Plan of Investigation

Generation gap is a common issue faced in society. Many families experience a generation gap,

typically between grandparents and grandchildren but unfortunately it is not addressed enough.

Often beliefs of the current generation crash against the beliefs of the current generation which

causes conflicts between them. By research and common knowledge this will expand one's mind

into having personal opinions. While discussing this topic comprehension and interpretation

skills will be vital and will be developed as this topic has been in constant debate for years and

doesn’t have a definitive answer yet. Along with comprehending the issue, data will be collected

from articles, newspapers, and videos. This will help determine or prove how the generation gap

actively harms the newer generations.

Reflection 1

The video "Understanding Generation Gap" by perfect corner talks about how older generations

often say the newer generation is too "sensitive." A Quote that caught my attention was " there

wasn't generational conflict in the medieval times because Son, living the same lifestyle as

father, would agree. " It caught my attention because it states that sons must agree to the lifestyle

to avoid problems. Secondly the article "A Generation Gap" by Kirtika says the difference In

thinking patterns causes generational conflict. "They talk about some issues that cause tension

due to differences in mentality" I agree because older people believe they are always correct.

Lastly; the artifact "OK Boomer" by Brian Resnick says the generation gap is a never ending

conflict. "That's because 'kids these days" is an ancient form of antiquity" was a quote that

confused them because it means each generation will end up complaining about the younger one.

Reflection 2

The video understanding generation gap by the perfect corner has an informative tone which is

shown when it is explained how “a son is bound to choose the profession of his father and live

the same life which his father has lived” this enlightened my perspective on customs of our old

generation. Moreover, “A generation gap” by kirtika chaudhary brought forward an

understanding tone. in the article it stated that “keeping an open mind and not assuming that they

must be just like you is very important. This sentence gives a new and fresh perspective sharing

comfort and understanding. Lastly the last artifact “ok boomer’ by Brian Resnick comes forward

with a tired tone in this article the tone is tired of this issue constantly resurfacing “the old and

young are feuding yet again” and “it's a cycle we’re doomed to repeat” the author expresses that

the problem between old and young is repetitive and never ending,

Reflection 3

While doing this school based assessment I learnt about a topic that is debated very often,

Generation gap. all the research and constant arguments led to a new and fresh perspective. along

with this my research skills improved drastically with the ability to quickly locate relevant and

necessary information from a reliable source. Generation gap revolves around how different

generations are with one another, with each of them having different social norms, values and

perspectives. my group mates and i inquired the ability to accept everyone's opinions and take

constructive criticism when talking about the effects of our topic. often times when a group

member was lost it took patience and understanding to help them back on track leading us all to

achieve better patience levels. finally as a student this group based SBA has made me learn to

manage time in a more efficient and resourceful manner.

Group written report

My group chose the topic “Generation gap” Since we know this is a common problem faced by

everyone in our society. We did this by carefully brainstorming topics that are relevant to

problems that are found nowadays within our society and even in our modern-day families. That

is how we settled on the topic “Generation Gap” for our SBA. The other themes that came up

include family separation, different perspectives, and misinformation to list a few.

While investigating and doing research as a group we carefully chose artifacts that were reliable

and consistent with our subtopic,we carefully analyzed them, taking out the main points and

summarizing them. We discussed among our group members and came up with a conclusion of

our own opinions.

The article entitled, “10 life lessons we can learn from older generations” opens up how elders

have had much experience and are wiser. With that knowledge, they can bestow it on younger

generations to make the path of life/growing up easier. Whether it is small tips or big

life-changing stories it still teaches young ones to make wiser and mature decisions. In

conclusion, Valuing time, Taking responsibility, and appreciating what you have are all good

values and lessons taught by older generations to guide young ones to the right path.

In addition, another article entitled “Generation changes in communication style” brings out the

difference in communication style among each generation and how that affects the workplace.

Each generation has its own preferred method of sharing information, whether by phone or text,

but failing to consider who the information or message is being delivered to and dismissing that
9

person's mode of communication causes conflict among others. Respect is a big factor that takes

place in maintaining a healthier workplace between generations. Therefore, Elders and younger

generations must always act with manners and open mindedness between each other.
