March 29, 2024

Dear Hanzla,

Thank you for submi ng your applica on to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and wai ng pa ently for your applica on
decision. Applica ons to CMU Qatar increased by more than 17% this year with 2,854 students from 106 na ons applying for
the 115 places we have available. In terms of applica ons vs. space available, more than 24 students applied for every spot at
the university. As a result, the academic quality, level of compe on, and selec vity increased substan ally to record levels.

Due to s ff compe on for our top-ranked programs, we regre ably are not able to offer you admission to Carnegie Mellon at
this me. We would, however, like to offer you a place on our wait list. To receive a spot on our wait lists means that you are
considered among the top 10% of our applicants. The majority of our admi ed and waitlisted students this year are top
students in their schools, and in some cases, their country. To be waitlisted at CMU Qatar means that you are very strong
student and we would like to consider you for admission if space allows.

Students on our wai ng list could receive an update as soon as several days from now, with the latest update coming by late
May.

It is en rely your decision if you would like to remain on the wait list, but we hope you will seriously consider doing so. If you
are admi ed from the waitlist, you will have an opportunity to study at one of the world's leading universi es. As our
significant increase in applica on numbers this year a ests, this is an exci ng me to be a Carnegie Mellon student.

Qatar Founda on offers a world-class need-based aid program for CMU students, which provides grants to meet need
instead of loans (i.e. no repayment). In order to maintain your status on our wai ng list, wait listed students are required to
submit the need-based grant applica on by April 8. The priority deadline for the grant applica on was February 15, but we
are allowing families to submit un l April 8 if they have not already done so.

The simplest way to improve one's chances of being considered from our wai ng list is to submit our need-based grant
applica on. We are not able to consider students from our wait list without the submission of the need-based grant
applica on or a confirma on of zero need. Carnegie Mellon Qatar is need sensi ve from the wai ng list, but when possible,
we will make every effort to admit the best students regardless of need.

For students that have not yet submi ed the grant applica on, more informa on can be found on this financial aid page.

Apart from the grant applica on and submission of the waitlist reply form, no further informa on is needed from the
applicant during the waitlist stage (such as updated transcripts) unless requested by the university.

Once you have thought about this wait list offer, please submit the Wait-list Offer Reply Form by April 8 to let us know if you
would like to stay on the wait list. Students will be admi ed from our wait list between the first week of April and the last
week of May. If you are no longer interested in CMU Qatar, please make space for another student by closing your
Applica on Status via the Wait-list Offer Reply Form.

We very much appreciate the interest you have shown in Carnegie Mellon Qatar and we send our best regards.

Sincerely,
Jarrod Mock
Director of Admission
