ASSIGNMENT: Gantt Chart
Format: Gantt Chart uploaded as a PDF to Brightspace
Due Date: Sunday of Week 4 by midnight (Feb. 7th2nd)
(June )
Value: 5% of your final grade
Gantt charts are widely used to keep track of tasks that are in progress, upcoming, ongoing, and completed.
They simplify complex projects and provide a visual reference. Your task is to create a professional Gantt Chart
that provides an overview of this course; map out all of the major assignments over the 14 weeks we have
together.
Your Gantt Chart needs to be thorough and include entries for all of the major assignments (tasks) that make
up this course.
Steps to completion:
1. Read the Gantt Chart Assignment Instructions & Grading Rubric (this document)
2. Look at some of the A+ examples posted on Brightspace
3. Locate all of the major tasks for this class. These can be located either on the CSI (“Learning Schedule”
at the bottom of the CSI), or in the document, Summary of ENL2019T Assignments for Gantt Chart.
4. Review the step-by-step instructions for creating a Gantt Chart in Excel that I posted to Brightspace.
Remember, the instructions are illustrative only, and every year I move assignments around. Your
completed Gantt Chart will NOT look exactly like the examples, or the instructions.
5. Create your Gant Chart (using Excel, or a program of your choice) using this semester’s data.
6. Upload to Brightspace.
Other Requirements:
• Your Gantt Chart should be organized by weeks (14), rather than days
• It should be visually appealing – for full marks, I recommend that it fill at least ¾ of a page (landscape
orientation), that it include a title, and that it have labels for the horizontal and vertical axis. You may
need to copy the Chart from Excel and paste it into Word in order to make it visually appealing. Note:
Be creative! A basic Gantt Chart that looks something like the one produced following the Excel
instructions will only receive part marks. You must go well above and beyond.
• Please use colour
• If you use Excel, please do not submit the data that you used to create the chart, just the chart itself
• PLEASE ensure that your name appears on the document
Submission Instructions:
• You will upload a copy of your Gantt Chart to Brightspace by midnight Sunday, Week 4. Upload to:
Activities – Assignments – Gantt Chart
• Please upload the file as a PDF document. This ensures that the formatting of your chart remains the
same across computers and across versions of Windows, Adobe Reader, or Microsoft office.
Your Gantt Chart will be marked using the rubric below:
