01) Bank Note:
The note issued by a bank is called bank note.

02) Inland Remittance:


To facilitate the customer bank transfer fund from one place to another within the country known as
Inland Remittance

04) Pay Order:


A pay order is a written order, issued by bank, to pay a certain sum of money to a specific person or
a bank. It is said as Bankers Cheque.

05) What is Cheque :


Cheque is a written instrument drawn on a banker payable on demand certain amount of money.

A Cheque is an unconditional order of the account holder in writing bearing a date, to the banker
maintaining his account to pay on demand to a named person or to his order or to the bearer a
certain specified sum of money expressed in both figures & words.

06) Parties to the Cheque :


Drawer : Drawer is the account holder.
Drawee : Drawee is the bank who is to pay the money.
Payee : Payee is the beneficiary who is to receive the money.

07) What is Stale Cheque :


If a cheque is presented for payment after six months from the date appearing on the cheque.

08) What is Post dated Cheque :


If a cheque is presented for payment bearing a future date it will be regarded as a post-dated
cheque.

09) What is Crossing of Cheque :


If a cheque bears across its face at the left hand top corner two parallels transverse straight lines
with or without the words “ & Co.” then it is called a crossed cheque.

10) There are four types of crossing:


a) General Crossing
b) Special Crossing
c) Restrictive Crossing
d) Double Special Crossing

a) General Crossing: When a cheque bears two transverse parallel lines across its face with or
without any words, It is called general crossing.

b) Special Crossing: When a cheque bears across its face with the name of a banker it shall be
deemed to be special Crossing.

c) Restrictive Crossing : When a cheque bears two parallel lines across its face with the words
“Not Transferable” or “Account Payee” or “Account payee only” or Account payee/Not
Negotiable” it is called Restrictive crossing.

d) Double Special Crossing : When a cheque bears two separate special crossing-it is said to
have been double-crossed.

13) Endorsement :
Putting signature on the back of an instrument for negotiation with or without the name of
payee is called endorsement.

15) Bank Draft :
A written order to a bank by any bank to pay money to someone is called Bank Draft.

16) Bank Rate :


The attributed interest rate by the central bank on the amount of money borrowed by commercial
bank from central bank is called Bank Rate.

17) Clearing House :
The inter-bank central office for exchanging cheques & bills is called clearing house.

18) E-commerce:
E-commerce (electric commerce) is the selling & buying of goods & services on the Internet.

19) What is BACH :


Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH) the automation of the country’s banking and
clearing system. As a part of the central bank scheme. BACH is likely to introduce the clearing
system more speedily, securely and efficiently in the banking sector through electronic media
considering the standardized system for all banks in Bangladesh.

20) What is MICR:


The bottom line on all cheques printed and used in many countries worldwide is printed using a
special font called MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition). The bottom line on a cheque must
always be printed in the MICR Type font (CMC-7 or E-13B) using special Ink called magnetic ink.

21) Negotiable Instrument:


A “Negotiable Instrument” means a Cheque, Demand Promissory Note, DD & Bill of Exchange
payable either to order or bearer.

 Stale Date : I will not make payment, because this cheque is Stale dated cheque.
CTR : Cash Transaction Report to central bank (by monthly reporting I;e 10 th of the following

37) What is material alteration?


A Cheque presented for payment bearing changes of any material parts that is Place, Date, Payee
amount (words and figures) or crossing is called material alteration. Any material alteration will
render the Cheque invalid Material alteration in the Cheque must therefore be authenticated by
drawer with his/her full specimen signature recorded with bank.
