Slips, trips & Falls (STF) Equipment operation
TASK HAZARDS CONTROLS
Operating the municipal  Always Don PPE prior to using the trash compactor,
waste trash compactor including non-slip shoes
 Compactor will not operate with gate open, keep gate
closed when not dumping waste.
 Do not step on inside edge of compactor when
dumping waste, this area is slippery and can result in
falls.
Slips
 Never attempt to enter the trash compactor to retrieve

anything. Contact your supervisor.
Falls
 Before any work or maintenance is done on

equipment, it must be turned off and locked/tagged
Shock
out.
Laceration
Sprains  When dumping light (< 20lbs) waste remove can liner
Strains from waste can and hand dispose.
 When dumping heavier waste (21-40lbs) avoid
stooping, twisting and bending forward; instead use
legs and keep waste can close to your body to avoid
back sprains/strains.
 Keep extremities clear of door closing to avoid
lacerations.
