Rationale and Objective:


Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 469, s. 2018, the Filipino Food Month (FFM)
or the Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino is annually celebrated during the month of April. This
proclamation aims to celebrate and promote the country’s vast culinary tradition and
treasures. This allows the future generations of Filipinos to appreciate the Filipino
culinary’ history and heritage.

This year, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the
Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Philippine
Culinary Heritage Movement, is spearheading this year’s celebration with the theme,
“Engaging the Youth in Shaping the Future of Philippine Culinary Heritage and
Gastronomy”.

The 2024 FFM celebration aims to promote food, gastronomy, and farm tourism in the
nation, the value of educating people about the history and culinary heritage of the
region, and potential solutions to problems like youth malnutrition.

The activity was conducted on April 30, 2024 at Municipal Gymnasium,
Padada, Davao Del Sur.

Highlights:

The registration started at 7:00 am, with the secretariat administers the
registration of the participants coming from the 17 Barangays in the municipality
of Padada, Province of Davao del Sur.

After the registration the secretariat instructed all the teams to start the
breakfast and drinks preparation. The teams are instructed to prepare their own
version of “Silog” and they have the option to add more viand to eat according to
their style. They are also allowed to prepare any hot or cold drinks to complement
their breakfast menu. After the allotted time, each team presented their table and
their breakfast entry while the judges proceed to the judging of the said category.
The teams were given time to eat and enjoy the Breakfast they prepared.
This was followed by the short program with an opening prayer and singing
of the National Anthem, Padada Hymn. The Banner raising was done before the
mass dancing of I Love Davao del Sur at the Municipal grounds.

The program was formally opened by the Designated Local Youth


Development Officer, Eden Joy C. Bellosa. She also discussed the rationale of the
activity. Local Chief Executive, Hon. Francisco L. Guerrero, Jr. also gave his
message of support to all the SK Programs and inspire all the participants to be
an active Citizen and join such activities. Inputs about Good Nutrition and
Healthy Food Preparation was given by one of the Judges and the Guest Speaker
during the event, Ms. Jena G. Villaruel, Nutritionist-Dietician II of DOH RXI.

Simultaneously, the rest of the participants were preparing for the Lunch
and Dessert Competition. The Main Ingredients for the Lunch was Shrimp and it
was provided by the Facilitators as part of the mechanics they need to innovate
their own menu using Shrimp. For the dessert they were also required to prepare
a dessert using Banana (Cardava). All the teams enjoyed preparing their entries
while the judges were having hard time to decide who will be winning the
competitions.

After the judging, everyone enjoyed eating their delicious menu for lunch.
Then the most awaited part was the announcement of winner, as follows:

The activity ended with so much joy and happiness from every teams
despite not being declared as winners, their experience and bond together is
