This is the feedback template that I have used for receiving feedback on the teaching
session that I use as an example for reflection in this module. I decided to use the
questionnaire framework for receiving feedback. I believe that the questionnaire model
gives the learners the opportunity to be anonymous so that they can provide honest
feedback about the session. It is also one of the easiest models to use in the context of
online learning as a google forms could be made and a link sent to the learners in the chat
box and feedback is received instantly.
Receiving feedback
I have used the questionnaire model as a means of receiving feedback. I believe that it gives
the learners the opportunity to be anonymous so that they can provide honest feedback
about the session. It is also one of the easiest models to use in the context of online learning
as a google form is made and a link sent to the learners in the chat box so that feedback can
be received instantly. Also using the online form provides a rapid way of analysis of the
responses which are presented in a graph form so that I can reflect upon it. In total, I have
received feedback from 12 of the learners who have attended the session. For 7 out of the 9
questions provided, the overall responses were 95-100% who either strongly agree or agree.
2 of the questions, which were related to the relevance of the material provided and the
ability to apply the knowledge in the workplace, received responses that were only 30%
who either strongly agree or agree. The comments in the free text sections also guided me
to the same conclusion as some of learners wrote in the improvements section things like
“selecting the data that is relevant to me should be made next time”. While I was
developing the learning material, I was not fully aware of that problem as I thought, back
then, that the material was relevant, but while delivering the session, It turned out that the
level of detail presented was not quite appropriate for foundation year 1 doctors and I have
noticed that. I think that this problem was in part because there is no formal curriculum for
those doctors that I can refer back to while preparing for the sessions and also because I
haven’t asked the senior staff what to include or exclude in the learning material as they
would have helped me with that because they are more experienced in it. Apart from that
problem, I think I delivered the session effectively and most of the students found it
engaging, useful and clear as demonstrated by the responses. So to conclude, The main
drawback was about choosing what to include in the learning material so that they can truly
benefit from it and apply it to the workplace. I believe that next time I will ask the seniors to
provide me with their experience of what the doctors at that level of training need to know
and I will also make a pre-session questionnaire to be handed out to random learners a
week or two before the session, if possible, so that I can plan the session according to their
true needs.
