1 General

Hydraulic cleanliness is the foundation for problem free function of hydraulic systems. Especially during
installation- and service works this must be granted.
With the hydraulic oil-filtration unit EKD 219 PALFINGER offers a tool, which is an essential support for initial
fillings, topping up or changing of hydraulic liquids. Furthermore, this unit can be used to deeply clean hydraulic
system already in use.
This service bulletin informs about the new PALFINGER hydraulic oil-filtration unit EKD 219.

3 Description
The new EKD 219 filtration unit from PALFINGER has been developed to guarantee the required cleanliness
for first fillings of hydraulic systems or service works (topping up or changing oil) on hydraulic systems. These
requirements are also explained in the PALFINGER installation guidelines, chapter 8 – “Installation instructions
for crane hydraulics”.
Furthermore, the system can be used to professionally clean the oil of already polluted systems, as the following
test report clearly underlines:
To check the efficiency of the filtration unit EKD 219, PALFINGER cleaned the oil of a PK 165.002TEC7
with cleanliness values 23/20/16 according to ISO4406 over a period of 3h.
The result showed clear improvements as the cleanliness values changed to 18/16/11. This is below the
maximum allowed values and so the oil could be kept in the crane further.
As an option, water-absorbing filter elements (AQUA) can also be used in the unit for short-term water
absorption.
The optional trolley can be hooked onto the stationary appliance for easy transport of the filtration unit. This
enables effortless transport even over long distances.

4 Procurement
The filtration unit is available at the PALFINGER spare parts centre under the article number EKD 219 and is
supplied ready for use with a pre-assembled standard filter element.
4.1 Spare Part - Equipment:

• EKD 219-01 Trolley (Not included in the standard scope of delivery)
• EKD 219-02 Standard filter element
• EKD 219-03 Manometer (Filter wear indicator)
