Chapter III
Getting Started
This chapter describes some of the common features of the software. Double-click on iTOWERS shortcut
on the desktop. The iTOWERS Designer Main window appears on the screen.
3.1 Getting Started/Recent Jobs/Other Jobs/Samples
Subsequently, a window, Getting Started/Recent Jobs/Other Jobs/Samples appears as shown in the
figure below.
Here, the user has the option to open an existing job by clicking the Other jobs menu, create a New job
by clicking the Getting Started menu or open the Recent jobs.
A. Getting Started key
Select the option Getting Started and specify the appropriate directory and job code name. Here, the
user can specify a code name for the job and the unit system whether MKS / SI in as shown in the figure
below.

Click OK after specifying the job code name, path and the unit system, then a window is displayed as
shown in the figure below.

Here the user can specify Tower specifications. A detailed description of these options is given in the
subsequent chapter 'Specifications'. The user may also view the design library, which is a collection of all
the towers designed previously.
B. Selecting a Recent Project
The User may select a recent job as shown in the following figure.

C. Selecting the Other Jobs
Select the option Other Job and browse through the various directories and select the required job.
While browsing the user may also view the description of the project and the type of project.
D. Samples
Select the option Samples and it displays the list of sample towers available in it. The users can select
the required sample tower and check the sample input in it.
E. Selecting the type of Project
The following categories are available:
1. Tower – To generate the tower.
2. Pattern – To create a new pattern and for storing in the library.
3.2 Organization of the Main window
A detailed description of the organization of the main window is given below.
a) The topmost line is the Title bar, which displays the title of the application. This bar also contains
three buttons on the right hand side to minimize, maximize and to close the present application, like
any other standard window-based application.

b) The second line from the top is the Menu Bar. It contains various menu options available under the
application. When you select any option, a drop-down menu appears, containing
sub-menu options similar to any other standard window-based application.
c) The third line from the top is Tool Bar. It contains various tool buttons the description of which shall
be given in the subsequent chapters.
d) There is a Short cut keys tool bar on the left-hand side of the main window. This can be dragged
and dropped on the main tool bar.
e) At the center, there is a graphical display screen, which displays graphics of the tower.
f) At the bottom of the main window, appears the Status Bar. This contains 4 panes:
Pane I: Displays the current status of the application.
Pane II: Displays instructions to the user about the next step of the operation.
Pane III: Allows the user to input the input parameters wherever required.
Pane IV: Displays the current surface and the substructure of the project.

The main menu of iTOWERS Designer software consists of the following sub-menu options.
1. File
2. Geometry
3. Inputs
4. Edit
5. Modules
6. View
7. Libraries
8. Tools
9. Pattern Properties
10. Help
The above sub-menu options are described in detail in the subsequent chapters.
3.3 Description of Common Features of the software
This software has ‘Graphical User Interface’ at all the levels and even a user with minimum knowledge of
windows concept can use this software efficiently. The common features are described in greater detail
below.
a) Menu “Ok / Cancel”: After specifying the input parameters in a window, the user can click the
button OK to save the input parameters. To cancel the input parameters specified in the current
window click the cancel button.
b) Menu “Save / Exit”: After specifying the input parameters in a window, the user can click the
button Save to save the input parameters. To cancel the input parameters specified in the current
window click the button Exit.
c) Menu “New / Back / Next / Insert / Delete / Ok”: During the editing process the user can move
between the records with the help of the options Next and Back. A new record can be added by using
the option New. Delete is for deleting the current record. The user can insert a new record using the
option Insert. This option will create a new record in between two records, whereas, the option New
will create a new record at the end of all the records. User can select the option OK to save all the
input parameters specified in the current window.
d) Menu “Add / Delete / Insert”: A sample window is shown in the figure below. The user can add the
data to the list using the option Add, insert data using the option Insert and delete data using the
option Delete. In some windows, a similar option is available to add the data to the list. These
options can be activated by clicking the right side button on the mouse.

Specifying the input parameters in edit boxes: Each dialogue box contains a description of the input
parameter and ‘edit box’ in which the data is to be entered by the user. The unit in which the data is to
be specified is given alongside the parameter. The data can be given by using the keyboard and mouse.
In order to give data in a particular edit box, locate the mouse pointer in the edit box and left-click and
then type the value to be input.
