1. CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages):

CEFR is a standardized framework that describes the language proficiency of learners.
It is widely used to assess and measure one's ability in a language, with a focus on European languages.
It ranges from A1 to C2, beginner to proficient level, respectively.

2. Students' linguistic abilities at each level

A1 (Beginner): Basic level; can understand and use familiar everyday expressions.
A2 (Elementary): Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a basic understanding.
B1 (Intermediate): Can deal with most situations while traveling, expressing opinions, and giving reasons.
B2 (Upper Intermediate): Can understand the main ideas of complex text and interact with a degree of
fluency.
C1 (Advanced): Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and express ideas fluently and
spontaneously.
C2 (Proficient): Near-native proficiency; can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read.

3. Exit Language Requirements (prerequisite) for Higher Education

Undergraduate Studies: Typically, a B2 or equivalent level.

Postgraduate Studies (Master's/Ph.D.): Often require C1 or C2 proficiency.
Exit language requirements refer to the proficiency a student needs to demonstrate
when completing a language program or before entering higher education.
This can vary, but often aligns with B2 or higher.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing
System):
TOEFL: Primarily used in North America. Scores range from 0 to 120, divided into four sections:
Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Most reputable universities, for example, will require at least
90 out of 120,
whereas other universities, such as the ones in Thailand, are less demanding, requiring only 80 out of
120 for admission purposes.

IELTS: Commonly used in the UK, Australia, and many other countries. Scores range from 0 to 9, with
four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
In a similar vein, most renowned institutes will require well over 7 band score out of 9, while the others
will require 6 out of 9.

Both tests are almost interchangeable and assess English proficiency for academic and general
purposes.
TOEFL is more common in the U.S., while IELTS is accepted in a broader range of countries.
