Sling Diameter and Length Calculations

The document describes how to calculate the diameter and length of a sling for lifting based on the working load limit and minimum breaking load using formulas involving factors like the working load limit, safety factor, number of legs, and angle. It provides two options for calculating the diameter and selects a 22mm diameter sling based on the minimum breaking load exceeding the calculated value. It also shows how to calculate the sling length based on the half diagonal of the lift and selects a length of at least 4020mm.

Sling Diameter Calculation

Option#1 WLLs = WLLmin / (3 × cos β)

= 13.07 / (3 × cos 45)

= 6.16 tonne

BLmin = (6.16 x 5 x 9.81)/0.9

= 336 kN

Option#2 WLLS = (BLmin x KT x n x cos β) / (5 x g)

BLmin = (WLLS x 5 x g)/ (KT x n x cos β)

= (13.07 x 5 x 9.81)/(0.9 x 3 x cos45)

= 336 kN

Select Sling Grade 1960 Diameter 22 mm (MBL 338 kN > 336 kN)
Sling Length Calculation

Length of sling: (Sling Length Design at 60°)

Half Diagonal ( ) = 4030 /2

= 2010

Length of sling = 2010 /cos 60 = 4020 mm

Select Length of Sling at least 4020 mm
