures and means, aimed at informing and


educating the civilian population and the Armed Forces, in order to maintain their
morale and counteract the effect of the enemy's psychological operations.

NOTE.

Quota in individuals, which is indicated to a territorial body in the enlistments of


personnel for the Armed Forces.

ACT OF SERVICE .

All acts carried out by active military personnel, in compliance with the duties
imposed by the Regulations.
ENLISTED .

Call the individual who has been called up.

HIGH .

Entry of personnel into active service or any department. Entry of materials into
the positions of a military organization.

HIGH COMMAND .

Organization or set of military organizations, at the highest level, in charge of


preparing the Armed Forces since peacetime and using them during war
operations.

WARNING .

Verbal warning or counterclaim given to officer, auxiliary and troop personnel for
small offenses. It is the least punishment that is imposed.

MILITARY ANNALS . Annual list of events that occurred in a unit.

ANTIQUITY .

Time that an individual remains in the Armed Forces, or in a class or category


and that confers command and certain regulatory rights. In the hierarchical
order, with class equality, seniority is strictly respected. “Seniority is class.”

WARNING .

Written notification made to officers or auxiliary personnel for minor offenses,


ordering them to proceed as they should or have been ordered.

ASCENT .

Promotion to a higher class or grade.

ASSIMILATED .

Officer who does not have the right to ownership of the rank, but does have the
right to its attributes while holding office.

ATTENTION .

Fundamental position of the soldier. Command voice to take the fundamental


position, or to alert personnel.

ASSISTANT .

Officer assigned to a civil or military authority.


AZIMUT OR ACIMUT .

Horizontal angle, formed by a given direction and the North direction. It is


expressed in degrees or thousandths and is measured in dextrosum from the
North. There are geographic or true, magnetic and square azimuths, depending
on the N origin.

BAGGAGE .

Set of objects carried by troops, necessary to make life easier in the campaign.

LOW .

Loss or absence of an individual in a military unit or division.

WAR FLAG .

National Flag, with the National Shield in the center, which is inscribed with the
name of the unit to which it belongs and whose use is mandatory in all units and
some divisions of the Armed Forces and Auxiliaries.

NATIONAL FLAG .

Symbol of the Nation in a rectangular shape, composed of three bands of equal


width, white in the center and red at the ends, without a shield.

BAND .

Clarion or bugle call, used to recognize Officers when they join their unit or to
communicate the commander's orders to several units.

BARRACA .

Light construction, generally made of wood, removable or not, which can be


used as a room, storage room, etc.

BARRICADE .

Obstacles made with random means, such as logs, stones or overturned


vehicles. It is used to create obstructions in streets, roads or landing fields.

BATTLE .

Decisive meeting between two very important forces. It is normally carried out by
Large Units, capable of acting in more than one direction.
BATTALION .

It is the tactical and organic unit of the Infantry, which is taken as the basis for
the constitution of the Higher Units.

BATTERY .

Sub. unit of the Artillery Group formed by several pieces. Equivalent to Company
or Squad.

WHISKER .

Each of the soldiers, who in a variable number and as a sign of honor, precede
the President of the Republic, the Council of Ministers in full, Ministers of State
or high-ranking persons, in the reviews and solemnities, when said authorities
attend in carriage .

BAG .

Penetration in the form of a pocket, from an enemy attack to a defensive


position.

BLITZKRIEG .

Overwhelming offensive action, carried out with powerful and mobile forces,
mainly armored and aviation.

BRIGADE .

Generic name given to large units made up of troops with all the necessary
weapons and services.

BRIGADIER .

Student officer or Cadet with the highest class of a promotion or course.

FLANGE .

Set of straps and irons to hold and manage the horse's head.

BULLDOZER .

High-power machine, used in earthworks; It uses a front blade (tamper), with


variable position, to push the materials. It can be caterpillar or wheel.
CHIVALRY .

One of the constituent combat elements of the Army, whose mission in combat
is to provide information and security to the other arms.

GENTLEMAN .

First degree of the decoration of the Military Order of Ayacucho and other
decorations that exist in the country.

TOTORA HORSE .

Floating body formed by bundles of reeds, generally used by fishermen on our


coast and Lake Titicaca. In military operations it can be used as a circumstance
floater.

CAPE .

Troop individual of a class immediately higher than that of the soldier; It can fulfill
different functions and services such as: group corporal, barracks, guard, etc.

WINCH .

Device used to raise the anchors of a ship.

CADET .

Student of the Officer Training Schools for the Armed Forces. The student in
militarized schools is also designated by this name.

CALAMBUCO .

A mining device intended to receive an appreciable amount of explosives to


produce a major blast.

BATTLEFIELD .

Geographic area of considerable width in front and depth and that allows
simultaneous action, in one or several directions, of all the means of a Large
Unit of the Army Division type or higher.

COMBAT FIELD .

Geographic area within which a Large Combat Unit can carry out the
coordinated use of all its means, generally in a single direction.

SING THE PASS .

Conventional way of achieving uniformity of step during walking, for which the
instructor loudly and in a rhythmic manner indicates which foot must rest on the
ground at a given moment.
MILITARY CHAPLAIN .

Priest who is in charge of the religious services of the personnel in a military


unit, center or dependency. In Large Units, the Chaplain is part of the Special
General Staff.

CAPTAIN .

Third degree of the Officer hierarchy in the Army. It is the highest rank among
junior officers.

MILITARY HOUSE .

Group of chiefs of the Armed Forces, destined to ensure the immediate security
of the Head of State and represent him in certain official and social events.

SENTINEL .

Armed soldier, located in a fixed location to provide security and surveillance.

MILITARY CEREMONIAL .

Series or set of formalities with which the Armed Forces carry out one or more
military ceremonies.

UNEMPLOYMENT .

Payment that salaried personnel receive when they retire from the Service. It is
proportional to the number of years of services provided.

MILITARY CLASS .

Grouping of citizens registered in military records in a given year, according to


their birth.

MORSE CODE .

System of dots and dashes used by wire and wireless telegraphy.

COLUMN .

Formation in which the constituent elements of a unit are placed one after
another.

COMMANDER .

Military officer who commands a force, regardless of its magnitude or nature.


Term with which, usually in the Army, the Lieutenant Colonel is called.

WEAPONS COMMANDER .

The highest rank of the Armed Forces, with direct command of combatant troops
present in a garrison.
GENERAL COMMANDER .

General Officer who commands one of the components of the Armed Forces.

COMMAND .

Authority that a military member exercises over his subordinates by reason of


rank or employment.

COMMANDS .

Units and individuals trained for special operations: land, amphibious or


airborne, which are generally used to carry out raids with small elements.

COMBAT .

Meeting between two military forces of relative importance. Its results may or
may not be decisive for the battle.

COMMANDER .

Third degree of the Order of Ayacucho and other decorations that exist in the
country.

CONSCRIPT .

Individual who serves in the Armed Forces.

COUNCIL OF WAR .

Permanent peacetime court, subordinate to the Council of General Officers,


which exercises jurisdiction in the corresponding Judicial Zone, determined by
the Code of Military Justice.

COLONEL .

Sixth degree of the military hierarchy of the Officer in the Army.

SQUARE UP .

Take the position of attention.

CHARLIE . Word that designates the letter C, in the Phonetic Alphabet.

EPAULATRE .

Golden military garment, in the shape of a shovel, which is attached to the


Polish woman's shoulder pad by means of a loop and from which the cannelloni
hang. It is used in some dress uniforms.

CHEDDITE .

Explosive based on potassium chlorate, not very sensitive except when well
compressed. It is used as a military explosive and primed with a more sensitive
explosive such as dynamite.

CHIMBAR .

Cross a river from one bank to the other by swimming or by boat.

CHUPADERA .

Term used in the jungle region to designate a muddy area.

REALIZE .

Inform higher authority of an occurrence.

CIVIL DEFENSE .

Organization, direction and mobilization of all available resources, in order to


protect the civilian population and reduce to a minimum, through passive
measures, the effects of enemy action. Civil authorities are responsible for
compliance with Civil Defense measures in their jurisdiction.

NATIONAL DEFENSE .

Set of measures and provisions designed to guarantee the comprehensive


security of the Nation and allow it to achieve its National Objectives.

DISARMAMENT .

Reduction or limitation made by a nation of its war elements or its preparation for
war.

DEPLOYMENT .

Operation through which troops gathered in concentration or assembly areas


begin to occupy the device provided for in the operations plans for their use.

OUTSTANDING .

Individual belonging to a unit, who has been separated from it to fulfill a specific
mission, or who has been temporarily placed at the disposal of another
command.

DETACHMENT .

Meeting under a single command of combat and support units, of different


weapons and services, with which a combat team is formed to fulfill a specific
mission.
DETAIL .

Administrative office of a troop unit where all documentation relating to the


administration of the unit is prepared, formulated and filed. It is called General
Detail of a Corps and Detail of Company, Battery or Squadron.

GUIDELINE .

Center line of the firing range of a weapon.

DISLOCATION .

Action by which the assembled troops, stationed or on the march, are free,
under the command of their own leaders, to go to their barracks, cantonments,
etc.

AVAILABILITY .

Situation of the Officer who is out of active service but in a position to be called
to the activity situation.

BEND THE COLUMN .

Overtaking one element of a march column to another, on the same route and in
the same direction of march.

ECONOMY OF FORCES .

Principle of war that requires the use, appropriately dosed and skillfully, of the
means available to accomplish a mission using only the necessary resources.

ECRASITE .

Explosive based on picric acid. It has almost double the strength of dynamite.

EDECAN .

Name given to the members of the Military House of the President of the

Normal length to the direction of march or progression of a unit in the area under
its responsibility.
BATTERY FRONT .

Distance, in meters, between the end pieces of a battery in position, measured


perpendicular to the baseline.

FOXTROT .

Word that designates the letter F in the military phonetic alphabet.

STRONG .

Term used to mean that an element is more important, or that characterizes a


set; This is how you say: strong in tanks, strong in infantry, etc. In the North
American Army, this is the name for a permanent military installation, including
its training areas.

FURRIEL .

Second sergeant or corporal who, in company-type units, works in detail in the


preparation of documentation.

Science that studies the influence of geographical elements and the demands
they cause in military operations.
DEGREE .

Hierarchical position or each of the categories of the military hierarchy, in this


sense it is synonymous with employment.

GREAT CROSS .

The highest degree of the decoration of the Military Order of Ayacucho and the
other decorations existing in the country.

GREAT OFFICER

. Fourth degree in the Military Order of Ayacucho.

GREAT UNIT .

Generic name given to the meeting, under a single command, of combatant and
service elements, so that it is self-sufficient and balanced, with the organization
being fixed or permanent.

GARRISON .

Group of troops, of any nature, found in a town and its surroundings.

WARFARE .

Formation in dispersed order of small elements of Cavalry. Executive command


voice to adopt said training.

ENABLED .

Officer of a Unit or division in charge of managing and receiving from the paying
offices, the funds that for various reasons correspond to their entity.

MADE OF WEAPONS .

Fight or combat anyone.

ROW .

Each of the fractions of two or three men, located one behind the other, in a line
formation of 2 or 3 rows.

HONORS .

Acts that are carried out as a sign of respect for the authorities and symbols of
the Homeland, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

ZERO HOUR .

Expression that designates the moment at which any operation must begin.
Particularly it is used to designate the time at which the attack will begin.

HARASS .

Persecute, harass or harass the enemy insistently, preferably with fire or other
means capable of keeping him in a permanent state of anxiety.

IMAGINARY .

Soldier who provides services during the night in a troop stable or dormitory or in

BOSS .

The superior who exercises authority in any military entity or installation, with the
exception of units.

LINE BOSS .

General or Superior Officer in charge of commanding the troops and rendering


the corresponding honors in parades, reviews and parades.

MAJOR STATE BOSS .

The main collaborator of the Commander of a Military Institute, Large Unit or


military departments, responsible for coordinating the work of the General Staff.

Solemn act that takes place on June 7 of each year, in each military garrison, in
front of the monument to Colonel Francisco Bolognesi and in which, the recruits
promise to defend the national flag and that of their Unit, respect and obey their
superiors and Do not abandon them under any circumstances.

MILITARY JURISDICTION .

Power or authority exercised by courts and military authorities, in matters whose

Set of provisions dictated by the State for its defense, in exceptional


circumstances such as war, revolution, subversion, public calamity, etc.

LICENSE .

Authorization granted to personnel not to attend the performance of their duties


or to be absent for a period of time greater than 29 days.

LICENSED .

Soldier who leaves the service due to time served or for another reason,
according to the Military Service Law.

LIME .

oz, which designates the letter L in the military phonetic alphabet.

LIST .

Official document that lists in an orderly manner the personnel, livestock,


material, equipment, etc., of a unit or division.

LOGISTICS .

Part of military science and art that includes all activities directly related to
satisfying the physical needs of troops.

BAND CALL .

Bugle call to rally the bands

APPEAL .

Convocation or meeting of personnel who, by provision of the Compulsory


Military Service Law, must serve in the Armed Forces, whether in time of peace
or war.

SPECIAL APPEAL .

That which is made on any date, at the discretion of the Executive Branch, to
satisfy the needs that arise after the ordinary call, for training or maneuver
purposes, and to cover the needs in case of emergency.

ORDINARY CALL .

Call that, according to the Compulsory Military Service Law and by separate
Supreme Decree, is made for the Army, Navy or Aeronautics on dates
determined by the Law or previously established by the Executive Branch.

KEEP THE PACE .

The personnel of a unit must march at the same cadence and simultaneously
place the same foot on the ground.

MAESTRANZA .

Set of workshops and offices, intended for the manufacture or maintenance of


weapons, materials and equipment.

COMMAND .

Art of stimulating the effort of personnel and directing it towards a certain


objective, in such a way as to obtain trust, obedience, respect and loyal
cooperation.
MANEUVER .

One of the principles of war that requires the judicious combination of movement
and available means to achieve the conquest of the objective, or a more
advantageous position, to achieve them despite the action of the enemy.

MARCH .

Movement of troops on foot, on horseback, motorized or by a combination of


these forms, using only the organic means of the units.

MARK THE STEP .

Movement performed by the soldier by alternately raising his feet, on the same
location, maintaining the cadence of the doubled step.

MARSHAL .

The highest dignity that Congress can grant to a member of the Army.

ELDERLY .

Fourth degree of the military hierarchy of the Officer in the Army. It constitutes
the first grade in the category of Chiefs or Superior Officers.

MILITARY .

Term that applies to the individual or any element that belongs to the Army.

COMMAND MEANS .

Generic expression that designates the different resources that the Boss uses to
make his action felt and transmit his will to his subordinates. These means are:
command voices, optical and acoustic signals and verbal or written orders.

ANNUAL MEMORY .

Document that is prepared annually by the important units and departments of


the Army, in which they present the most important activities and events that
occurred during the period.

MUTINY .

Crime against order and security, provided for and punished by the Code of
Military Justice.

MOBILIZATION .

Preparation for war or other emergencies, by gathering and organizing the


nation's resources.
WARSHIP .

Any vessel intended for combat in or on the surface of water.

NAVIGATION .

Driving a unit, vessel or vehicle, so that its position and direction can be
determined at any time. Depending on the observation or orientation system
used, navigation can be astronomical, electrical, observed, etc.

NEUTRALIZE .

Cancel or reduce the effectiveness of enemy action, the means it uses, or any
dangerous device. Render inactive, by chemical or other action, a toxic chemical
product.

OPERATIVE LEVEL .

Amount of supply, required by a unit or facility, expressed in days of supply,


necessary to support operations during the interval between two orders, or
between the arrival of two successive shipments, coming from the upper
echelon. It is based, among other considerations, on the established
replenishment cycle (monthly, quarterly, etc.).

SMOKE CLOUD .

Concentrated smoke, used to mask friendly or enemy troops or facilities, or


elements in maneuver. The smoke clouds used can be smoke fog, smoke fog,
smoke curtain or smoke concentration.

AIM .

Principle of war that establishes that every military operation must pursue an
end or purpose that can only be achieved through the use of armed force.

MILITARY OCCUPATION .

Condition of the area or territory that is under the effective control of a foreign
armed force. Only the occupied territory remains under the military occupation
regime.

JOINT OPERATION .

Operation in which two or more Institutes of the Armed Forces of the same
nation participate.
ORGANIZE RESERVATIONS .

It is to constitute the complement reserves of the Active Army and the reserve
units of the Permanent Army, nominally assigning reservist personnel with
military training registered in the Provincial Territorial Offices.

GUIDANCE COUNSELLORS .

A parachute team that launches or lands in an area for the purpose of


establishing and operating means to guide aircraft to the launch or landing
zones.

OFFENSIVE .

Principle of war that advocates the determined search for the fight to destroy the
enemy or to conquer the intended objective, since only through offensive action
are decisive results achieved, imposing one's own will on that of the adversary.

STRATEGIC OFFENSIVE .

Large-scale offensive action carried out by a country, with the necessary


resources, to achieve its national objectives.

OFFICIAL .

Higher category of personnel serving in the Armed Forces. It includes from the
Second Lieutenant or Ensign to the Division General in the Army.

OPERATION .

Any action to fulfill a mission in the military domain.

ORDER OF BATTLE .

Generic expression that includes the identification, force, organization,


command structure, device, units, equipment, doctrine and personalities of a
military force

PAVILION .

Set of three or more rifles, placed in a pyramidal shape with the stocks resting
on the ground and hooked at the top.

PART .

Verbal or written report provided to the superior on a specific matter.


EARLY DISCHARGE PART .

Document formulated by the units and departments that have troop personnel,
three months before discharge and which includes the total number of personnel
that will be discharged soon without determination of grade. The consolidation of
these documents makes it possible to determine the personnel that must be
recruited to complete the workforce.

PATRON .

National Hero who, due to his excellence, has been chosen as a symbol of
military virtues, to preside over the Army and Weapons.

PATROL .

Variable force, usually small, deployed by a larger unit to perform


reconnaissance or combat missions, provide security, or locate and maintain
contact with enemy or other friendly units.

AUXILIARY STAFF .

Army personnel destined to meet the needs of the different existing specialties;
It includes the categories of technicians and non-commissioned officers.

PICKET .

Reduced troop strength, under the command of an Officer, which exists in some
military units to serve the different services.

PLAN .

A form of action, generally written, that prescribes a set of measures to achieve


a specific goal.

DEFENSE AND SECURITY PLAN .

That formulated by the heads of the units and autonomous agencies of the
Armed Forces and the Auxiliary Forces for the immediate protection of their
respective installation in the event of serious disturbance of public order.

MILITARY POLICE .

One of the Administrative Services whose personnel is in charge of enforcing


laws, regulations and orders in general, and is in charge of traffic control,
custody of prisoners of war and other functions aimed at maintaining order and
security of the facilities within the area of its jurisdiction.

LISTENING POST.

That which is organized in order to carry out surveillance at night or when


visibility conditions are unfavorable.

Penalty of deprivation of liberty, from 30 days to 2 years, imposed according to


the provisions of the Code of Military Justice.

RECOGNITION .

Military operation carried out to obtain, through observation, information about
