what he/she feels, so we should respect it.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Motivation)

I have prepared a mini game which has something to do


with our topic. Our game is entitled “Fact or Opinion
Stand-up, Sit-down Game”. In this game you will Stand
up if it is fact and Sit down if Opinion.
Are you ready? Yes, we are ready and excited teacher!

classified as true because it can be verified on the news,
in the television, newspaper and radio.

Why do you think they are opinion? These are opinions because they are based on your thoughts and
feelings.

That is correct! Please read the meaning of opinion. OPINION is something that refers to people’s judgment
(Post the instructional material) on what they observe and their personal belief towards
something.
Example: My favorite color is pink.
It is an opinion because not all people consider color
pink as their favorite. It is just a personal choice or
preference.

Now let us read the paragraphs. A. Jimin works with animals. In fact, he spends every spare

a lot of time training the animals so that they get along
with people.

B. Jimin believes that being a veterinarian and working


with animals would be a wonderful thing for him to do
when he grows up. He thinks he will become an
excellent veterinary doctor in the future.

GROUP ACTIVIY:
I believe you are now ready for our next activity. This
time you will be working with a group.

You will be divided into 3 groups and each group will


receive an envelope containing your own task. You only
have 7 minutes to finish the task, then we will proceed to
presentation of outputs.

GROUP 1- “Jigsaw Puzzle” Arrange the cut-out picture.


Write one fact sentence and one opinion sentence about
the picture and explain why it is a fact and an opinion.

GROUP 2- Read and understand each sentence.


Determine whether it is fact or opinion. Paste it in the
correct column.

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth.

In my opinion, Facebook is one of the common


apps that can be found everywhere

Why is it important to distinguish Facts and Opinions in If we know how to separate facts from opinions, we will be able
decision making? to make the right decisions and we will also be able to respect
the decisions of others.

That is right!
If we know how to separate facts from opinions, we can
gain a clearer understanding of our thoughts and feelings
and make more informed decisions about our life or the
questions at play in our mind or thoughts.

What is the difference between fact and opinion FACT is a statement that is proven, has evidence, and can be
statements? classified as true and correct.
OPINION is something that refers to people’s judgement
on what they observe and their personal belief towards
something.

Why is it important to distinguish Facts and Opinions in When you can distinguish between facts and opinions, you can
decision making? evaluate information more critically and make more informed
decisions. You can avoid being misled by biased or incomplete
information and gain a more accurate understanding of the world
around you.

H. Evaluating Learning

As you read this story, think about what parts are fact
and what parts are opinion.
It was almost Halloween, and Maria still hadn’t thought of a
costume. Her sister Louisa was going as a hot dog, and Maria
thought that was the best idea ever. Louisa always took Maria
trick-or-treating, and they always had costumes that went
together. But this year, Louisa had been too busy with her
friends to help Maria with a costume. Maria didn’t know what
to do. Maria was looking in some magazines for costume ideas
when her mom asked her to go with her to the grocery store. At
the store, in the Halloween candy aisle, Maria saw a tall,
pointed red hat that gave her a great idea. The hat only cost
two dollars, so Maria’s mom bought it for her. Maria skipped
all the way to the car. She had a costume! She was going to
be…KETCHUP!
