Stem and Leaf Display or Plot: (for Univariate Quantitative Data)
A stem and leaf display or plot is a special type of data presentation (quantitative univariate) where
each data value is split into a “stem” (the first digit or digits) and a “leaf” (usually the last digit).
How to plot:
Arrange the data in ascending order if they are scattered.
Then draw the plot in left “Stem” and in right “Leaf”
Put the Stem value from larger to smaller. You can put from smaller to larger. But the first
one is better.
Place the value of Leaf without any „comma‟ but must give a small gap between two digits.
That means not seems that it‟s a number. So, digits should be separate from each other.
Unit of Stem and Leaf should be displayed.
Any one of the Key should also be displayed.
If there are more than one similar numbers then put all the last digits one by one with a gap.
If the number is three digits, put first two in Stem and last one is in Leaf.
Example 1:
Create a stem and leaf plot display from the given data:
7, 23, 25, 25, 27, 30, 32, 36, 45, 50
Stem and Leaf plot is given below:

Example 2: Create a stem and leaf plot display from the given distances:
Distance (in meter) covered by Mamun in long jump are listed below:
2.3, 2.5, 2.5, 2.7, 2.8, 3.2, 3.6, 3.6, 4.5, 5.0
Stem and Leaf plot is given below:

Example 3:
Create a list of the numbers from the stem and leaf plot:

Create a stem and leaf plot display from the given data:
23.67, 12.45, 3.4, 4.43, 5.5, 5.68, 16.87, 24.7, 56.8
Stem and Leaf plot is given below:
