Calum Intro - William Shakespeare, often regarded as the
greatest playwright in the English language, lived during the
Elizabethan and Jacobean eras in the 16th and early 17th
centuries. Born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England,
he was the son of a glove-maker and local official.
Shakespeare's prolific career spanned over two decades, during
which he wrote numerous plays, sonnets, and poems that
continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
Deeya 3 types – Shakespeare’s first folio consisted of 36 plays.
Within these plays they were spilt into 3 categories these where
his comedies, histories, and tragedies. He wrote 14 comedies, 12
tragedies and 10 histories.
Comedies intro Calum – Shakespeare's comedies, a delightful
facet of his literary repertoire, showcase the playwright's
mastery in blending humour, romance, and wit. These plays,
such as "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Twelfth Night,"
feature intricate plots, mistaken identities, and clever wordplay.
Filled with love, misunderstandings, and often culminating in
joyful resolutions.
Comedy 1 Deeya – 12th Night is a fabulously written play about a
pair of twins who have been in a shipwreck, and both believe the
other has drowned. Viola (one of the twins) disguises herself as
an old man. But Viola is secretly in love with the duke who is in
love with Countess Olivia who in turn is I love with the man who is
Viola is disguise. SO MUCH DRAMA, RIGHT? A classic love
triangle. The tale was written in 1601. Shakespeare wrote this play
in farewell to his military life.
Comedy 2 Deeya – A midsummers night dream is a play about
four Athenians who run away into a forest only to have a fairy
called Puck cast a spell to make both boys of the group fall in love
with one of the girls another love triangle maybe Shakespeare will
be in casa amour in love island this year. At the end Puck reverses
the spell and the couples reconcile and get married a typical
comedic ending, The play is inspired by Ovids Metorphoses,
which is a poem which weaves together many Greeks and
Romans and tales into an epic poem.
Tragedies intro Deeya – Shakespeare's tragedies, a cornerstone
of world literature, delve into profound human emotions and
the consequences of unchecked ambition. Comprising iconic
works such as "Hamlet," and "Macbeth,". Through captivating
characters and poetic language, Shakespeare's tragedies
navigate the dark territories of human experience, leaving an
indelible mark on the landscape of dramatic storytelling
Tragedies 1 Calum – Hamlet is a very well-known Shakespearian
tragedies and play made between 1599-1602. It’s a heart-breaking
story about a Prince called Hamlet who is tortured on making the
decision to murder the man who murdered his father. In the end,
Hamlet suZers a “Tragic” Death in battle from a poisoned blade.
Shakespeare’s inspiration for this terribly sad tale was his own
son Hamlet who so sadly died only age eleven three years
younger than some of us in this room.
Tragedies 2 Deeya – Macbeth is another classic tragedy written by
Shakespeare in around 1606. It tells the story of a brave Scottish
soldier and nobleman, who is driven to commit murder and
treachery in his quest for power. Influenced by supernatural
forces and his own unchecked ambition, Macbeth becomes a
tyrant, leading to a tragic downfall.
Some ask why did Macbeth become a comedian?
Because he had a killer sense of humour.
Histories intro Deeya – Shakespeare's Histories form a
captivating collection of plays that chronicle key events in
English history. These works blend historical facts with dramatic
imagination, offering a vivid portrayal of monarchs, political
intrigue, and societal upheavals. Notable examples include
"King John," and "Henry V."
History 1 Calum – "Henry V" is a historical play by William
Shakespeare, believed to have been written around 1599. It is
the final instalment in the tetralogy that also includes "Richard
II," "Henry IV, Part 1," and "Henry IV, Part 2." The play
dramatizes the events of King Henry V's reign, focusing
particularly on the Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred
Years' War between England and France
History 2 Deeya – "King John" is a historical play by William
Shakespeare, believed to have been written in the early 1590s.
It dramatizes events during the reign of King John of England,
focusing on political intrigue, family disputes, and the
challenges faced by the monarchy. While not one of
Shakespeare's most frequently performed plays, "King John"
offers a compelling exploration of power, loyalty, and the
complexities of medieval politics.
