MDA Machine/Cell Machine Evaluations
1 Overview
1.1 General
Functions of the user interface:
The MDA Machine Data Evaluation user interface makes available the following functions:
• Machine Message
You can acquire manually status conditions and reasons for disturbances for machines and units.
• Status display
You see the current status of the machine.
• Evaluations:
The progress, frequency and duration of individual status conditions can be analyzed.
Quantities for individual machines or groups of machines can be displayed using machine
counters.
• Logbooks
You can refer to changes in status in the logbook and the logs.
• Simple layout with the states of the machines and units.
Authorization groups:
Depending on the user group, you can deactivate individual functions.
All the screen form and function descriptions are based on the default configuration on a PC under
Windows NT 4.0 and show the configured functions as delivered.
1.2 Defining Machines and Units
You define machines and units by means of configuration.
In MDA, a machine is classified by the following data:
• PLANT (German: WERK)
The four-digit plant identifier is for grouping machines that are all located in the same plant or
shop.
• MACHINE (German: MASCHINE)
Machines can consist of several units. One unit is defined as the "main unit" and it represents the
status of the entire machine.
• UNIT (German: AGGREGAT)
In addition to the main unit, each machine can have some units that represent sections of the
machine, e.g. feed conveyor, pendulum grinder, etc.
The machine and each unit can have their own status conditions, see the Chapter entitled “Grouping
Status Conditions”.

1.3 Grouping Status Conditions
You define status conditions using configuration.
Status conditions are grouped into status groups. Each unit is assigned a status group at configuration.
By means of these status group, you define for each unit the status conditions that it can take on.
Within one status group, you can define the status conditions as main and sub-status conditions.
Each status is defined by a number consisting of five or more digits. The last four digits define the sub-
status condition and the digits before them define the main status condition (status class).
Example:
Status no. Status type Status text
40000 Main status condition Disturbance
41010 Sub-status condition Order missing
41020 Sub-status condition Material missing
42010 Sub-status condition Tool breakage
42020 Sub-status condition Oil loss
Each status has a priority. The lower the priority number, the higher the priority of the status.
There are two classes of status conditions:
• automatic status conditions
The SINUMERIK automatically acquires the start and end of these status conditions.
• manual status conditions
You can only set and end these status conditions via the MDA user interface.
1.4 Parallel Status Conditions
Several status conditions can be pending in parallel at every machine and unit. The status with the
highest priority is the main status condition of the machine or unit.
Several automatic status conditions can be pending in parallel but only a maximum of one manual status.
By means of configuration, you specify whether you want to work with parallel status conditions of
whether only one status at a time can be pending.

1.5 Operator Inputs to Screen Forms
You can make inputs to the user interface screen forms using the mouse or just the keyboard.
Name of the current screen form:
On the SINUMERIK, the system shows the name of the current screen form at the bottom right on the
message line.
On Windows PCs, the system enters the name of the current screen form in the window's header.
Keyboard inputs:
Key Effect
TAB Moves to the next field in the screen form, including the pushbuttons in the footer
HOME Moves to the next field in the screen form, not including the pushbuttons in the footer.
F1-Fxx Pressing function keys F1 to Fxx starts the functions assigned to the pushbuttons in the
footer.
R1-Rxx Depending on the PC or Operator Panel, you execute the pushbuttons on the right-hand
side using the right-hand function keys or Shift + the bottom function keys.
TOGGLE You can use the toggle key to check and uncheck the rows that are marked with ticks (check
marks).
On the SINUMERIK, the toggle key is in the middle of the block of cursor keys and on a PC
it is the figure 5 on the numeric keypad.
Date and time input:
The date and time input has been made very user-friendly:
You have the following options for entering the date:
• Entry in the normal format of the respective country, Example: ‘28.2.1999’ or ‘1999-2-28’
In this case, you must enter the day, month and year and the separator in exactly the same order
as the program outputs the date.
The system uses the format that you specified at configuration of MDA in the ”DAYFORMAT” key
of the masks texts at the actual language.
• date style: ‘280299’ or ‘28081999’
You enter the day, month and year without separators.
The day and the month must be in two-digit form, the year can be in two- or four digit form.
The system interprets the first two digits as the day, the next two as the month and the remaining
digits as the year.
Two digit years are interpreted as follows:
00 .. 90 > 2000 .. 2090
91 .. 99 > 1991 .. 1999
• Paging using the cursor keys:
Using the up arrow and down arrow keys, you can page one day forwards or backwards.
Using the shift key together with up arrow and down arrow keys, you can page one month forwards
or backwards.
• If you enter a date in the ‘From Time’ that is before the first available data record, the system
Automatically sets the "From Time" to the time of the first data record.
In the ”analysis of reason for disturbance” and ”availability” evaluations, you can choose one of the
following time types: ”Current”, ”Day”, ”Week”, ”Month” and ”Year”.
© Siemens AG 2000-2003 All Rights Reserved 1-5
Machine Evaluations MDA Machine/Cell
Special rules apply to time types ”Week”, ”Month” and ”Year”:
• ‘Week’:
- If you enter a day in the "From" field, the system automatically enters the first day of the week of
the entered day when you leave the field.
- If you enter a day in the "To" field, the system automatically enters the last day of the week of the
entered day when you leave the field.
- If you use the cursor keys to page through the "From" field, the system automatically shifts the
date by one week in each case and enters the last day of this week in the "To" field.
- If you use the cursor keys to page through the "To" field, the system automatically shifts the date
by one week in each case, the "To" field is not changed.
• ‘Month’:
Input options with month fields for ”January 1999”:
”01.99” ”01.1999” ”0199” ”011999”
Using the cursor keys, you can page one month forwards and backwards in each case.
If you page in the "From" field, the system automatically assigns the same month to the "To" field.
If you page in the "To" field”, the "From" field is unchanged.
• ‘Year’:
Input options with year fields for ”1999”:
”99” ”1999”
Using the cursor keys, you can page one year forwards and backwards in each case.
If you page in the "From" field, the system automatically assigns the same year to the "To" field.
If you page in the "To" field”, the "From" field is unchanged.
You have the following options for entering the clock time:
• Input in the form ‘HH:MM’, Examples: ‘17:12’, ‘8:08’
The system automatically converts inputs in short form:
”7:2” > ”07:02”
”5” > ”05:00”
”18” > ”18:00”
”:4” > ”00:04”
• Input without a separator, Examples: ‘855’, ‘1205’
If you only enter one or two digits, the system interprets the number as an hour.
If you enter three or four digits, the system interprets the last two digits as minutes and ones before
them as the hour:
”855” > ”08:55”
”1205” > ”12:05”
”120” > ”01:20”
”12” > ”12:00”
”1” > ”01:00”
• Paging using the cursor keys:
Using the up arrow and down arrow keys, you can page one hour forwards or backwards.
Using the shift key together with up arrow and down arrow keys, you can page one minute
forwards or backwards.
Apart from this, the system automatically applies the time range that you set with one evaluation to the
other evaluations.
Zooming the screen forms:
On Windows PCs, you can change the sizes of the screen forms. The system adapts graphics, tables and
lists to the current size of the screen form.
This functionality is not available on the SINUMERIK.
On other Operator Panels, this functionality depends on configuration of the parameters in the "General
Settings" range.

Filling the screen form with data:
By means of configuration, you can set whether the system fills the screen forms with data as soon as
they are displayed, or not until you click on the OK pushbutton (General Parameters > SCREEN_FILL).
Pressing the RETURN (Enter) key in screen forms has the same effect as clicking on the OK pushbutton.
In the graphic evaluations you can also define whether and at what intervals the graphics are to be
updated if the current time is displayed in the graphic.
(General parameter > GRAPHIC_CYCLE).

1.6 Printing of Tables / Data Export to Excel
Two print modes are available on the user interface:
• Simple printing:
Printing only as a hard copy of the current screen form
• Extended printing:
Printing of a hard copy and printing of the data in the form of a table and export of the screen form
data to Excel
By means of the configuration of the general settings it is possible to switch backwards and forwards
between the two modes:
General Parameters > GUI_MDE > PRINT_FLAG
Values: 0 – Simple printing
1 – Extended printing
Simple form of printing for ”Hard Copy”:
If this form of printing is chosen, and put into motion, then a hard copy of the actual screen form will be
printed out as a graphic on the default printer of the computer.
Extended form of printing with ”Tables/Export to Excel”:
In the case of extended printing a screen form with a pick list will be displayed first.
On the left-hand side of the screen form you can select a print mode:
• Hard copy of the screen form:
On the default printer of the computer a hard copy of the actual screen form will be printed out as a
graphic. This print mode is available for all screen forms.
• To print the data in the form of a table:
The data of the screen form will be printed as a table with header and subsequent pages.
This print mode is blocked if it is not supported by the actual screen form.
• To draw up the export file for Excel:
The data of the screen forms will be exported in a ”.csv” file. You can import this file in Excel.
The export to Excel is blocked if it is not supported by the actual screen form.
1-8 © Siemens AG 2000-2003 All Rights Reserved
MDA Machine/Cell Machine Evaluations
In the print modes ”hard copy” and ”tables” you can choose a printer on the right-hand side of the screen
form and as a paper format there is a choice between ”Portrait format” or ”Landscape format”.
To export the data to Excel you can specify the path and the name of the export file on the right-hand side
of the screen form.
For your information:
• The function ‘printing’ is only available if at least one printer is set up for the computer.
This can either be a local printer or a network printer.
• The export file to Excel will be drawn up in ‘.csv’-format (Comma Separated Values).
This file can be viewed by using any text editor.
If Microsoft Excel is installed on your system it will be opened by a double click on the file and,
consequently, the data of the screen form will then be viewed in an Excel table.

2 General Information on Handling
2.1 Information on using the Mouse
All the information on using the right and left mouse buttons refers to the standard mouse settings for
right-handed people that are made in the Windows Control Panel. If your Control Panel settings for the
mouse buttons are for a left-handed person, you should bear this in mind when making the described
inputs.
2.2 The Help System
In the MDA applications, you have available a help system that you can use at every individual stage of
working with the programs. To call the help system, simply press the F1 function key on the top row of the
keyboard.
The help system is context-sensitive, i.e. you are always provided with help that is relevant to the screen
form in which you are currently working. When you press the F1 function key to start the help system, it
always provides an explanation to the screen form where you are located at the time.
Single-clicking on terms that are displayed in green takes you to the desired topic; single-clicking on the
Back pushbutton takes you back to the topic that was displayed previously. The Back pushbutton is
located at the top of the window under the menu bar.

2.3 Calculating the OEE indicators
The OEE indicators are calculated using the external “OEECalculate” program.
The calculation of the OEE indicators can be adapted in a project-specific way in this program. The
description in this chapter relates to the version of the “OEECalculate” program that is supplied as
standard in MDA.
OEE indicator Formulas:
The OEE indicators provided in the standard are calculated using the following formulas:
Utilization = TPROD / TTARG * 100 %
Availability = (TTARG– TPROB) / TTARG * 100 %
Output = ( ∑Material (Total-UnitMaterial * Targ-CycleTimeMaterial) ) / (TTarg - TPROB) * 100 %
Quality = (∑Material (Total-UnitMaterial – Scrap-UnitMaterial)) / (∑Material Total-UnitMaterial) * 100 %
OEEMachine = Availability * Output * Quality / 1,000,000
MTBF = TPROD / Number of Faults
MTTR = Duration of Faults / Number of Faults
TPROD Useful operating time machine/unit productive operating time
TTARG Planned utilization time is the time during which operation of the machine/aggregate was planned
according to the plant schedule
TPROB is the time during which there were technical problems on the machine/unit
Planning data parameters:
The program reads the following parameters from the customizing data:
• Flag indicating whether works calendar being used:
General parameters > GLOB > WITH_SHIFT
This parameter defines how the planned utilization time is calculated (see below).
• Flag indicating whether BDE data acquisition is taking place (quantities, part types):
General parameters > GLOB > WITH_BDE_ACQUISITION
This parameter defines how the number of units and the target cycle time are calculated (see
below).
With plant schedule: time types option:
The “time types” option is used to define the works calendar time types to which the evaluation relates.
The following restrictions apply:
‘Current’ period
The customized time types are not taken into consideration. The entire duration is analysed in all
cases.
‘Shift’, ‘Day’, ‘Week’, ‘Month’, ‘Year’ period
The customized time types are taken into consideration when calculating the useful operating time,
the general faults and technical faults.
You can select either “Entire period”, in which case data is accumulated for the entire period, or
one or more time types such as “Working Time”, “Break”, “Free Time” etc. In this case the data is
accumulated in the period for these time types.
For example, this can be used to calculate what the OEE indicators were during working hours.
Time type selection is independent of status group.
2-2 © Siemens AG 2000-2003 All Rights Reserved
MDA Machine/Cell Machine Evaluations
Calculation of planned utilization time TTARG:
with plant schedule (WITH_SHIFT = 1)
- ‘Shift’, ‘Day’, ‘Week’, ‘Month’, ‘Year’ period
TTARG = Total time for “Working Time” time type for all statuses
Times in “DAUER_0" column in the “SCHICHTSUMME", “TAGESSUMME" tables are totalled...
The customized utilization time and time types are ignored in this case.
Note: the planned utilization time for free shifts and maintenance shifts is 0 with “Shift”
compression.
- “Current” period
TTARG = Total duration of all customized statuses
In this case the times in the “DAUER_SEK” column are totaled in the reports for all statuses
that were marked in the “Planned utilization time” column when the OEE indicators were
planned.
The time type customization is ignored in this case.
• Without plant schedule (WITH_SHIFT = 0)
TTARG = Total duration of all customized statuses
In this case the times in the “DAUER_SEK” column in the “TAGESSUMME” tables are totaled for
the statuses that were marked in the “Planned utilization time” column when the OEE indicators
were customized.
Quantity calculations:
• If BDE Acquisition (WITH_BDE_ACQUISITION = 1) is being used, the part type quantities in the
“BDE_SCHICHTSUMME”, “BDE_TAGESSUMME”, ... tables are totaled.
The total quantity is calculated from the sum total of the “DE_DELTA_A_S“, “DE_DELTA_B_S“
and “DE_DELTA_C_S“ columns.
The scrap quantity is taken from the “DE_DELTA_B_S“ column.
• If BDE Acquisition (WITH_BDE_ACQUISITION = 0) is not being used, the machine/unit
quantities in the “SCHICHTSUMME“, “TAGESSUMME“, ... tables are totaled.
The total quantity is calculated from the sum total of the “DE_VAL_A”, “DE_VAL_B“ and
“DE_VAL_C“ columns for all statuses in the period.
The scrap quantity is taken from the “DE_VAL_B“ column.
Target cycle time calculations:
• If BDE Acquisition (WITH_BDE_ACQUISITION = 1) is being used, the part type target cycle
times in the “BDE_SCHICHTSUMME“, “BDE_TAGESSUMME“, ... tables are totaled.
The target cycle time is taken from the “CYCLE_TOT_TARG“ columns. If this column is
unoccupied, the actual cycle time “CYCLE_TOT_ACT“ is used instead of the target cycle time.
• If BDE Acquisition (WITH_BDE_ACQUISITION = 0) is not being used, the machine/unit cycle time
is used. If this is 0, the output is set to 0%.
Notes:
• If the planned utilization time TTARG is equal to the technical fault time TPROB, the output is set to “0“.
If the planned utilization time TTARG = 0, this period is not displayed (e.g. free shifts, maintenance shifts).

• ‘Status conditions to be displayed’ list: The system enters all the status conditions of the status
group in the list. The status conditions that are to be displayed in the graphic are indicated by a
check mark (tick).
• Minimum duration, minimum frequency, status type and sorting:
The values that are stored in the evaluation definition are displayed.
• Time types:
This frame is only displayed if you are working with the works calendar.
The time types that are taken into consideration in this evaluation definition are entered.
Meanings of the screen form fields:
You use this screen form to create several evaluation definitions.
In each evaluation definition you specify, for each of the status groups that you are using, the status
conditions that the system is to display in the ”analysis of reason for disturbance” and ”status analysis”
graphics.
The ”minimum duration” and ”minimum frequency” stipulations allow you to specify that the system
only displays status conditions in the graphic whose durations – totaled over the selected time range – are
greater than or equal to the minimum duration defined here and whose frequencies are greater than or
equal to the minimum frequency defined here.
The system only displays the "Status type" pick list if you are working with parallel status conditions in
your plant.
In the ”Status type” pick list, you specify, for the ”analysis of reason for disturbance” and ”status analysis”
graphics whether the system is to display ”All status conditions” or ”Highest priority status conditions
only”.
With the ”Analysis of disturbance cause”, this selection only affects the ”Current” status type.
In the case of ”All status conditions”, the system displays the data of the log i.e. parallel status conditions
are also considered.
In the case of ”Highest priority status conditions only”, the system displays the data of the ”Prioritized log”.
This log contains for each time slice only the highest priority status.
In the ”Sorting” pick list, you specify how the data is sorted in the ”Analysis of reason for disturbance”
graphic. There are four sorting criteria to choose from:
• ‘Status numbers’
• ‘Status designations’ - alphabetical list of status names
• ‘Duration’
• ‘Frequency’
“Time Types“ is used to define the works calendar time types to which the evaluation relates in the
“Analysis of disturbance cause” graphic. This selection is only displayed if you are working with the works
calendar.
The following restrictions apply:
• The time types are not taken into consideration in the ‘Current’ period during which the logs are
evaluated. The entire period is always evaluated in this case.
The time types are only taken into consideration in the “Shift”, “Day”, “Week”, “Month” and “Year”
compressions.
• The status frequency in the ‘Analysis of disturbance cause’ evaluation always relates to the entire
period. Only the status duration can be calculated for each time type.
• Select either ‘Entire Period’, in which case the status duration is accumulated over the entire
period, or select one or more time types such as “Working Time”, “Break”, “Free Time” etc., in
which case the status duration will be accumulated for the period for these time types.
For example, this can be used to determine how long disturbances existed during working time.

This only has an effect with time type ”Current”. For the other time types, there are only
evaluations by highest priority status conditions.
• Graphic: Data of the period
Operator inputs in the screen form:
In the screen form, you can
• choose a machine and a unit in pick lists,
• specify a time range.
If you choose a single machine in the "Machine" pick list, the system displays in the "Units" pick list all the
units of this machine.
If you choose the asterisk (*) entry in the "Machine" pick list, the "Units" pick list shows all the units and all
the machines of the current plant.
If you use wildcards to enter a filter in the ”Machine” pick list (e.g. mill*), the "Units" pick list shows the

Important! The system only enters units in the unit list that match the ”Machine” selection and for whose
status group status conditions are selected in the chosen ”evaluation definition”.
Period Types:
In MDA, the statistical data is stored in different degrees of compression:
• ‘Current’ - Current log or current priority log
This contains the latest status conditions and goes back a fixed number of entries into the past.
You specify the maximum number of entries in the log by means of configuration.
The system reads the data out of the ”log” if you are working with parallel status conditions and
you chose status type ”Display all status conditions” in the evaluation definition.
Otherwise, the system takes the data from the ”priority log”.
• ‘Shift’” - Compression for shifts
The total status time for each unit is stored for each shift.
The number of shifts in the shift compression is defined by means of configuration.
The “Shift” time type is only displayed if you are using the works calendar.
The days and the shift numbers are assumed to have separate “from” - “to” ranges.
Example:
If “2” is entered in shift number “from” and “4” is entered as shift number “to”, shifts 2, 3
and 4 are evaluated for all days in the entered period.
• ‘Day’ - Compression for days
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for every day.
You specify the number of days in day compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Week’ - Compression for weeks
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for every week.
You specify the number of weeks in week compression by means of configuration.

• ‘Month’ - Compression for months
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for every month.
You specify the number of months in month compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Year’ - Compression for years
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for every year.
You specify the number of years in year compression by means of configuration.
Using the ”Period” pick list, you can choose the current log or priority log (”Current”) or a compression
range (“Shift”, ”Day”, ”Week”, ”Month”, ”Year”).
Contents of the graphic:
The system only shows the status conditions that are selected in the evaluation definition for the status
group of the chosen unit and whose minimum frequencies and minimum durations are greater than or
equal to the minimum values that are specified in the evaluation definition.
If the minimum frequency and minimum duration are set to 0, the system displays all the data.
If none of the status conditions meets the stipulations, a message is issued.
The following applies to time type ”Current” only: If the current instant is displayed in the graphic, the
system determines the currently pending status conditions and includes them in the statistical calculation
in addition to the status data in the log.
If it is not possible to display all the status conditions in the visible area of the graphic, you can use the

Sub-status conditions are marked by a greater than character (>).
Calculation of Duration when Time Types are Selected in the Evaluation Definition:
If you use the MDA works calendar on your system, the evaluation definition can be used to define the
works calendar time types to which the status durations relate.
• Select either ‘Entire Period’, in which case the status duration is accumulated over the entire
period.
• If you have selected one or more time types such as “Working Time”, “Break”, “Free Time” etc.,
the status duration will be accumulated for the period for these time types.
For example, this can be used to determine how long the disturbances existed during working
time.

You specify the number of years in year compression by means of configuration.
Using the ”Time types” pick list, you can choose the current log or priority log (”Current”) or a compression
range (”Day”, ”Week”, ”Month”, ”Year”).
The following applies to time type ”Current” only: If the current instant is displayed in the graphic, the
system determines the currently pending status condition with the highest priority and includes them in the
statistical calculation in addition to the status data in the priority log.
Explanations of the data in the screen form:
• Legend and graphic:
In the legend, the status conditions are sorted from top to bottom in the same way as the system
displays them from right to left in the graphic.
3-28 © Siemens AG 2000-2003 All Rights Reserved
MDA Machine/Cell Machine Evaluations
The legend and the graphic are divided by a line into two areas.
In the top section of the legend and in the left-hand section of the graphic, the system outputs the
status conditions that are included in availability.
In the bottom section of the legend and in the right-hand section of the graphic, you can see the
status conditions that are not included in availability.
In the availability analysis only the main status conditions will be taken into account.
• Bar labels:
The system outputs above each bar the duration of the status in the selected time range. Below
this, there is a display of the time's percentage share of the ”operating time” or the ”total time”.
Configuring the graphic:
Using the ”Parameter. Availability” pushbutton you can display a follow up screen form in which you can
edit the settings for calculating the availability and the display.
Data Calculation when Time Types are Selected in the Evaluation Definition:
If you use the MDA works calendar on your system, the OEE code configuration can be used to define the
works calendar time types to which the status durations relate.
The time types are taken into consideration in the calculation of the planned usage time, the total time, the
status bar and the “Availability” and “Utilization“ codes.
• The data over the entire period is accumulated when using the ‘Total Time’ time type.
If you have selected one or more time types such as “Working Time”, “Break”, “Free Time” etc., the
data is accumulated for these time types for the period.
This can be used to calculate availability during working time, for example.
• Total Time: Sum total of duration of all main statuses.
Data refresh:
You can set a refresh time for the screen form in the configuration:
”General Parameters > GUI_MDE > GRAPHIC_CYCLE”.
Click on the OK button or press the ENTER-key if you want to update the screen form.

Time types
In MDA the statistical data are stored in different degrees of compression:
• ‘Current’ - Current log or current priority log
It contains the latest status conditions and goes back a fixed number of entries into the past.
You specify the maximum number of entries by means of configuration.
The system reads the data out of a "log" if you are working with parallel status conditions and you
chose status type "Display all status conditions" in the evaluation condition.
Otherwise, the system takes the data from the "priority log".
• ‘Shift’ - Compression for shifts
The total status times per machine/unit are stored for each shift.
The number of shifts in the shift compression is defined by means of configuration.
The days and the shift numbers are assumed to have separate “from” - “to” ranges.
Example:
If “2” is entered in shift number “from” and “4” is entered as shift number “to”, shifts 2, 3
and 4 are evaluated for all days in the entered period
• ‘Day’ - Compression for days
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each day.
You specify the number of days in the day compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Week’ - Compression for weeks
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each week.
You specify the number of weeks in the week compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Month’ - Compression for months
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each month.
You specify the number of months in the month compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Year’ - Compression for years

unit starts in the left section with the name of the machine or unit.
The system only shows the status conditions that are selected in the evaluation definition for the status
group of the chosen unit and whose minimum frequencies and minimum durations - totaled over the
selected time range - are greater than or equal to the minimum values that are specified in the evaluation
definition.
If the minimum frequency and minimum duration are set to "0", the system displays all the data.
If none of the status conditions meets the stipulations, a message is issued.
The system reads the data out of a "log" if you are working with parallel status conditions and you chose
status type "Display all status conditions" in the evaluation condition.
Otherwise, the system takes the data from the "priority log".
If the current instant is displayed in the graphic, the system determines the currently pending status
conditions and includes them in the statistical calculation in addition to the status data in the log.
Status conditions that are less than one pixel wide in the graphic are suppressed and you cannot see
them until you zoom the time axis.
If status conditions are suppressed, the system displays the number of invisible status conditions on the
message line.
If it is not possible to display all the status conditions in the visible area of the graphic, you can use the
vertical scroll bar to view the other status conditions.
Sub-status conditions are marked by a greater than character ">".
The system can read a maximum of 2000 status conditions for one time range. If there are more status
conditions in the time range, the system issues a message and displays the first 2000 status conditions.
Zooming the time axis:
Using the "Zoom" field, you can set the distribution of the time axis between 1% and 100 %.
You can use the "up" and "down" cursor keys to choose one of the default values (100% - 75% - 50% -
25% - 10% - 1%). You can also enter a number between 1 and 100 directly.
A zoom value of 10 % means that the time axis takes 10% of the time range in the window.
The maximum distribution of the time axis is five minutes for the graphic that is displayed in the window. If
you enter a zoom size that is too low, the system sets it to the lowest possible value for the current time
range.

Operator inputs in the screen form:
! In the screen form, you can choose an analysis group from a pick list and
! specify a time type and a time range.
If it is not possible to display all the machines and units of the analysis group in the visible area of the
graphic, you can use the horizontal scroll bar to view the other charts.
If you choose another analysis group or change the time range, the system clears the graphic. When you
click on the OK button or when you press the ENTER-key, the system sets up the graphic with the current
specified data.
Time types:
In MDA, the statistical data is stored in different degrees of compression:
• ‘Current’ - Current priority log
It contains the latest status conditions and goes back a fixed number of entries into the past.
You specify the maximum number of entries in the log by means of the configuration.
• ‘Shift’ - Compression for shifts
The total status times per machine/unit are stored for each shift.
The number of shifts in the shift compression is defined by means of configuration.
The days and the shift numbers are assumed to have separate “from” - “to” ranges.
Example:
If “2” is entered in shift number “from” and “4” is entered as shift number “to”, shifts 2, 3
and 4 are evaluated for all days in the entered period.
• ‘Day’ - Compression for days
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each day.
You specify the number of days in the day compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Week’ - Compression for weeks
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each week.
You specify the number of weeks in the week compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Month’ - Compression for months
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each month.
You specify the number of months in the month compression by means of configuration.
• ‘Year’ - Compression for years
The system stores the total times of the status conditions per unit for each year.
You specify the number of years in the year compression by means of configuration.
Using the "Time types" pick list you can choose the current log or priority log ("Current") or a compression
range (“Shift”, "Day", "Week", "Month", "Year").
The following applies to time type "Current": If the current instant is displayed in the graphic, the system
determines the currently pending status condition with the highest priority and includes them in the
statistical calculation in addition to the status data in the priority log.
Data Calculation when Time Types are Selected in the Evaluation Definition:
If you use the MDA works calendar on your system, the development of the OEE code can be used to
define the works calendar time types to which the status durations relate.

MDA Machine/Cell Machine Evaluations
The time types are taken into consideration in the calculation of the planned usage time, the total time, the
status bar and the “Availability” and “Utilisation“ codes.
• The data over the entire period is accumulated when using the ‘Total Time’ time type.
If you have selected one or more time types such as “Working Time”, “Break”, “Free Time” etc., the
data is accumulated for the period for these time types.
This can be used to calculate availability during working time, for example.
• Total Time: Sum total of duration of all main statuses.
Explanations of the data in the screen form:
• Legend and graphic:
In the legend, the main status conditions of the first machine displayed on the left are displayed
in the same order as you find them in the bar chart for the machine.
The legend and the bar chart are subdivided into two sections by a line.
In the top section of the legend of the bar chart the status conditions that are not included in the
availability are displayed.
In the bottom section of the legend and the bar chart you see the status conditions that are
included in the availability.
Only the main status conditions will be taken into account in the availability analysis.
• Bar labels:
Above each bar the availability ”V” and the capacity utilization ”A” of the machine or the unit in the
selected time period will be given.
If it is long enough, the duration for the bar and below it that value expressed as a percentage of
the "operating time" and "total time" is displayed in each bar.
Using the "parameterization of availability" screen form, you can specify whether the system is to
output percentages and, if so, the time to which the percentages refer.
Above the graphic, the operating time and the total time of the first machine displayed on the left
is output. Next to it, you can see to what the percentages in your graphic refer.
Configuring the graphic:
With the "Parameter availability" button you can call up a follow up screen in which you can edit settings
for calculating the availability and the display.
Data refresh:
You can set a refresh time for the screen form in the configuration:
”General Parameters > GUI_MDE > GRAPHIC_CYCLE”.
Click on the OK button or press the ENTER-key if you want to update the screen form.
See also Chapter “Grouping Status Conditions”.
For a definition of the analysis groups see Chapter “Definition of Evaluation Groups”.
