which is the limit of the apparatus.

B. POST-APPLIED MEMBRANE FOR ELEVATED DECK

Bathroom Fixtures and Accessories • Domestic Kitchen • Industrial Kitchen and Laundry Equipment •
Surfaces (Resilient, Wood, Laminate and Ceramic) • Ironmongery • Plumbing • Waterproofing

PRE-APPLIED WATERPROOFING
Waterproofing shall be a 1.5mm thick, flexible, self-adhesive sheet
membrane comprising a rubber/bitumen compound and a grey coloured,
dimensionally stable, HDPE composite solar reflective film. The membrane
shall have a typical water vapour transmission rate of 0.06 g/m2/day
(ASTM E96-92) and be tested to withstand 70m hydrostatic head at laps
(ASTM D5385-93).

Additional Values

Tensile Strength Longitudinal 48.4 N/mm2 ASTM D638-91

(Carrier Film) Transverse 45.4 N/mm2

Puncture Resistance 280N ASTM E154-93

The membrane shall be specially formulated to allow application in hot climatic

conditions and provide a surface which is solar reflective to reduce heat gain while
the membrane is temporarily exposed. Installation shall be facilitated by factory
printed overlap lines to ensure correct alignment and minimum laps.

C. MATERIALS PROPOSED

Preprufe® 300R - horizontally & vertically

Preprufe® Tape HC - detailing work and end laps
Bituthene® LM - detailing and penetrations
Bitustik® - bonding waterstop to Preprufe
Bituthene 8000 HC - waterproofing of top of ground slab around
building (in areas not under tower foot print)
B1 Primer - primer for post applied membrane
Servipak 3 - protection board for post applied membrane
Serviseal AT240 - external waterstops for expansion/movement joints
Bitustik 240 - double sided adhesive tape for fixing waterstop on
Preprufe.
ADCOR 500S - Water bar for construction joints

3.0 EXECUTION
A. The installer shall examine conditions of substrates and other conditions
under which this work is to be performed and notify the Contractor, in
writing, of circumstances detrimental to the proper completion of the work.
Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.

3.1 INSTALLATION AND APPLICATIONS

All Surfaces - It is essential to create a sound and solid substrate to
eliminate membrane movement during the concrete pour. Substrates must
be regular and smooth with no gaps or voids greater that 12mm.

Horizontal Blinding - Substrate should be monolithic concrete. The

blinding must be free of loose aggregate, hollows and sharp protrusions. An
angular profiled blinding is recommended rather than a rounded substrate.

Section – Pre-Applied Waterproofing Page 7 of 9

Bathroom Fixtures and Accessories • Domestic Kitchen • Industrial Kitchen and Laundry Equipment •
Surfaces (Resilient, Wood, Laminate and Ceramic) • Ironmongery • Plumbing • Waterproofing

PRE-APPLIED WATERPROOFING
Preprufe® 300 R is a rigid sheet and will not stretch under the weight of
concrete to conform to undulations.

Vertical Application - Surfaces to be smooth, free of sharp protrusions and

true.

Top of Ground Slab – The substrate shall be prepared and primed as

recommended by the manufacturer, and the membrane installed with
overlaps and corner detailing formed and fully sealed with Preprufe 300 R,
all as recommended by the manufacturer. Immediately after laying. The
inspected membrane shall then be protected permanently by using robust,
rot proof protection boards of a minimum thickness as recommended by the
membrane supplier.

Steel pan formwork is acceptable but mechanical fixing of Preprufe® R is

not possible.

The membrane system shall be installed in strict accordance with

manufacturer’s instructions with overlaps and corner detailing formed and
fully sealed as recommended to prevent grout loss and potential water paths.

When setting forms and reinforcing steel caution shall be exercised to avoid
damage to the impervious membrane. The surface of the impervious
membrane extending outside the forms shall be protected during subsequent
operations.

Any puncture or damaged areas shall be cleaned and patched according to

manufacturer’s instructions.

Penetrations - Generally, piles, pipes etc. are sealed to the with Bituthene®
Liquid Membrane. Ensure pile or pipe surfaces that will receive Bituthene®
LM are clean, dry and free of contaminates/loose material. Cut Preprufe®
R close to penetration - ensure the membrane surface is clean dry and free
of contaminants. Mix and apply Bituthene® LM in accordance with
manufacturer’s Data Sheet to form a continuous fillet and provide a water-
tight seal between membrane and penetration.

3.2 Construction Joints

ADCOR 500S - a thick, conformable , hydro expansive waterstop for

preventing water entry through joints in concrete substructures. Based on
butyl polymer rubber, the strip swells on prolonged contact with water to
seal against concrete faces cast around it. The seal resists hydrostatic
pressures.

PRE-APPLIED WATERPROOFING
3.3 Expansion/Movement Joints

Serviseal AT240: a high security PVC waterstop system with co-extruded

hydrophilic end bulbs to provide a combination of active and passive
protection fro joints in concrete. AT240 waterstop can be combined with
Adcor 500S forming a continuous waterbar through the structure.

3.4 WATERBAR INCORPORATION

It is recommended that external waterbars (for expansion/movement joints)

be located/sealed against the Preprufe® R white adhesive surface with
Bitustik®. Ensure removal of all plastic release films in the areas to receive
Bitustik®.

Ensure the underside of the waterbar is clean dry and able to bond
continuously with the Bitustik®.

Apply Bitustik® to chosen line on Preprufe® R by progressively removing

lower silicone release paper, roll or press down firmly.

Apply waterbar to top surface of Bitustik® by progressively removing

Bitustik® top silicone release paper, roll and press down firmly.
