First Topic: Introduction
Trinidad & Tobago is a country in the Caribbean, consisting of two main
islands, the big one is Trinidad, and the small island called Tobago, because is a island,
do not have borders with another country like Brazil and Argentina, but it’s close at the
north of Venezuela and Guyana.
Trinidad it so far, the biggest island, with more population, more land than
Tobago, and Trinidad have the capital of the country, called Port of Spain, lets talk about
more of that beautiful country!
Second Topic: The flag
The flag of Trinidad and Tobago consists of two big reds parts in the corners,
the red represents the sun, the courage and fire, the two small white lines represents
equality and the big black line representing the earth.
The flag has been made by Carlisle Chang (1921-2001), from the city of San
Juan, Trinidad, created after Trinidad and Tobago became independence from United
Kingdom in 1962, he created the Coat of Arms of the country too.
Third Topic: History
Trinidad and Tobago have been discovered by Columbus in 1498, Trinidad was
inhabited by local Indians, but the island in 1592 has been occupied and colonized by
Spanish, it continued under the Spanish rule until 1797, when has been captured by
British Empire, and formally ceded in 1802.
The Tobago history is a bit crazy, because has changed hands 33 times – more
than any other Caribbean islands, Tobago has been occupied first by the Spanish troops,
but the has been raided by the Britain’s, but after that, Netherlands invaded with success
the island, and after the French’s invaded too, but at the end, in 1888, Trinidad and
Tobago has been officially form by the British Empire.
Trinidad and Tobago conquest they independence in 1962, at the same year,
they joined in the British Commonwealth, voluntary association of independent and
equal countries, formed with much of ex-colonies from the United Kingdom, but the
country was still managed by a governor from the UK, and only conquest the full
political independence in 1976, when the Republican Constitution has been created.
Fourth Topic: Geography
The islands of Trinidad and Tobago are pretty small in population, only with
1.3 million people living in the islands, its formed with two islands, Trinidad, the big
one with capital called Port of Spain, because they have been colonized by Spain, the
small one called Tobago, with the largest city of the island is called Scarborough, the
largest city in the country is called Chaguanas, with a urban population of 101,297
The total area of the islands is 5,128 square kilometers, Trinidad and Tobago
terrain is mostly plains with some hills, lower mountains, mangrove swamps and nice
beaches.
La Brea Pitch Lake.
Trinidad and Tobago have too, beautiful natural landscapes, like the La Brea
pitch lake, located on Trinidad’s southwestern coats, is the largest natural deposit of
asphalt in the world.
The archipelago is located in the region of southern Caribbean between the
Caribbean Sea in the North Atlantic Ocean in the north of Venezuela.
Fifth Topic: Currency and economy
The currency of Trinidad and Tobago is the Trinidad and Tobago Dollar (TTD),
One TTD is equivalent a 0,74 Real.
Trinidad and Tobago are a small country but is a high-income country, rich in
natural resources, it has one of the highest GNI (Gross National Income) per capita in
Latin America and the Caribbean (US$17,640 in 2015, Atlas methods). The economy is
largely based on oil and gas production, becoming a major financial center about
petroleum and petrochemical industries in the Caribbean.
Another big important part of the economy is the tourism, the tourists talk saw
about Trinidad and Tobago very well, the people being friendly all the time and helping
you with anything with a smile in they face, and have they beautiful tourist sights, from
the nature to the history.
Sixth Topic: Touristic Sights
Touristic Sights are a important part of the country, because the tourist being a
important part of the economy:
Fort King George
The Fort King George is an example of tourist sight for history, the
construction started in 1779 when Tobago was dominate by the British Empire, but
Tobago has been invaded by France in 1781 and the construction finalized in 1785,
named Fort Castries, passed by the names o Republique and Liberte in 1790 but in
1793, the British recaptured the fort, returned to France in 1801 but in 1803 backed to
British and has been referred to Fort King George after King George III
Maracas Bay
In the north coast of Trinidad, idyllic white sand beach, palm trees and a rolling
turquoise wave, all after a scenic mountain drive through the rain forest, sandy shore,
which are protected by a deep bay, one of the bests beaches in Trinidad and Tobago,
only 45 minutes by car from the capital, Port of Spain, a paradise in Caribbean.
Rio Seco Waterfall
One of the most stunning waterfalls in Trinidad’s, with the water being colored with a
beautiful emerald water, which is ideal for swimming, and being small, can be easy
climb to its top, with only 35 minutes of hiking, makes that waterfall being perfect to
families to visit.
Seventh Topic: Education
The educational system of Trinidad and Tobago is based on the British model, education
is compulsory for seven years, starting at the age of six, primary and secondary school
are free, is a high priority in the country the education so the country invests a lot, the
universities are free too but only at undergraduate level and approved universities, the
primary education have 7 grades and after the students go to more 5 years in secondary
and after may stay more 2 years for a advanced proficiency certificate, all students are
uniformized, it’s a rigid conduct because the education IS a priority
