1 Technical requirements

"Olympus 2207" is a total conversion modification of

the game "Fallout 2", which means that the game
has the same technical requirements and limitations
as the original Fallout 2, except for the features
listed below:

The game uses the "sfall" extension (by Timeslip), which allows the game to
be run on Windows XP and above and improves overall picture quality. To work
correctly, sfall need to have the latest version of DirectX9.0c installed, including
the D3DX9_42.dll library.

To make the game work in its standard resolution of 800x600 the "High
Resolution Patch" (by Mash) extension is used. For correct work, this extension
also requires latest DirectX9.0c version.
Game DOESN’T WORK correctly with resolutions below 800x600.
It should work with resolutions above 800x600, but the stability of the work
is not guaranteed.

2 The World of Olympus 2207

The game is set in an alternate diesel-punk

universe in the year 2207 on the ruins of the Silicon
Valley of the Great States of America. The Global
Nuclear War for Resources between the Great States and
the Russian Empire happened back in 2013, destroying
most of humanity and technology. Only the lonely
"Olympus" skyscraper managed to somehow avoid the
destruction from the nuclear bombardments. A lucky few
managed to take refuge in it during the war and survive,
resulting in a creation of a closed society of "Servants" and "Gods”. The Servants
carry their burdens in the basements of the skyscraper, "Tartarus," keeping the
tower's mechanisms in order, growing vegetables and breeding cattle. Over several
generations, the propaganda of the Heralds has led the Servants to believe that there
is no life outside of Tartarus, and it is only because of their service and the will of the
Gods that this world has not yet collapsed.
Following a chain of events, the game's protagonist finds himself outside of
Tartarus - in the scorched wasteland surrounding a skyscraper.
This territory is called “Radius”.

Page 3
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

As you travel through Radius,

remember the basic rules of survival:
1. To approach Olympus is
FORBIDDEN! The tower rises in
the center of this little world, and
every child knows that the tower
is safe, secure, and full of food.
Everyone wants to get there, but
the ways to Olympus are heavily
guarded by armored warriors,
calling themselves "Defenders".
They have only one order - do not
let anyone near. Try to stay away
from the skyscraper.
2. Many animals and insects of the valley mutated during two hundred years of life
in a brutal environment and have become extremely dangerous! Do not get into
fights with monsters until you've studied what kinds of damage they are
vulnerable to.
3. RADIATION! The whole earth is saturated with deadly radiation. Take “Radiom”
pills to reduce your exposure, and stock up on “RadOut” injections to get the
radiation out of you. The more radiation your body accumulates - the more
miserable your further existence will be!
4. Radius exists and thrives thanks to four main locations, providing each other
with water, food, weapons and drugs. Living in the Radius you take part in this
system. Try to find the “right” people and earn their respect. Remember - you
can't survive alone.
5. Capitalize on your strengths! Can't talk your conversation partner into giving
you his gun? Steal it! Can't steal? Take it off a dead body! But be careful and
remember the rule number 4: If you turn the whole location against you, your
life will be very difficult.

In Radius you will meet a lot of characters with different worldviews. Each of
them has his own approach, but do not try to please everyone - it can come back
with circumstances not only to you personally, but also to the entire settlement.
Think when making the decisions.

Page 4
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

3 Role-Playing System
For the most part the game uses the Fallout 2 role-playing system, but
sometime there are significant differences.

3.1 “Mechanical memory” trait

When creating your character, you can pick the

“Mechanical memory” trait. In this case, at the
start of the game all your stats will be reduced
by one point, but in return you will receive a
unique system of increasing your skills when
you use them! At the same time, you will still
receive skill points at each new level of the hero
- they can be distributed at your discretion.

The more actively you use your skills, the greater the bonus you receive. However,
there is a number of limitations: the skill growth depends of the character’s level,
together with the minimum number of successful skill uses.
For example, if you use a “small guns” skill to kill enemies, a level 10 hero
needs to kill 15 creatures with a light weapon to increase the “small guns” skill by 1%,
and he can increase his skill 10 times at that level. Thus, even without allocating
experience points to the skill "hand weapons" by the 16th level of the hero the skill
will be 136%! A similar scheme is used for "First Aid", "Steal" and other active skills.
Passive skills like "sneak" will increase automatically with each new acquired level of
the hero.

3.2 Stealing skill

The process of embezzling the contents of other people's pockets is divided into
two parts:
 First, you need to get into those pockets to
see what's valuable in there at all. When
trying to get into other people's pockets
many factors are taken into consideration -
lighting, observability of the victim, your
location in relation to the victim, your
agility and, of course, level of your stealing
skills. Additionally, a pair of silk gloves can
greatly assist you in this difficult task. If
your chances of successfully going through
someone's pockets is low, then there's a 25% option that the victim will notice
your mischief and take offense (often resulting in attacking you). To assess your

Page 5
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

chances of success, use the "Science" skill on the potential object of theft.
 After successful access to someone’s inventory the original mechanics from Fallout
2 come into play. Namely the smaller the item you are trying to drag into your
inventory and the higher your theft skill is, the better your chances of success are.
If you fail, the victim will attack you.

Keep in mind that in order to steal from merchants your skill must be at least 90-
100%. The skill requirements depend on the value of the merchant's items.

3.3 Doors
You will be surprised how many interesting manipulations can be done with
doors other than opening and closing! If the door is locked - of course you can try to
unlock it with the lock-picking skill. You can use picks for opening mechanical locks
and electric lock picks for opening electric doors. You can also try short-circuit the
electric lock by applying a screwdriver to the door and then "examining" the insides of
the panel with “Science”. True, you may get an electric shock if the attempt is
unsuccessful, and not every electric lock can be opened in this way.
If your lock-picking skill is low, but the door is wooden and you have a stick of
dynamite in your pocket, feel free to put the explosive under the door and move far
away. Or you can try to bend the lock with the crowbar, but it all depends on your
strength.
You can also use the door as a means to a stealth-assassination, booby-
trapping the door with an explosive or electric trap, and pushing another character to
open it. All you have to do after is pick up the victim's belongings that have scattered
around! You can assemble traps for doors in the HMS crafting system after learning
from someone how to do it.

3.4 HMS crafting system

“Hand Made System” is your way to
assemble unique items from various junk.
Using HMS you can create serrated knives,
traps, armor, homemade grenades, and
even a Rocket Launcher! Of course, to be
able to craft something you need to know
how to do it. Some recipes will become
available by completing quests, others can be purchased from local traders, and some
you'll learn on your own when you level up. But just knowing how to assemble the
rocket launcher is not enough: you will need not only the right parts, but also high
level of a certain skill. If your repair skill is high enough, HMS will tell you which
characteristics you need to improve to successfully assemble an item. Using the HMS
efficiently and skillfully will help you greatly.

Page 6
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

4 Combat system
The combat system of the game is fully transferred from Fallout – with some
changes, of course

4.1 Melee
A melee weapon is the most reliable one! It
doesn't need ammo, is quite deadly, and is harder to
miss an enemy than using a gun. As you travel through
Radius you will come across various melee weapons,
from corkscrew and pipe wrench to electric hammer,
but remember - the efficiency of using such weapons
depends not only on your melee skills, but also on your
strength and your opponent's agility!

4.2 Throwing weapons

Throwing weapons are slightly weaker than
hammers and sledges, but you can deal significant
damage to the foe before it gets to you! Plus, throwing
weapons require very few action points. The best tactic
in the early levels is to pelt your enemies with throwing
knives and when they get close to you, finish them off
with the sledgehammer! And if you have a high enough
strength, and you've picked up a milling disk somewhere,
there's a good chance to hack the enemy in two!

Page 7
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

4.3 Firearms
Firearms are the most common in the
world of the game. One can think it’s the most
valuable thing to have, but don’t be fooled,
because it is not the guns damage the enemies,
but the bullets fired from them!

There are two types of ammunition in the

game:
1. Rare and expensive factory-made
ammo, left over from the Great War.
2. Common and cheap homemade
cartridges of local manufacturers. Such ammo
deal rather low damage and some types of armor
simply cannot be penetrated by them!

When evaluating the effectiveness of a

weapon, pay attention to the following factors:
- The base damage of the weapon itself.
Usually, it is a random value, set by limit
numbers.
- The damage modifier of the loaded
ammo. Usually custom-made ammo only does ½
or ⅔ of the weapon's base damage. You can
always check this parameter by "inspecting" the
ammo.
- Enemy armor level. Enemy armor, like your armor, has a "penetration" and
"damage absorption" parameter. Armor of a sufficiently high level can painlessly
reflect damage up to 8-10 units.

A quick example: You picked up a powerful hunting rifle with the damage output of 28-32,
and loaded it with custom-made ammunitions. When you shoot, the basic damage of the
weapon (say - 30) multiplies it by the ammunition quality parameter (⅔ ), so the bullet
flying at your opponent deals only 20 points of damage. Having reached the enemy, the
bullet meets his armor – so, the damage is reduced by the opponent's armor penetration
parameter (for example - 8) and armor damage absorption parameter (for example -
25%). Thus the enemy will receive: ((30 * ⅔ ) - 8) - (((30 * ⅔ ) - 8) * 0.25) = 9 points of
damage.

But it's not all so sad! Try to find a 50 cal. weapon with a proper ammunition,
and pieces of flesh will fly off your opponents in all directions! Also the factory-made
cartridges of 9mm bullets with shifted center of gravity (that increases damage level
TWO times!) and 12 cal. gauge can be very effective. Of course, such ammunition is
rare and expensive, but the result is worth it!

Page 8
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

4.4 Mines and explosives

Mines and remotely controlled explosives, just like door traps, are considered
“tactical” weapons: if someone gets blown to pieces by stepping on your mine, other
locals won't suspect you of it!
Mines can be found infrequently, but they can be very
effective for eliminating patrolling characters. Or you can discreetly
"push" someone into a mined area. To activate a mine simply throw
it at your feet, step back - and use your "traps" skill on the mine.
The higher the skill, the harder it will be for other characters to
detect your mine. Just be careful trying to pick up your own mine!
If it is activated, deactivate it first by re-using your "traps" skill on it.

The remotely controlled C4

explosive allows you to decide
when to detonate it! for this you
need a radio detonator and the
explosives itself. Place the charge
on the ground according to the
mine principle described above, take the detonator in your active hand and move far
away. As soon as the moment is right - press the detonator and enjoy the fireworks!
You can lay a second charge, but then you have to use the remote deactivator to
"detach" the previous charge from the detonator.

5 Characters, karma and reputation

When dealing with the problems you face, remember that each decision affects
your karma and the attitude towards you of both individual characters and entire
locations. Your karma level affects the lines available in the dialogues, the options for
solving quests and even the availability of these quests. Be careful when choosing
which side of good and evil to take. Sometimes a quick and easy decision can
eventually lead to very bad
results!

Page 9
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

6 Trade
For the most part, you can get valuable items by stealing, using extortion or
simply collecting them from corpses, but the most accessible way is fair trade and
barter. In Radius you can collect various valuable (and not so valuable) things that
you find around the locations you visit, and exchange them with traders for what you
need. Another way is to get rewards in the form of batteries for doing various tasks,
to then exchange them at the merchants for different things. Batteries are the
currency in the game world. The number of batteries is limited and they cannot be
counterfeited, so the locals value them and use them everywhere as money.

Haggling for valuable goods, remember that the final price affects your
“barter” skill, and how popular you are in the current settlement. If you kill and
rob local residents and their children, don’t wait for a discount from the merchant!

7 Medications
In the post-war world, you can still find some pre-war miracle remedies that
allow you to temporarily increase your characteristics, restore your health, or detoxify
your body from poison and radiation. The list of known meds is below.
Bandages. The easiest way to patch yourself up. Bandages were produced in
large quantities before the war by the “National Techologies” Co. Have no side effects
and are quite common.
Analgesic (syrup). An unnamed kind of painkiller produced by “Rainbow
Pharmaceuticals” in huge quantities before the war. Basically, all the cans were stolen
by looters and dealers from the company’s bombed warehouses.
"Heal-Up" (injection). A rather expensive drug,
developed on the basis of the "Surge" injection, and then
adapted for civilian market. Mainly used to keep the wounded
alive until hospitalization. It has some side effects, which
were usually treated by doctors when the injured made it to
the hospital.
“Surge” (injection). Developed by “Rainbow
Pharmaceuticals” for the U.S. Department of Defense. The

Page 10
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

enormous costs of producing the drug made it available only to elite units of Marines.
Not only it has tremendous healing potential, but it also increases patient’s
characteristics for a short period of time. In an attempt to reduce production costs,
the drug was given a narcotic effect. As a result, fighters fought and performed deadly
missions only for a dose of “Surge”.
“Poison-Out” (pills). The medicine’s name speaks
for itself. Developed by “Rainbow Pharmaceuticals” for local
use. As its advertisement says: “Poisoning wife? “Poison-
Out”!”
Fruit Antidote (syrup). A frighteningly stinky, brewed concoction made of
apples, pears, and, probably, Lavash secretions. Gives you a little inner glow, but
it’s still a great way to flush out the poison. Possible lethal effect.
“RadOut”. Developed by “Rainbow Pharmaceuticals” for local
use by the order of the Department of Civil Defense. A reliable anti-
radiation drug. Was. 200 years ago.
Wild Potion. Another homemade brew made from the poison glands of
scorpions, RadOut and pears. Pears give the decoction a tangy sour taste of rotten
fruit. Great thing to use against radiation.
“Radiom” (tablets). Mainly used by the military and in
the means of dealing with sabotaged nuclear power plants.
Proves to be excellent against the accumulation of radiation in
the body. Unfortunately, after its effect wears off, the user’s
body becomes more sensitive to radiation than before usage,
but it’s temporary.
“Resistanol” (syrup). Mint syrup for soldiers, making them insensitive to
injuries and cuts. Side effects include acne, boils, diarrhea, and low self-esteem.
Addictive.
“Combatid” (Injection). One of the results of the
super-soldier creation program. According to the plan, the
drug was to be used in a combination with “Surge”, which
in reality often led to the death of users. The production of
expensive “Combatid” was stopped eventually, although,
you can still find some injectors with the drug somewhere in Radius.
“Brainiac” (nasal spray). If you suddenly have an urge to show
off your intellect, but nature has left you a little short on that, then
“Brainiac” is your way to go. The spray is instantly absorbed into the
blood, stimulating the activity of the brain cells. True, the drug has
undesirable effects such as risk of stroke and impotence, but you can
never have "all at once"!
“Stronghold” (moisturizing cream). A jar of cream to rub into
the muscles, increasing their size. Dangerous, can cause dystrophy and
severe addiction as a side effect. This didn't stop it from becoming very
popular in its day among athletes and high school kids.
The “Drop” (vial). A drug produced by Rainbow Raiders in their

Page 11
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

factory. Stimulates the whole body for a short time, but the euphoria passes
quickly and you probably won't like the withdrawal effects.
Whiskey. This poisonous drink will make you as tough as a buffalo. A
hangover is inevitable.
Cognac. A rare and expensive alcohol. Its aroma gives away you as a rich
and noble person. Everyone will definitely want to be friends with you.
“Booze”. No one knows what it is, everyone brews it from whatever they
can get their hands on. The only upside is that it takes out a little radiation.
“Spot-Up”. The famous soda. Divinely delicious and
invigorating, it lifts your mood and self-esteem. Hundreds of
investigations have been conducted by the government to find
out if it contains any drugs in its recipe, but nothing has ever
been proven.
Dried apple. No one knows when or why this apple dried, but who
cares? It's still edible, though it glows slightly in the dark.
Dried pear. It's like fruit candy A rare and tasty find. It also
removes the radiation you get from eating apples.

8 Bestiary
The fauna of this world is extremely dangerous! Even a tame sand jackal can
bite you if he doesn't like you! When have a chance to run away from an animal you
encounter in Radius, RUN! Below you’ll find a list of who to run away from in the
fastest way possible.

Chimeras - the terrifying result of NCASTR's special

program to create a trained watchdog predator. Tame Chimeras
are often accompany Defenders while patrolling the area around
Olympus, and they will not attack you without direct orders. Things
get more serious when you need to deal with the wild ones. An
encounter with this monster, especially in the early stages of the
game, is likely to end up transforming you into a piece of shapeless
meat dish.

Onca Devil - The mutated black Californian jaguar. A very

nimble predator, armed with sharp and blade-like long claws. The
main danger of Oncas is that they hunt in packs.

Ursa - a mutant bear that prefers to settle

near the mountains. It is a tank in the world of local fauna.
Quite slow, but it has a very rough hide, and its paw strike is as
strong as a hammer blow!

Page 12
An «Olympus 2207» Survival Guide

Scorpions and Ant Lions are mutated insects. They

were carnivores, and still are. Beware of their poisonous
bites! Even if you don't die right away, a strong dose of
venom will finish you off a little later. Use poison-removing
agants after a battle with these insects!

Jackals are quite dangerous foes, found everywhere

in Radius. Jackals rarely roam alone, and a pack of 3-4
jackals is capable of tearing even an Ursa to shreds!

9 Survival tips

Tip #1: Listen carefully!

Many characters are willing to share valuable information with you. It can help
you to thrive a little longer in the dangerous world of Radius.
Tip #2: Feel free to check the shelves and drawers!
The most unexpected places can contain extremely useful items and tools.
Tip #3: Avoid fighting!
Don't insult dangerous characters and don't go unarmed into the mountains and
the outskirts of Radius.
Tip #4: If you can't remember, write it down!
It's not uncommon for locals to tell you some valuable information that you just
might forget after another day of fighting for survival. Get yourself a notebook.
Tip #5: Save often!
Before going into Radius, a battle, trying to steal or act smart, save!
Tip #6: Think!
Seriously, your mind is your biggest helper in adventures in Radius. If you don't
know what to do next, and the characters won't give you any clues - use logic to find
a solution. In most cases, it will work!

10 FAQ

Troubleshooting

ATTENTION! When using cheat programs, other people's saves and

modifying the game files, crashes and freezes are possible! Use cheats at your
own risk!

Q: The game does not start because of the "d3dx9_42.dll".

A: You should install the latest version of DirectX9.0c from
http://www.microsoft.com/. Remember, having DirectX10 or 11 installed doesn't
mean you have DirectX9.0c installed too!

Q: The game won't run, it says "Fallout appears to be running in

compatibility mode" error.
A: The game will not run in compatibility mode. Turn off all compatibility
modes in the properties of “olympus.exe” executable file.

Q: The antivirus detects olympus.exe and/or ddraw.dll as a virus.

A: The official game build does not contain any viruses, but some antivirus
software can detect game files as potential viruses because they attempt to
tamper with the file system. Add the game files to your antivirus exclusion list.

Q: When you press Alt-TAB in the game, the message like "You do
not have the automan" appears, and won’t go away.
A: Try to press Alt-TAB again and then close the message. You can also hold
down the Esc key for a while. In the extreme case – turn off the game, then turn
it on. The problem should be solved.

General Questions

Q: What does the message "Character archetype is not defined" mean

at the beginning of the game?
A: When you create a character, you allocate basic stat points. Some
combinations determine what type of character you play, and depending on this, the
course of the game and some quests can change greatly.

Q: Why does my character die when moving around the global map?
A: Most likely, you has received a large dose of radiation or poison. This causes
him to lose life points over time and can lead to death. Try to remove the poison and
radiation from your body by using special medicines.

Q: Why can't I assemble an item in HMS?

A: You either do not have enough items to craft, or you do not have enough
skill points. To find out the required levels of characteristics, invest the skill points
into "repair" skill.

Q: The radiation is too strong and interferes with my game. Is there

any way to fix it?
A: Sure. Just go to the settings menu and lower the difficulty level to “easy”.

Q: The hero has a broken arm / leg, how can you fix them?
A: Find Dr. Hinder at the "NWO". He will heal your hero for batteries.

Q: Firearms do very little damage to enemies.

A: Load your weapon with factory-made ammunition instead of custom-made
bullets. Factory ammo can be found in random containers or bought from a merchant
at the "Sunset Jackals" location.

Q: Why at the beginning of the game all the stats of my character

decreased by one point?
A: Probably, you selected the "Mechanical Memory" feature, so the game starts
with the reduced hero characteristics.
