GOAL 1: NO POVERTY

Brief Description:
The goal of "No Poverty" aims to end poverty in all its
forms everywhere. Poverty is more than just a lack of income; it
is a multidimensional issue that encompasses deprivation in
various aspects of life, including access to education, health
care, and basic services. Achieving this goal is crucial for
promoting human dignity, equality, and sustainable
development.

Facts and Statistics:

 According to the United Nations, in 2021, around 9.2% of
the world's population lived in extreme poverty, with an
income of less than $1.90 per day.
 Poverty is a global issue, but it disproportionately affects
certain regions and populations. Sub-Saharan Africa has
the highest poverty rate, with around 40% of the
population living in extreme poverty.
 Children are particularly vulnerable to poverty, with nearly
half of those living in extreme poverty being under 18
years old.

Progress and Challenges:

 Significant progress has been made in reducing poverty
globally. The number of people living in extreme poverty
has decreased by more than half since 1990.
 However, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed some of
these gains, pushing millions more into poverty.
 Challenges to ending poverty include lack of access to
quality education, healthcare, and decent work
opportunities, as well as conflict, climate change, and

GOAL 15: LIFE ON LAND

Brief Description:
The goal of "Life on Land" aims to protect, restore, and
promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably
manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land
degradation, and halt biodiversity loss. Healthy terrestrial
ecosystems are essential for sustaining life on Earth, providing
food, fresh water, and other vital resources, as well as
regulating the climate and supporting biodiversity.

Facts and Statistics:

 Forests cover approximately 31% of the global land area,
but deforestation continues at an alarming rate, with
around 10 million hectares of forest lost annually.
 Around 1 million plant and animal species are currently
threatened with extinction, with human activities being
the primary driver of biodiversity loss.
 Land degradation, caused by factors such as
deforestation, overgrazing, and unsustainable agricultural
practices, affects over 3 billion people globally.
 Protected areas, which are crucial for conserving
biodiversity, currently cover around 15% of the world's
terrestrial and freshwater environments.

Progress and Challenges:

 Progress has been made in establishing protected areas
and raising awareness about the importance of
biodiversity conservation.
 However, challenges persist in addressing deforestation,
land degradation, habitat loss, and the illegal wildlife
trade.
 Achieving this goal requires a comprehensive approach
that involves sustainable land management practices,
protecting and restoring ecosystems, and addressing the
root causes of biodiversity loss.
Personal Reflection:

Terrestrial ecosystems are the foundation of life on Earth,

providing vital resources and supporting the rich tapestry of
biodiversity. It is deeply concerning to witness the rapid loss of
species, deforestation, and land degradation caused by human
activities. Protecting terrestrial ecosystems is essential for
biodiversity and environmental health. I can contribute by
supporting reforestation projects, protecting wildlife habitats,
and advocating for sustainable land use practices.

Actionable Steps:

 Support organizations and initiatives that promote

biodiversity conservation, sustainable forestry, and the
restoration of degraded lands.
 Advocate for policies and regulations that protect
terrestrial ecosystems, combat illegal wildlife trade, and
promote sustainable land management practices.
 Adopt sustainable consumption habits, such as choosing
products from sustainable sources and reducing waste.
 Promote environmental education and raise awareness
about the importance of terrestrial ecosystems and
biodiversity conservation.

GOAL 16: PEACE, JUSTICE,
AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS

Brief Description:
The goal of "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" aims
to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable
development, provide access to justice for all, and build
effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Peace, justice, and strong institutions are fundamental pillars of
sustainable development, as they create an enabling
environment for economic growth, social cohesion, and the
protection of human rights.

Facts and Statistics:

 In 2020, over 1 billion people globally experienced some
form of violence, with homicide being the leading cause of
premature death among young men.
 Approximately 4.2 billion people, or 54% of the global
population, lacked access to justice in 2019.
 Corruption, bribery, and illicit financial flows undermine
economic growth, divert resources from essential services,
and exacerbate poverty and inequality.
 Conflict and insecurity disrupt development efforts,
contributing to forced displacement, human rights
violations, and a lack of access to basic services.

Progress and Challenges:

 Progress has been made in reducing violence and
promoting the rule of law in some regions, as well as
strengthening institutional frameworks and anti-corruption
measures.
 However, challenges persist in addressing ongoing
conflicts, ensuring access to justice for all, combating
corruption and organized crime, and promoting inclusive
and accountable governance.
 Achieving this goal requires a comprehensive approach
that addresses the root causes of violence, promotes
human rights, and strengthens the capacity of institutions
to deliver essential services and uphold the rule of law.
Personal Reflection:
